Explain your idea in details:

Rahnumai believes that higher education is a right that must be available to all, regardless of their gender or socioeconomic class. It strives to address the problem of accessibility to higher education for students in remote or underprivileged areas in the form of an online platform. The main objective of this online portal is to save the time and costs students have to bear to travel to access higher education institutes in cities and save them the hassle of waiting in long lines at the bank just to gain access to submit the application fee. This is especially significant for female students who are unable to travel to other cities alone due to social barriers to their mobility. Therefore, Rahnumai aims to contribute in increasing the applicants, especially female applicants, in higher education institutes which may result in higher enrollment. Rahnumais online platform consists of three main components: (1) Online Universal Application Portal, (2) Universities Database and (3) Educational Search Engine. Students sign up to the portal by completing their basic personal and educational profiles. Once signed in, the students select the universities they want to apply to using the Universities Database and Educational Search Engine. There is no limit to the number of applications made to different universities and the portal displays deadline reminders at regular intervals. Once the student has submitted the application on our portal, we complete application process. This involves submitting a hard copy of the students application to the university on behalf of the student. We charge a service fee for this process. In order to gain traction for the online platform, Rahnumai has conducted 11 successful information sessions in 8 institutes, reaching out to more than 2500 students. We have also secured 60 student ambassadors to help us in our efforts to secure applications.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

According to Higher Education Commission (2014-2015), 1.3 million students enroll in higher studies programs every year and this is still one of the lowest enrollment ratios in the Asia region according to UNESCOs report on Higher Education (2014). This creates a huge potential for an initiative that is oriented towards increasing higher education enrolment especially for students from remote areas and females. Our target is to bridge the gap between expected higher education enrollment for the age cohort (17 to 24 years) and the current numbers. Our pilot project indicated that students were willing to enroll but the process was too difficult and there was a lack of information about the variety of universities and programs they could apply for in higher studies. This ultimately affects the diversity of workforce in Pakistan which is largely oriented towards medicine and engineering. For this project, we approached 42 students of 1 academy and catered to their 234 applications for 11 well-known universities. Out of the 42 students, 39 were enrolled in the higher studies programs indicating a success rate of 92%. We charged each applicant at PKR 400 per application and generated PKR 300,000 as the revenue and 100,000 in profit in just 2 weeks, assuring us that our business model was sustainable. The key measures that we use to measure our success are: The number of students enrolled through our program, The number of females enrolled through our program, The profit made per application cycle (to ensure sustainability of program), The diversity of programs our students applied for in universities. Initially we are focusing only on signing up students on the portal but at a later stage, we aim to get universities to register on our portal and use it as part of their official application process.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

Initially we are following a B2C model, focusing only on signing up students on the portal. At a later stage we will build up a B2B model as well which includes getting universities to register on our portal and use it officially as part of their application process. Our revenue stream will be based on the fee we charge to: 1) students for applications processing, 2) universities for applications, marketing (including social media, SEO, seminars and print media), and Web services. Apart from this, we will generate our revenue from advertisements as well. Future sources of funding include charging young professionals for a CV builder incorporated into the website. In 5 years we are aiming to become a one-stop solution for our youth. We envision ourselves as a large scale organization having more than 300 employees, facilitating youth with career counseling, having a universal application portal with an educational search engine and an online educational store. We also see ourselves expanding our application to the job market by including a CV builder. By that time we will have the Big Data to organize research and make analytics based decisions. Through this information, we will try to improve our educational structure and provide consultancy to government and non-government organizations.

Hello fellow passenger,

You might have heard the famous song "What I've done" by Linkin park. The lyrics have been beautifully carved by the late singer Chester Bennington. The song covers the ways in which our so called development has helped only a handful of the upper society members, whereas people are still living in poverty.

We have a great platform here which is urging super brains from around the world to come together and collaborate with their ideas and help make this world a better place to live in. You have been a part of this community and I congratulate you on your effort that you have put in.

Thanks once again and all the best for the future

Comrades,
In this fight for a sustainable future, what we need is innovation; something which is not necessarily new, but which makes us look at things from a different angle.

I believe this is one of the major motives of this community which we are a part of. Taking one step together hand in hand towards our goal is the only way we can achieve it.

So I wish you the very best in this endeavour of yours and hope to see you together in the new tomorrow

Uledi Kimbavala we are making progress in real world . actually the our session start and we are helping our audience till to date we served 5000+ students in all over Pakistan. and Yes you are right we are not making progress on this portal but we will soon.

August 23, 2017 07:50

Seth Thomas Anohwonom, network faculties are bad in most of the areas. As we are first one in market who are perusing this idea. We have lot of challenges in current situation people are not aware of technologies, social, media, emails. But in start we give them multiple options they can sent their profile through email, our ambassadors are in different areas they collect information from them, ,they can contact us on call, and the main thing our online portal. so, it was necessary to give them multiple options. as far as prices are concerns, before our services one visit cost them 2000 PKR per person per application and now its cost them 500 PKR and no need of travelling and wait in long ques.

August 23, 2017 07:39

Hi Katlego Sito, yes we try our best to provide everything at their door step. Majority of our beneficiaries are Female students. We minimized there expenses for one application from 2000 PKR per visit to 500 PKR.

I am deeply sorry if this message bothered you, but everyone on this platform wants to go to the finals with his/her idea and makes all it is possible to get there. Maybe not all the actions are fair. Some participants copies the same meaningless message and paste it to all ideas. I just do marketing. Again, I am sorry if this message disturbed you.
Kindest regards,
Andrei

Wow,

This idea is very innovative and unique, I think I like it.
Education should be made accessible to everyone without discrimination. I just have one question however, considering that you're focusing on improving the living standards of rural community inhabitants, how do you think they can afford your charges and also is there very good network facilities insyalled in these countries.

I wish you all the best,
Seth

Hi
Your idea is indeed the best and a problem solver.students wait on long cues and even end up sleeping there.at the end some end up without acquiring space.thank you for being so innovative.even parents will be free of worrying how their kids will survive at those strange cities and its long cues.I just wish you could try making your charges affordable for everyone to have access on your services.after all make sure everyone knows about your services and that you are here to help.I wish you good luck.
Kind regards

I like your idea and I think it will have a huge impact if it is implemented well. Still, you will need to do a marketing campaign. How will you do it?
I wish you all the best,

Appreciate your kind words Zara. Words of mouth also helping us to setup our base. as people in local areas are not aware with use of internet or new technologies. We are trying to fill this gap too .

I love the idea. When i was about to finish high school i had little awareness about the opportunities that i could pursue. The only way i learned about new opportunities was through word of mouth. So i fully support this idea as it will give students exposure to new opportunities and events.

June 21, 2017 22:01

Thanks Amina , yes it will definitely serve more girls than boys. The queries we are receiving are 70-80 % from female candidates. we are trying to provide them best and quick facilities at their home. till to-date we served more than 4000 students.

This idea really equates taking a plethora of options for higher education to one's door step. I have personal experience where I have seen people not applying in other cities because of lack of awareness and lethargic behaviour of procrastinating or not making up to the dead line.
This idea is really facilitating at very low cost of Rs 400. If one travell to another city for applying in a university that defiantly cost more with additional fatigue!!
fantabulous job Rahnumai

It's a brilliant idea as students needs continues help to choose their career and rahnumai apart from that is also playing a big role in guiding into respective universitiuniversities by providing even minor details. Also, career related programs like UGRAD are also being covered by rahnumai which is a big source of awareness for students who might miss the change. All the best to the team. Great job!

I think this is a great idea. And it should be supported as it is quite helpful for students. Because i know, being a student, it's difficult to apply in different universities with limited sources of awareness.
Rahnumai, which means guidance, the name itself shows how helpful can it be for the students.

Thanks every one for your kind comments. Yes this is not just a startup but story of my life. I did not want my youth face same problems that i faced during my admissions. That`s why i took this initiative. As this is a new thing for our community and majority of our community is not familiar with internet and technologies. So, We are facing challenges. But we continue our journey till end .

June 15, 2017 01:56

Thanks Sheher Bano for appreciation. I posted a comment for you on your idea. We both want students can think interdependently. I think we can improve the things together if we collaborate on same points.

Wonderful idea and nicely executed in the pilot phase! Really hope you can expand this!
I really like how you plan to approach universities to bring them and the students on the same platform. This will really make a change.

This is a great start up idea. I have been a part of career development program as well and feel that this tool can revolutionize the admission system. Many will be introduced to opportunities that they never knew existed. Good luck with this

This is an amazing start-up. The idea, its execution, and the team, they are all amazing people working on promoting the emerging talent of Pakistan. They are working really hard to promote talent in a developing country with loads of potential like Pakistan.

This project addresses a very important problem that prevails in a developing country like Pakistan. Due to lack of proper educational facilities people find it very hard to chose their fields and are usually unaware even of the degree programs that universities in Pakistan offer. I have myself witnessed students who are totally at a loss on what field they should chose for professional education. The situation is even worse in rural areas where students end up opting for engineering or medicine as a career path because of lack of awareness. I believe that this project although a bit ambitious is aiming to solve an important educational problem.

I think this is much needed initiative particularly for the country like Pakistan where there is no proper platform for the counseling of students and most often they opt something against their aptitude or end up quitting studies because of lack of direction

June 10, 2017 05:28

Hi
Your idea is very impressive and will save a lot of trouble of going through all the universities for the submission of forms or for gathering information. You have summarized all the three most important factors into one solution.
Best regards

June 9, 2017 18:25

Hi Shuhra/Koofi, yes you are right their are multiple platforms working world wide. But the difference is that we are working on ground level. We are targeting those who do not have access to resources or information. We provide them complete package from area of interest identification to enrollment in universities and help them to find scholarships. If a student face any restriction in decision making from family, we meet them in person, and provide consultancy to family and the student. When their schools starts, our ambassadors welcome them on campus and help them to complete their on campus formalities. We provide everything at their door step. Till to date we served more than 4000 students and 70% of them were Female. I hope it will clear your concern. If you want more information feel free to comment or drop us some lines at [email protected]

June 9, 2017 15:28

Hi Trinh / Nguyen i am happy to see your interest in sharing. I will send you more details in email, then we can skype. I hope our collaboration will help the both countries to improve the standards of educational structure.

June 8, 2017 06:35

Hello,

All the best for your idea and congratulations for your efforts. I would like to ask a question that don't you think there are various platforms which are providing the similar services so how your platform is different from those.

Best wishes

June 6, 2017 16:19

Hi, I used to have a similar idea which is a website that can collect, review and display information of all available institutes that provide a course, together with the comments and review of student on that course. This can be add to your idea as it is not limit to university. For example, if a person wants to study culinary, he can search for available courses in the area and decide his best fit school. If you are interested in discussing more, feel free to contact me @ [email protected] Regards.
