Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development

Since 2013, we launched the pilot phase of the program through public speaking workshops "From the Book to the Word" at the Francophones Activity Center. Thus, more than 296 Egyptian schoolchildren, 200 university students were initiated and trained on debate and leadership, basing on their reading of books borrowed from the Library. In 2013 we started "The Great Debater", the first debate-shows in Dschang, under CDA’s initiative. Here it is almost 45 young people who participate. The impact of these activities on academic, managerial and entrepreneurial skills of young people is considerable: nearly 92% of participants succeed academically, 73% are currently involved or working on social and community projects, and 44% are now financially autonomous and impact their environment thanks to their sense of leadership. Young girls participating were more dynamic and aware of their responsibility as active agents for the construction for an equal and fair society. Here is the testimony of a young Alexandrian Girl at the end of a workshop: “Art of Speech will change Africa. In public speaking, words are our weapons. We no longer need real weapons to solve our problems. We need peace”. (14 March 2014). Art of speech help them to be aware of Global Citizenship Education, more dynamic and tolerant. Our network is constituted of a hundred of debate and leadership club in school and university milieu with more than 3000 young members. We measure the success of the program through: - The increase of library attendance and reading centers. - Numbers of debate club created, of championship organised - Annual turnout to World School Debate Championship. - Traditional and modern oral practices are publicized at 100 % - The love of reading will be generated and maintained by students at 70% - The level of education in oral practices will rise

Sustainability and future plans

Advertising, viewers’ votes, online gambling and revenues generated by the sale of TV license rights will serve to support partially or entirely the best speakers in their social or personal project and ensure the program sustainability. For the production and broadcasting, our television partner will endorse the media aspect of the project. Each season will be live broadcasting or Video on Demand. Our program will sustain because 41% of the population is aged under 15. Our core target is youth from 12 to 25 from Form V to Upper Sixth classes. And television is the main medium they are connected to. So far, there is NO public speaking program for a youth audience. “Chercher le Mot”, “Le Défi” and “The Brain Box” (CRTV) are the common intellectual program targeting a youth audience. However, they are embracing a traditional status with just an educational objective. They can’t be consider as cultural enterprise. AFRICA GAWLO will be the first cultural enterprise to promote the industrialisation of oral practices through oratory games. During the Period: 2016-2020: We are developing a new concept: “The Speaking House” that will develop the entrepreneurial skills of members while strengthening their business abilities. It is a financial empowerment program of the association which has already trained several young leaders acting at national and international level. In 2025, AFRICA GAWLO will be export in African countries who request it. Our unique model will serve to launch a sub-regional, continental and world championship. In 2013, we will launch “Africa Gawlo Magazine/press” in other African countries. That will increase the auction: more participants and sponsors, more competition, development of the program in several languages, digitalization of the project, granting scholarship for speakers. In the long term, we will occupy a leadership place on the debate-show market with our special

August 27, 2016 14:06

As Binyou previously said, Africa cannot develop without the development of reading and book consumption ! The more we read, the more we are shocked about our situation in the world and the more we engage !
You can read an article about Africa and Book consumption here: https://lafropolitain.wordpress.com/2016/07/21/sans-le-developpement-de-la-lecture-lafrique-ne-se-developpera-pas/

August 27, 2016 14:01

Thank you for your support Cajetan Okeke. Books help us to better understand the world where we are living. There is a lot of interesting things that someone can discover through reading.

August 27, 2016 13:58

Thank you so much dear Salu Yuda Ngedu. We won't give up! For we never give up. Your comment really encourage us to go further. We are waiting to see this project coming through and enlighten the continent.

August 27, 2016 04:09

Dear Olorunfemi Dayo, thank you for your comment which is really constructive. We are in the field of creative economy, which is the second largest and booming economy after digital economy. And our program has a digital value. We are not dealing with minds but with books, the book industry. Secondly, the project will support best innovative ideas or projects coming from finalists for social impact. Once more, thank you for your quiery!

August 26, 2016 11:00

Hi Elongue, you av got great mission to challenge the minds of African youth. However, consider Harward view of Entrepreneurship: the pursuit of opportunities without regard to resources presently controlled. this mean Entrepreneurs are doers and often seek for knowledge when a need arise to solve a problem.
young entrepreneurs also need to build confidence and your project is addressing that through Debate program.
from my experience it appears that, no matter the numbers of entrepreneurship lectures series given to youths, especially those in the University, such lectures cannot make them to become an entrepreneur. meaning that training programs should identify the innate gifts and talents of potential entrepreneurs and help them to establish the relationship between the needs of their community and the social capital ( skills, value, efforts, vision, technique & tools) required to solve existing problems.

is your program currently addressing entrepreneurship following the approach by professor Harward?

August 23, 2016 23:07

Great project if propelled! Don't give up because it can transform society through solutions it carries. I support it by votes and comments.

This is the intellectualization of Africa.

Fomekong

August 17, 2016 06:53

The writer is an artist, the reader too. reading a new page is just like creating opportunities of living a new life: reading is therefore a Craft.

Bon vent Africa Gawlo !!!!!

Thank you for your support. In fact, as Achille said it before, youth are no more reading. They are spending more time on social network more for chatting and posting photo rather than learning. According to the situation of Africa, i think every youth must engage actively to transform its environment. Orality is therefore a way to motivate youth to be interested on books through debate competition.

Don't forget to share with your relative to let them contribute to the success of this initiative.

It's a very innovative program for the promotion of the culture of books in Africa. Thanks for your vote !!!
