Project Details
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
EDEN-GCP has reached over 502,422people. The beneficiaries are 34students of Ojims-college who participate in the Environmental-Sustainability-Club,50people who attended the International-Trash-Conference, at-least 600traders that jointly participate in the weekly-sanitation-exercise which EDEN-GCP joins once a month, over 500,000listeners(across 6 states)from our radio programme and 2,000people reached from a combination of our Facebook and Twitter posts. Our impact is measured by gauging the information we get from our volunteers in the field, feedback from students and school authorities where our Environmental-Sustainability Club is held, feedback from participants of our Town-Hall meetings, reactions from delegates at our International-Trash Conference,Responses from listeners of our radio outreaches and that of our online sensitization campaign. Vivid examples are: A)Impacted 300volunteers from around the world. B)34students who not only talk intelligently about environmental-protection and sustainability but also manufacture with materials from trash. They also impact fellow students, family members and those in their community. C)502people reached for a sensitization picture that was submitted by an Online-Volunteer from East-Africa and another from the Middle-East;the response got on Facebook after our International-Trash-Conference, reaching over 1000people in just 9hours. D)Over 600traders at Mile-One-Market,Diobu,Port-Harcour,Who now know how to do basic recycling like gathering their used cartons and selling it for cash. 5)Interviewing a cross section of participants during our last Town-Hall-meeting held in Diobu,Port-Harcourt; their utterances revealed that our programmes are welcome, impactful and desired for continuity. Overtly,we measure success by; First, decrease in indiscriminate dumping of waste and heighten awareness about the environment, leading to prevention of climate-change and improved health as well as well-being of beneficiaries. Secondly, the performance of the environmental-based businesses that we are incubating in our second phase(2).These will create jobs, empower indigenous -youth and women hence prevent conflict and restiveness. EDEN-GCP was awarded the prestigious Nigeria-America Partnership Award, also known as the Carrington-Youth-Fellowship-Initiative Best Youth Engagement Project Award at the 2015CYFI Fellows Graduation.

Our vision for the future is to become a leading global authority on waste management and the environment. To achieve this, we will continue our sensitization until: indiscriminately dumped waste is significantly reduced and the prevailing mind-set is that "trash is cash and waste is a resource". Currently,we are scaling our Environmental Sustainability Clubs(E.S.C) to five other schools in Port-Harcourt.The school clubs are for sustainability and posterity. We are also setting up EDEN-GCPs entire model in Lagos and Enugu, two other Nigerian cities. Secondly, from our 2016 International-Trash-Conference(ITC),we are implementing phase two of our strategy which is to create teams of 5-10 individuals who are interested in creating businesses based on the environment(i.e the upcoming recycling of used sachet-water business);to mentor them, provide resources such as valuable-networks,monitoring&evaluation, research&development,start-up business skills and access to finance. From these,we intend to groom impressive businesses that are empowering youth and women. For sustainability,we intend to own a small but significant stake in these businesses in form of Equity Stake plus Regressive contribution. Also,Preparation for 2017 ITC is underway. With each edition,ITC becomes a more notable brand that will attract sponsorship. Most importantly,it will give us a platform to attract young passionate people who will be groomed to man successful green enterprises.ITC holds annually. We are also currently applying for grants and building strategic partnerships to enhance our effectiveness and sustainability.Examples are with U.S Department of State,Forward Africa,Stake Holder Democracy Network,Tekapri, LoveFM,CYFI, Zina Plastic etc. We also intend offering consultancy services at a fee. Currently,we are seeking platforms to share practical insights of our work with other youth so that they can duplicate our model and success across the globe(i.e. is our current campaign to speak at SXSW Eco 2016 Conference). Finally,we aim to build capacity and float an integrated recycling plant that will service the south-south/south-east region of Nigeria as none is existent now.
