Sustainability and future plans
Africa GreenTec is developer, producer and seller of the "Solarcontainer", a mobile plug & play power plant with storage for rural areas that is able to substitute diesel generators. Our corporate entities manage electricity distribution for currently 1,500 people and offer financing solutions for rural villages within our core market in Mali. First capital for foundation of the company, visits, meetings and contracts in Mali as well as for further preliminary work until 2014 was raised by the Founder and increased by prize money. The first Solarcontainer pilot project in Mali was financed by debt crowdfunding within three days in 2015. Further debt-crowdfundings are currently in progress or in preparation. This form of financing shall remain an important element due to its public visibility as well as participation possibility for our social media community and especially for initial projects in newly entered countries. We expect higher amounts of capital raises for business scaling over public loans in short-term. Our main focus is to reach 1,750,000 people within rural households by 2020 (350 Solarcontainer with 37 kWp) which is realizable through our semi-automated production line. We will also license our concept to reseller and operators in countries all over the world which we expect to be the main driver for scale.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I am co-initiator of the project, 26 years old and student at TH Köln within the 2nd semester of the master's programme "Renewable Energy Management" at the institute for technology transfer to the tropics and subtropics. My motivation is bringing renewable electricity as a fundament for human development to the poorest people who are most vulnerable to climate change. Founder and idea owner is Torsten Schreiber who is co-founder of the German energy transition crowdfunding platform bettervest. He is connected to Africa over his family and brought the idea of the Solarcontainer back with him from a travel to Mali where he had a meeting with the Minister of Energy.
