Online-Summit: Mindful Leadership & Entrepreneurship
Explain your idea in details:
My idea addresses the problem of many young people struggling to find inner peace, clarity and calmness in a society and environment which is changing with tremendous speed. It aims at establishing mindfulness as a social innovation by making it mainstream for personal development. As I was suffering from continuous psychological stress myself, I absolved a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course and have been working on implementing the mindful mindset ever since into my life. Already since my youth I have been interested in Eastern philosophy and spirituality, especially Buddhist and Hinduist practices. I am fascinated how the practices evolving from the fusion of Eastern and Western philosophies can contribute to improve mental and physical health as well as enhance awareness for nature. The online-summit 'Mindful Leadership and Entrepreneurship' aims at supporting young people aged 16 to 35 to create a social impact in their work environment or communities by educating them about mindfulness practice. It helps young leaders and entrepreneurs (to be) to develop resilience when facing stress, to keep focus while overcoming challenges, to maintain a positive, open mindset and communication style. It also addresses teachers who are able to understand the content in English and can pass on the knowledge to their students in the local language to empower them. The program teaches the seven aspects of mindfulness - acceptance, (self-)trust, beginner's mindset, patience, non-judging, letting go, non-striving/being present - in animated webinars, interviews with experts, work sheets, and an (online-) community called 'Mindful Millenials'. It shows the formal and informal practice of mindfulness and how to integrate those into our daily lives. It trains the participants consciousness about the interaction of thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations. This way, they will learn about the construction of reality and how to deal with difficult emotions.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My idea focuses on the sustainable development goals health and education by making mindfulness mainstream for digital natives through e-learning. The benefits of participating in the mindfulness program include: Getting trained in the beginner's mindset, developing curiosity and thus being more receptive for innovative ideas, stress resilience, non-violent communication, self-confidence & awareness, positive outlook on life and improved overall health (physical/mental). The program is mainly built on MBSR. It is a method for stress management and prevention developed by US-american Buddhist practitioner Jon-Kabat-Zinn which has been applied successfully for 20 years worldwide. It is an approved method used in psychotherapy as well, integrating guided meditations such as body scans, breathing techniques and mindful movement such as Yoga. The online mindfulness program also includes the newest research from neurosciences, combining it with aspects of positive psychology and personality development. As one of the central aspects of mindfulness is the beginners mindset, I would share my knowledge as a beginner of mindfulness practice so that others can relate better and share their experiences in in a safe, non-judgemental space in the community 'Mindful Millenials'. Participants can range from students wanting to establish a female football team at their school to a young urban planner wanting to build a self-sustaining village. The online-summit has a fair price policy and is very sustainable as it enables lifelong learning about mental health care for students and teachers alike. The sessions can be revised as often as necessary. The success of the program can be measured by the total number of participants, testimonials, contributions in the online community and the data collected from 'positivity tests' taken after the participants have completed all the sessions online, examining the improvements in wellbeing. Besides fostering wellbeing, the target is to build the creative confidence of the young participants.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
In a research phase, the pain points, stress factors and challenges of young leaders and entrepreneurs are being identified. That way, a mindfulness training program according to the needs of digital natives and beginners of mindfulness practice can be created. I will be responsible for the social media marketing, community management, content creation, production of webinars and interview videos. I will be getting free research support by my professors at university, but I will need an expert of mindfulness practice for the development of the learning material. I need support from partners for filmmaking and video cutting which I may draw from my co-working network. Another cost factor would be the hosting of the conference on an online-platform which still has to be chosen. The interview partners will be people with mindful leadership styles. The summit follows mindfulness programs in the business context. The innovative approach about my idea is the unique, user-centric compilation of educational materials and channels, making mental health care a priority for millenial leaders, building conscious organisations. The resources needed will be covered by volunteers, donations, investors and sponsors from mindful organisations through a crowdfunding campaign. The crowdfunders will have access to all the conference material for free. Regular purchases will be based on the freemium model. The webinars and some interviews will be available for free, the other materials, such as work sheets and further interviews will be available with a premium account. There will be early bird offers for those purchasing in the first month after the release, then the premium account is offered for a higher price. An option for a scholarship application will be offered. The conference will be mainly promoted on facebook, and on (interview) partner channels. There might be a 'Mindful Meet Up' group in Berlin as an offline support.
I am a 25 year old media scholar absolving my master degree of 'Communication in Social and Economic Contexts' at the Berlin University of the Arts. This entrepreneurial design will be part of my thesis about mindful leadership and entrepreneurship in the upcoming semester. Before, I had been studying at the Bauhaus University Weimar and Utrecht University in the Netherlands as an ERASMUS scholar. My vision is to empower myself and other people to be the best version of themselves and to inspire them to follow an authentic life path based on their values. I am convinced that inner peace, strength and guidance of oneself help to transform other people's lives and societies, building a world full of compassion and empathy for others and the environment. I want to reach that by working in multicultural, interdisciplinary teams to create meaningful, human-centered products and services. My mission is to help individuals and organizations to enhance their social impact by applying design thinking and mindfulness. I strive to be the change that I wish to see in the world. As a creative catalyst and strategist, I developed my skills in storytelling, design thinking and innovation management organising projects that promote sustainability. The university funded my two day hackathon at the intersection of the zero waste movement and virtual reality. Also, in cooperation with the crowdfunding platform startnext and product design students, I designed a barrier-free swing with the intention to change societys perspective on disabilities. Currently I am working as a pro bono consultant for 180 Degrees Consulting to develop strategies for building better relationships between the social enterprise ResQ and its partner restaurants. I could apply my knowledge of intercultural communication, social media and event management, among others, by volunteering for the international student representatives of the Bauhaus University.
