Explain your idea in details:
Around the world, stigmas exist surrounding students who are forced to cope with learning disabilities. In Canada alone, over 35% of students with learning disabilities haven't completed high school and an additional 30% haven't completed a post-secondary degree. In addition, approximately 98% of students with LD feel that has directly impacted their education and school experience. Furthermore, the majority of parents with children who have learning disabilities feel unprepared and unable to handle their child's state. They also have witnessed or fear that their children have been bullied as a result of their LD and their poor academic performance. Interestingly, 96% of parents feel that proper teaching methods and resources can make up for the poor conditions facing their children. Brain Lab is the most innovative and unique approach to LD learning. By collaborating with specialists, teachers and students, Brain Lab will design adaptive curriculums that engage LD audiences in order to improve their academic standings and school experience. Through the compilation of data, Brain Lab monitors student performance and adjusts to the individual. It also allows teachers, parents and the student to monitor their performance and locate areas of difficulty. Brain Lab also provides students with fixed educational programs that respond to their specific needs, whether that be auditory, memory, attention, etc. By not only teaching but engaging students, Brain Lab provides a sure approach to challenges LD students face. Additionally, Brain Lab hopes to target areas that do not have the resources of specialists in LD so as to improve learning conditions for students in these areas and effectively reduce LD dropout rates. In the future, Brain Lab should have specialists traveling the world, engaging students and breaking down stigmas they face every single day.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Brain Lab is expected to have a major impact in the lives of parents, students and teachers. Targets include being able to provide resource-poor schools and students with a program in order to provide students with learning disabilities the education they deserve. In terms of parents, Brain Lab hopes to relieve them of the stress of having a child who is often bullied and is unable to perform to their fullest by keeping them up to date by serving as a portal to parents, and by actively attempting to break down stigmas and educate their children. For teachers/schools, the goal is simple: provide them with the resources to educate students with LD in order to improve success and so that they can teach students more effectively. Measures of success are numerous but the two greatest include reduced dropout rates for students coping with LD and improved knowledge of LD so that stigmas can be broken down and school experience improved.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Brain Lab is an app and website that's goal is to more properly educate students with learning disabilities across the world and especially in areas without a proper curriculum for these students. One of the greatest things about Brain Lab is that it is unique. Through all research, I haven't found any comparable education platforms that respond specifically to students with learning disabilities. Brain Lab intends on being a cheaper option so as to provide schools of large numbers with a cheap way and incentive to help their students who have LD. Expected sources of finance/capital include individual investors, education/non-for profit organizations and larger schools that are willing to donate money to these initiatives. It will be continuously maintained through a three step process. Firstly, Brain Lab will target school districts that are wealthier and are looking to implement the next big thing for their school initiatives involving students with LD. This will also create access to greater capital and more knowledge surrounding the company. Secondly, Brain Lab will be able to lower its price and start up in school districts with less resource rich schools and that lack programs for students with learning disabilities. Finally, Brain Lab will work hand in hand with non-for profit organizations to break down stigmas and expand the company so as to improve knowledge surrounding Brain Lab and the populations it will reach.
My name is Isaac Cape and I am a high school student, age 15 and leader of my school leadership group operating thought the WE foundation. Throughout my few years, I have always been interested in entrepreneurship, business and innovation since my first company idea "Cape Tech," my childhood dream of a company that pretty much did everything. I live in Québec and have for my entire life. One of the things that has made business so compelling to me is my urge to better the world through innovation. Whether it be large scale or small, I have always sought to simplify something and or find a solution to a problem others overlook, like in Brain Lab's case. I am an incredibly driven and often overly ambitious person. I am certainly a younger entrepreneur but am equally to more motivated than people twice my age. I hope that through Brain Lab and future endeavours I can better the education and eliminate social inequalities. I feel very strongly about things such as education, human rights, healthcare and think that Brain Lab is the future of online education.
