Involving the Secondary Level Students towards the Computer Assisted English Language Learning Proce
Explain your idea in details:
Communicative English Language Teaching is such an idea through which learners of English can be taught interactively with active participation of students in the classrooms and also in the informal settings. Here, it is needed to be mentioned that, in Bangladeshi context, classroom is a formal setting. The researcher doubts that whether delivering knowledge of English language in Communicative Language Teaching approach to all the learners of English in a classroom setting in a context like Bangladesh can be interactive and equally participatory. Since the teacher-student ratio is not a standard ratio (1:30) in Bangladesh in most cases. Hence, the practice of implementing Communicative English Language Teaching approach is a daunting task in the context of Bangladesh where the standard teacher-student ratio does not exist, rather the ratio is almost doubled, and in some cases more than double in all possible levels of education. Therefore, to impart knowledge even with the modern CLT approach of English language teaching is facing a lot of challenges, as ensuring of equal skills distribution of language is hardly possible by the facilitator, especially in a context where the regular student-teacher ratio is higher than the standard size. Therefore, my idea is to develop a certain way through which the modern Communicative Language Teaching approach can be exercised through the teaching of English language with the aid of computer or computer aided and software based technologies and applications towards the Bangladeshi learners, where the student-teacher ratio is higher than the standard one. Here, with this motion, the researcher intends to endeavor a probable experimentation of teaching of English language taking the aid of computer assisted language teaching (CALT) approach with marge to the CLT approach in the secondary level of education in Bangladesh ranging from class six to class ten using affordable available resources.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
If we can involve the secondary level students towards computer assisted or technology assisted language learning processes academically, and, truly can motivate English language learners and teachers towards Communicative English Teaching approach for teaching and learning English language through CALL, then, we, are expected to develop certain approaches of teaching, which can be termed as the mixing of CLT and CALL, and, can be named as a "Mixed Approach", and then, a new form of teaching approach can be introduced towards learning English for the English language learners or L2 learners. It may come out as a new innovation in the academic/teaching arena for the second language learners, if the teaching/learning modules can be developed using technology. For example, computer aided teaching materials for four different skills of a language namely reading, writing, listening and speaking can be developed for classrooms and for self-practices for the secondary level students in the Bangladeshi context or for any other L2 context and can be implemented in the classroom teaching, then, teaching can be done more interactively and can be more participatory and may be less monotonous. For a more clear idea, different mobiles applications/ apps based on teaching materials may be designed varying different levels for students in the second language learning contexts. If this can be done, then, both of the Sustainable Development Goals, the goal nine, which indicates the "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure" and the goal four, which indicates "Quality Education" are impacted. Therefore, within the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals these issues are required to be under consideration, especially for the underdeveloped and for the developing countries, where English language plays very important roles for the economic and infrastructural development of a country.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
My plan is to complete a second Masters of Arts leading to a Ph.D. form a quality foreign University related to the topic of Computer Assisted Language Learning and Teaching approaches following the CLT approach. My first Masters of Arts is from the Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka, where i studied Masters in English Language Teaching (ELT) and developed the basic idea of Language Teaching and its Methods and Approaches. I had my post graduate dissertation on Attitude of Bangladeshi Tertiary Level Students towards Computer Assisted Language Learning through which i have covered four different Universities in Bangladesh regarding the attitude study towards CALL including three Public Universities namely the University of Dhaka, the University of Rajshahi and the University of Khulna and one Private University namely Stamford University Bangladesh. I also went through two case studies of two Engineering background students who are found themselves as the beneficiary of Computer Assisted Language Learning approaches and called themselves as a beneficiary of that very processes. Personally, i am also a beneficiary of the CALL and motivated towards computer technology based language learning and teaching. Now, I am working in the NGO field but, now, directing my career towards education and want to see myself as a Professor in the field of CALL in Bangladeshi context within next 10/12 years. I believe my previous educational institutions will provided me letter of recommendations, if required in future.
