Explain your idea in details:
Objectives of building a crowdfunding platform campaigning for MENA region's ideas/projects that are directly linked to sustainable development include the following: - Reinforce the importance of the fulfillment of the SDGs in the MENA region by opening internet financing opportunities through the platform - Preventing famine in the countries of conflict by creating job opportunities through funding ideas and projects targeting in sustainable development - Reducing poverty in the developing countries and the least developed countries in the MENA region by funding innovative ideas and projects linked directly to sustainable development
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The idea of establishing a crowdfunding platform specialized in financing only sustainable development ideas and projects targeting the region of middle east and north Africa where crowdfunding hasnt been successful like in the United State and Europe will: Raise awareness on sustainable development concept and the 17 goals among the communities of the targeted developing countries, the least developed countries and those countries which have it the worst, which are in conflict. Citizens of these countries are thirsty for getting job and/or fund opportunities and the eligibility of the proposed ideas to the crowdfunding platform will have them read more about sustainable development and working towards it. Reinforce the importance of working towards fulfillment the 17 goals among those who are aware of sustainable development and the 17 goals in those countries. Helps reducing hunger by providing funding opportunity to those left without steady income after the Arab Spring. Pushing the start-ups towards implementing sustainability as a main factor in their innovative ideas Linking entrepreneurship with sustainable development and encouraging ideas from those individuals where negative addressing has been culture that resulted in a barrier for individuals putting their ideas on any table. This will help in building a new generation thinking out of the usual templates used for decades in our education systems in this region. Success will be evaluated by many indicators including but not limited to: - Numbers of proposals linked/targeting to sustainable development - Number of campaigns successfully funded - Number of followers in the professional and social networks - Diversity of innovative ideas proposed - Proposing same idea to be implemented in different locations after adjustment - Significance of humanitarian development in these countries by creating jobs and reducing poverty
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Business model The business model is the Donation-based Crowdfunding model which is based on donors pledging small donations in return for minimum awards, perks, or just to show support for a certain project. The service will be offered in two forms, fixed funding (all-ornothing) and flexible funding based on the proposed idea/project nature. Financing source Its planned to propose the idea to UNDP Yemen for financing. Collaborators - Collaboration with entrepreneurial events and hubs to drive local entrepreneurs and investors towards online Crowdfunding platforms. - Collaboration with UN agencies who call for the SDGs and looking for various levels of partnerships - Sustainability: This platform will be supported by continuous advocating on sustainable development in different countries of the region, close to what we are doing now as volunteers through the Nature Conservation Initiative's Youth network. By spreading awareness on sustainable development and SDGs at schools, universities, NGOs and even in some governmental institutions in different locations, this will promote and encourage more and more engagement from both the Funding-Seekers and the Crowd-Funders to the platform. As a network of sustainable development advocates, we will push towards implementing legal acts that facilitate Crowdfunding and organize its process. By having UN agencies as partners and collaborators, this project will always finds its way in sustainability as UN is the institute which initially called and declared the 2030 agenda and the MDGs before.
I am a 32 years old Yemeni lady living in a country of conflict where millions of my people are suffering the worst humanitarian crisis the country has ever been through. I work as a reservoir engineer, a position that's, in a very reserved Middle Eastern society, always thought to be only for men. I got my master degree in distance learning in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and I'm currently a MBA student in the International Lebanese University in Yemen. My interest in sustainable development began in 2015, same year war started in Yemen when hundred thousands of my people have lost their jobs and found themselves face to face with hunger. As a passionate Yemeni lady, I was selected by UNDP regional bureau in 2015 to participate in the Youth Leadership Program which was held in Amman, Jordan. That program focused in sustainable development and so I found myself appreciate every SDG and thinking day and night on how to help my community to realize the importance of those goals at a country where ignorance level is challengingly high and conflict left people thinking only on how to get the next meal for their children and themselves. This case is similar or worse than whats in Syria, Iraq, Libya and other countries in conflict. As I love my country more than anything, Ive become more determined on the fact that sustainable development is the way for us to survive. Yemen is one of the Least-Developed-Countries, LDC, and not only the conflict what is crushing this fragile country; we have the climate change and all other factors that categorize Yemen as a LDC. With all these challenges, I could build the first network of youth advocating on SDGs in Yemen under the Nature Conservation Initiative I lanched.
