Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities Goal 13: Climate Action The project has made the children aware and engaged in clearing the societal menace that contributes to ozone layer depletion through capacity building, discussions, exposure to new strategies, trainings and crucial skills. For sustainability the Ambassadors successfully stepped down, disseminated and put into action their experience on the trip through trainings, advocacies, peer education, awareness raising, resources development and increasing the knowledge of peoples civic responsibilities to the strong network of passionate and enthusiastic volunteers, households, children and young people within their communities, thereby strengthening the capacity of young people to participate in community development as global citizens and in turn contributing to SDG 16 on Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels and making more youth attracted to public service through promotion of civil internships and volunteering. This project has help fulfilled SDGs Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 16, where the trees planted by the children helped in reducing flood within their communities which in turn protects the Ozone Layer. This would create good biomass for human and animals. Aside from the tree planting, the children also learnt how to reuse wastes and non-biodegradable materials to also combat ozone layer depletion and simultaneously provide food with these wastes, which has greatly reduce waste materials in their societies.
Sustainability and future plans
Children/Youth inclusion and participation is one of our greatest sustainability measures. We are currently interfacing with community leaders to ensure every house within the community purchase at least one tree seedling thereby increasing our participation scope and making the community own the project, we are also targeting road construction companies to partner with the organization for the supply of our seedlings, for their beautification works. When these trees are matured, the seeds would be collected, sold and also be replicated in other communities. We are also opened to crowdfunding. Our future plans is to replicate this project across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, there by reducing the effect of climate change in our country and the globe systematically, also reusing waste materials to combat climate change and produce food simultaneously.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I am a dogged Active citizen driven with passion and enthusiasm in community development through painstaking sustainable agricultural processes and appropriate technology, I do not give up. My study of Agriculture at graduate and postgraduate levels have contributed to my impact on climate change. My experience on my way to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in February 2015, in which the airline was appreciating its customers for using their service and said on behalf of each passenger on board, a tree would be planted to combat climate change. The trees would be planted in Ethiopia and not Nigeria. This attempt caught my attention and stirred up my desire to do something in the light of that. As soon as I returned to my country, I started massive advocacy and distribution of tree seeds to combat erosion and climate change systematically, which has bagged me awards locally and internationally. I am a Global Shaper of The World Economic Forum focusing on SDG Goal 13 Climate Action, outstanding National Graduate Volunteer of Voluntary Service Overseas, Nigeria, I served as the President of Environmental Protection and Conservation Club, 2013 -2014, during my tenure, I was saddled with the responsibilities of preventing tree falling, bush burning, drain blockage and the sustainability of the project. I innovated the Mobile Kitchen Garden, where I used waste to combat Ozone Layer depletion and produce vegetables simultaneously which bagged me the 2015 HIDDEN ECO-HERO AWARD WINNER, Samsung Engineerings Tunza Eco-generation, Seoul, South Korea. I was listed among the Top 10 Go Green in the City Ambassador of the Schneider Electric, 2016. I was bagged the LIONS AWARDS, THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PARTICIPANT of Obamas Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), West Africa Centre for Cooperate Social Responsibility.
