Rainwater Collection System Using Manual Low Cost Bomb

OBJECTIVE: Build a rainwater collection system using manual low cost bomb and make a tutorial to explain to the population how can they build it by themselves. It can be build with low cost materials, which are easy to get it. The components are: gutters, reservoir, filter and the low cost bomb. The filter will help to clean the rainwater and could be build with layers of sand and stones. The bomb is composed by PVC pipes with different sizes and diameters, which form bomb's shape and the retention valves. It will lead the water to the residence or even community. ACTIVITIES: Make a tutorial about how build the system with the bomb. The population could build the system by themselves and adapt to their homes. INNOVATION: The system does not need electricity because we use the manual bomb. And it could lead cheap technology to needy regions, and could improve technological education of population who lives there.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
TARGET: People who lives at needy regions without clean water, or anyone who may also want to deploy this idea in your residence. It will be applied at non-potable water mostly, without chemical treatment. The cleaning will be realize by the filter, only. Water filtered by the system can be used to take a shower, wash clothes and toilet. That represents, on average, half of the consumption of a single-family residence. If this amount of water could be saved, it will make a ruge difference to the family and community. The idea of the tutorial is to facilitate implementation in needy regions. The assessment of success can be measured by the amount of water saved and by the quality of life of the people affected by the idea.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
A partnership with town hall and NGO could be done to deploy the idea in needy regions. The system is cheap and sustainable, and anyone else could pay to get it at residence.
My name is Gabriel Monteiro, Brazilian, and I am a undergraduate at mechanical engineering. It all started at high school, where I was part of a group who made a rainwater collection system to show at science fair. I've always been interested in projects and sustainability, so at college I've participated in projects about technology. In the beginning of 2016, I was introduced to the manual bomb through a teacher, who saw this on a web site. Therefore, I had the idea of put together both things: rainwater collection system and the manual bomb, and deploy it to help people of my country. Them, me and my teacher wrote an article to publish and show the idea. Now, we've been thinking about the implementation. I participate in solar boat project and robotic's team of my college as well. I am also intern at a brazilian research institution. With all these projects and ideas, I hope become a better person and a great engineer.
