Explain your idea in details:

In Ghana, 51% of the residents in urban centers live in slums and on streets. Container Village, a non-profit venture hopes to provide simple, comfortable and fully equipped housing to individuals living in slums and on streets. While providing accommodation, it further hopes to equip its target market with both entrepreneurial and leadership skills that will support its individuals to earn jobs or using their skills to create jobs for other individuals. OBJECTIVES: Our main objective is to move people out of poverty, create an environmentally friendly environment, equip individuals with leadership and entrepreneurial skills and get and create jobs for our market. Also by re-modelling and recycling shipping containers, we hope to provide housing and secure the future of our target market. ACTIVITES: The activities of container village are divided into two parts; the commercial and the non-profit aspect. The commercial aspect will be to provide a unique and environmentally friendly atmosphere for tourists and guests. Hence income generated from these aspects will be used to maintain and support the non-profit activities of the project. The non-profit aspect will focus on housing individuals from slums and those living on streets for a minimum of two years until they get a job. Moreover, we will provide business and leadership skills in addition to the accommodation. The skills achieved from our Entrepreneurship and leadership programs will allow them to gain both blue and white color jobs within their communities. Currently, Container village is an idea that seeks to grow into reality with the support of the community and the world as a whole. It is focused on growing its partners, funds, market, and operations that would support in improving the livelihoods of individuals living in poverty.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

Focusing on Africa, precisely Ghana, The Container Village will provide homes to people living in slums, streets and those without proper housing. Unlike other social enterprises, Container Village hopes to help its customers regain their status within the community. First and foremost, the biggest development and impact Container Village would have brought within the community is the minimization of poverty through the provision of a shelter under people’s homes. The shelter provided will be more of a roof. This will include, clean water, electricity, and energy. Indeed, there is always an extra benefit that arises from introducing something that fills a basic need. Container village also will be educating the customers with basic business skills. With the acquired skills in leadership and business, our customers will be able to earn money and support their families while securing their futures. Within the four year stay with container Village, we hope that individuals would be able to stand on their feets since there would be some value added to their lives. Securing their future After our consumers’ stay at Container Village, it is our hope that they will be able to fit in the working environment and fend for themselves, put out their best, and also impacting the society they find themselves, with the skills they learned. With an understanding that inequality can be viewed differently, for instance, the difference in cultures, background, family status, gender, and the likes. Container village is focusing its operations on bringing together people with different cultures and backgrounds, share knowledge and experiences that will help them break the cycle of inequality within the society. With the additive of employment, individuals will be able to raise money and support their families hence moving them from a lower class to the working class.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

Customer segmentation- As a social organization, we seek to help individuals living in slums, on street and those without proper housing structures regain their place within the society by trying to reduce poverty and bridge the gap between the poor and the rich. Value proposition-By re-modeling and re-using shipping containers, we hope to provide a 3-4 year housing service for our customers. With the hope to secure their future, we plan to equip them with entrepreneurial and leadership skills that will help them earn jobs within the community. We also hope to employ some of them in our commercial structures. Channels: Container Village will raise awareness of any activity through word of mouth, social media announcements, and fliers. Also, we hope to use social enterprise networks and social procurement directories in case of any other information we need to deliver to our customers. Customer relationship: Since it is our aim to provide homes and building an entrepreneurial community, Container Village will personalize its services, and create a lasting ethical custom within the village. Revenue streams: Most of Container Village's sources of finance will be from donations, fundraising. We further hope to generate our revenue from our commercial businesses. Key resources: Some of our key resources are impact brand, land, shipping containers, capital, stuff, support activities, front and back stage management resources. Key activities: Out key activities are to provide homes and secure the future for our customers through providing leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Key partners: Due to our desires to help our customers get jobs and secure their futures, we hope to make several business ventures our partners and also expand our partners to social enterprises, Recabip, social investors, and donors.

Hello fellow passenger,

You might have heard the famous song "What I've done" by Linkin park. The lyrics have been beautifully carved by the late singer Chester Bennington. The song covers the ways in which our so called development has helped only a handful of the upper society members, whereas people are still living in poverty.

We have a great platform here which is urging super brains from around the world to come together and collaborate with their ideas and help make this world a better place to live in. You have been a part of this community and I congratulate you on your effort that you have put in.

Thanks once again and all the best for the future

Comrades,
In this fight for a sustainable future, what we need is innovation; something which is not necessarily new, but which makes us look at things from a different angle.

I believe this is one of the major motives of this community which we are a part of. Taking one step together hand in hand towards our goal is the only way we can achieve it.

So I wish you the very best in this endeavour of yours and hope to see you together in the new tomorrow

Dear Fellow participant,

You have done well thus far. Only few people will venture relentlessly into the things in which their instincts proposes because sometimes the goal appears too crazy to achieve, so they just retreat.

Actually, someone has said that "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

You may have seen this before but I want to remind you that it's true, only those who are "crazy enough" eventually get results.

Congratulations for been "crazy enough" (seeing beyond normal and following your dreams despite the odds)...

Best wishes,

Dear Maureen,

I have read your idea and think this idea rocks! I think a comfortable home is very important for the well-being of a person and can help a person grows and reach out to improve the condition. I think you can take reference from Singaporean government in their initiative in providing housing for the poors. They have an area that rent out houses for poor citizens in lower price. The community rocks!I have been to the place to do community service and helps them and I believe this idea can be implemented in your idea too, which is have the country's fortunate helping the unfortunate. In this way, we can integrate the idea of compassion, which is important fro the world to be peaceful. If you are free and willing, can you please view and give some constructive comments for my idea? Just press on my name "Chin" and you will see my idea "E-Waste Recycled".
Nice meeting you and your idea is seriously awesome! I believe, together as youth, we can make breakthroughs and lead the world forward. A brighter future, here we come!! Thanks.:)

Hey Team GreenSpace,
I have thought of the challenges that I might face and some of them are limited resources. However, I am working towards the others to see how i can manage them

August 25, 2017 07:13

Hello,
Being a part of India's well known Entrepreneurship Cell of the most prestigious engineering college in India, I have interacted with many startup enthusiasts, have got to know how they think and what are some qualities that set them apart from the ones who are not able to see their idea through. Reading through your idea, I have realised that your idea has that spark which can help it become a successful venture. Coupled with its aim to help the society achieve its goals sustainably, your idea can be something quite helpful for the same.

But before it's implementation, you need to do a "pre-mortem" check on how it can fail. This would prepare you for any uncalled-for circumstances and help you prepare for them accordingly.

Lastly, I would like you to have a look at our idea, GreenSpace, and share your views about the same.

Regards,

Hello Maureen!

Great idea, you have got here. Putting people off the street, coaching them through entrepreneurial and leadership skills and giving them sense of belonging, making them employers of labour. That is so awesome!
I support your idea and I wish you success!

Hi Maureen,
Your project is very impressive and yet demanding too and I like the passion in your idea, you\'re really focused at creating a change and transform your country\'s condition for the good of the poor people living under different circumstances.

I however would like to know how accessible these homes will be to those it's intended for ? And Is it just going to be free?
if its free of cost then how do you plan to get fundings/investors for your project? As i beleive the investors are more interested in the return rate of their investments. And if its something to be paid for, then how do you think these poor inhabitants would pay for them.Do you plan to have a land for this container community or you are just giving containers away as per need.
Hope to hear from you again.
Best regards for your project

I appreciate your concerning about the homeless and the poor people and I am glad that you find this solution. Because it is better to involve also the community, you will need to do a marketing campaign. How do you intend to do it?

Thank you Maureen for sharing this wonderful idea but am still uncertain about somethings.
Am sure this project is targeting the poor who may actually have no homes and if we look at these shipping containers, have u already gazetted a piece of land or perhaps and estate where they are going to be centered? if not, then how are u going to deal with the "container village residences"

In addition, the shipping containers are always metallic in nature, how are u planning to make them safe and comfortable for one to survive in especially during hot weather conditions?
Thank you.

Greetings Maureen,

Its quite an innovative idea to reuse shipping containers to make shelter for poor people.

But do you mind explaining how is there excess shipping containers present if people already live in slums / places that are deprived from resources.

Best of luck in your idea

Hi Maureen,
I like the passion in your idea, you\'re really pointed at creating a change and transform your country\'s condition for the good of the poor. Wonderful!

I however would like to know how accessible these homes will be to those it\'s intended for - the poor? Is it just going to be free or it\'s going to be paid for?

Consider these too, if free, then how do you intend to sustain it? And if o be paid for, then how do you think these so called poor inhabitants would pay for these homes?

Also please what\'s the range of coverage you\'re considering, how many homes per year?

Hope to hear from you soon,
Kind regards,

Seth

Hey Ayubu,

Thank you. I was even thinking of making most of the materials inside my container village recycled. bottles, plastic bags, old clothes. So that i beautify them and use them to make my community unique, environmentally the best :) :)
