How to Promote Your CEC Entry
Published on: 12.10.2021
About three weeks remain from the deadline for votes and comments for the best ideas and projects running for the 2021 Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition. So far, many of you have learned the importance and benefits of promotion in business. As a CEC runner, votes and comments are those elements that will help understand the importance of marketing as a key component of entrepreneurial design. We know that all your ideas and projects are valuable and highly beneficial to the society, economy, and the planet. Also, there is always someone that is waiting for the innovative product or service that you are offering. The point is how to get into that potential market and to possible customers, to inform, educate, and persuade them to become loyal customers.
Thus, this stage of the CEC gives you the chance to prove yourself as a marketer, get your entry noticed, and start boosting your sales and marketing skills. Keep in mind that the entrepreneurial path is not easy.
“You’ve got to be crazy if you want to be an entrepreneur: you’ll have to work 12 to 14 hours a day, there will be no vacations in the near future, and you’ll have little or no private life anymore,” Guenter Faltin says on his book Brains versus Capital.
Thus, learning how to get more visibility and engagement with your startup or business will help you grow. You’ll notice how useful this experience is going to be when you make the first sales of your product or service.
Here are some creative ways to promote your idea or project (without breaking the rules).
Important, please, comply with the Entrepreneurship Campus voting regulation and commenting guideline and ask for help if you notice unusual voting activity to your idea and project.
Back to the competition. When you start promoting your idea or project for votes make sure to:
- Explain how it is benefiting or will benefit your community or a specific category
- Highlight what frustrating problems you are trying to solve and how you are doing it
- Use emotions to make the audience notice, share, and vote for you
- No matter what medium you’re using, create a human voice for your product/service
- Talk about the importance of sustainable entrepreneurship and how it could make the world a better place
Even though not everyone has equal access to an internet connection, there are traditional mediums that are still on-trend.
Print, daily papers, magazines, radio shows, podcasts, television, direct mail, telephone, and SMS are good options if they have an audience and are cost-effective.
Word-of-mouth marketing. It works for big brands, it will work for you too.
When promoting an idea or project, or everything, people reach out to relatives, friends, people at the school or university, local clubs, organizations. Social media will help you get more audience. Start by identifying the most popular social media sites in your region.
The most popular social media around the world based on the number of users are:
- Tik Tok
- Sina Weibo
Next step. Identify what is the best type of content for each of these channels. Most people use social media for fun and relaxing. They chat with friends, look for photos, videos, and interesting content.
- You can create a voice with videos and images
- Cross-post across channels,
- Use your hashtags
- Appeal to influencers by quoting them on your promotions
- Organize contests and giveaways
- Share content from your friends
- Ask for input
- Share helpful information
- Don’t over-post
- Schedule social media posts in advance
- Make friends with other CEC contestants
- Use your entry link in your signatures
Votes and comments are important elements that will help define the CEC 2021 finalists. Read more HERE about the selection of finalists.
What not to do? Cheating for votes and making repeated comments that don’t add value to other contestants’ entries. Think carefully and avoid shady or spammy ways to drives votes, because they can get your entry disqualified from the competition. Stick to the rules and respect fair play.
Remember, the deadline for votes and comments is November 1st.
