Explain your idea in details:
We aim to produce young entrepreneurs who will create employment rather than educated people looking to be employed. We want to show the youth how to make good use of their resources(land)there is a lot of open land in villages and rural areas, which can be used for farming.Hospitals and clinics are extremely far so if we can train the youth in first-aid they will be able to assist and even save lives.Entrepreneurship is a need in these communities, therefore we want to help the youth to start business which will be profitable and create employment Main objective: To provide educational opportunities to the youth who live in disadvantaged communities and to help them empower their communities. We plan to link up students with opportunities which are only available in the towns and cities such as incubators, workshops, networking events etc Activities and innovative approaches: We will ask to use the community hall or a school classroom once or twice a week where the students can meet up and have class or right tests. There will be free wifi which will exclusively be for the students. The students will be given a tablet which has a linkUpVarsity app where the students can communicate with the lectures and other students. The app will be where they can upload their assignments.(The tablet will be installed for school purposes only and will be regularly monitored).Once a month or every two months a local entrepreneur/farmer/first-aid instructor will come give a talk to help keep the students inspired and give advice. We will use PDF textbooks in which can be loaded onto the tablets. The courses will be between 6-24 months and at the end of the course each student will receive a certificate and promising entrepreneurs and farming students will receive support/investments in their businesses after the course.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
This idea will impact sustainable development by decreasing poverty, unemployment, and crime .This will teach the students to be independent and be the change they have been hoping to see.Our target is to empower first the youth in rural areas of the country and provide opportunity for those youth who wish to have more than just a matric certificate, to link them up with people and opportunities(outside the rural areas) to help them better themselves. The key to the success of this project is to open up their world to new possibilities and to give them hopehope and teach them valuable skills so that they too can conquer the world.Having successful people giving them talks will help keep the students motivated and faithful.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Plans: Develop app and website Get sponsors to sponser the tablets as well as PDF textbooks and the free wifi Seek help from big companies to provide financing and resources Get in touch with local entrepreneurs,farmers,first-aid instructors/nurses Find available space in the community eg.community hall Reach out to local municipality and government as well Meet up with spectators who will be able to provide us with feedback on the students. Enroll students and start the courses
Name: Lorraine Mogale Age: 18 Currently in grade 12 Winner of Allan Gray Blue Helix 2016 entrepreneurship competition. The reason for starting this project is that my family is from a rural area in Limpopo,South Africa.I always see how the youth struggle with oppourtunities, expecially after matric as they can not afford tertiary education/there is not enough space. In villages there are no -minimal oppourtunities to study further. Through this project we want to empower the youth so that they can empower their communities. I am ambitious and have a passion for entrepreneurship.I believe strongly in making a difference and I aspire to inspire.I wish to show young women and men that they too have the power to make something out of their lives despite their challenges and rough backgrounds. All things are possible when you have a vision and God by your side.
