Greetings Message from UPEACE Rector
Published on: 18.02.2016
The University for Peace is honoured to be one of the official UN partner organization for the online Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition. As the Rector of this institution, it is a real pleasure for me to sit on the panel of judges for such an important initiative. According to The Telegraph, the number of under-35-year-olds starting businesses has risen by more than 70% since 2006, new research has found.
Established as a Treaty Organization with its own Charter in an International Agreement adopted by the General Assembly in resolution 35/55 of 5 December 1980, the University for Peace has the mission:
“to provide humanity with an international institution of higher education for peace and with the aim of promoting among all human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress, in keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations”.
As part of this mission, we are always looking for ways to support future generations in the creation of a more peaceful, fair, and just world for all. The Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition represents a unique opportunity to grow and inspire others with your work and contribute to this world we all aspire to, and so I encourage you to seize the moment and impress the world with a creative and innovative project that proves nothing is impossible with the right motivation.
Part of our DNA as human beings is the power that competition holds over us, as stated by one of the greatest minds of our time, Martin Luther King:
“…if you must use the power of competition, if you must compete with one another: make it as noble as you can by using it [in] noble things. Use it for a fine unselfish thing. Use it for human good.”
I urge you to find innovative solutions and breakthroughs for the benefit of humankind, to work hard at finding creative solutions because they are always more effective, more successful and, most importantly, creative solutions can impact the world!
Good luck and remember that great ideas can come from anyone, anywhere and that the world needs more entrepreneurs like you who can make a change though the power of their ideas.
