The container village
Explain your idea in details:
In Ghana, 51% of the residents in urban centers live in slums and on streets. Container Village, a non-profit venture hopes to provide simple, comfortable and fully equipped housing to individuals living in slums and on streets. While providing accommodation, it further hopes to equip its target market with both entrepreneurial and leadership skills that will support its individuals to earn jobs or using their skills to create jobs for other individuals. OBJECTIVES: Our main objective is to move people out of poverty, create an environmentally friendly environment, equip individuals with leadership and entrepreneurial skills and get and create jobs for our market. Also by re-modelling and recycling shipping containers, we hope to provide housing and secure the future of our target market. ACTIVITES: The activities of container village are divided into two parts; the commercial and the non-profit aspect. The commercial aspect will be to provide a unique and environmentally friendly atmosphere for tourists and guests. Hence income generated from these aspects will be used to maintain and support the non-profit activities of the project. The non-profit aspect will focus on housing individuals from slums and those living on streets for a minimum of two years until they get a job. Moreover, we will provide business and leadership skills in addition to the accommodation. The skills achieved from our Entrepreneurship and leadership programs will allow them to gain both blue and white color jobs within their communities. Currently, Container village is an idea that seeks to grow into reality with the support of the community and the world as a whole. It is focused on growing its partners, funds, market, and operations that would support in improving the livelihoods of individuals living in poverty.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Focusing on Africa, precisely Ghana, The Container Village will provide homes to people living in slums, streets and those without proper housing. Unlike other social enterprises, Container Village hopes to help its customers regain their status within the community. First and foremost, the biggest development and impact Container Village would have brought within the community is the minimization of poverty through the provision of a shelter under people’s homes. The shelter provided will be more of a roof. This will include, clean water, electricity, and energy. Indeed, there is always an extra benefit that arises from introducing something that fills a basic need. Container village also will be educating the customers with basic business skills. With the acquired skills in leadership and business, our customers will be able to earn money and support their families while securing their futures. Within the four year stay with container Village, we hope that individuals would be able to stand on their feets since there would be some value added to their lives. Securing their future After our consumers’ stay at Container Village, it is our hope that they will be able to fit in the working environment and fend for themselves, put out their best, and also impacting the society they find themselves, with the skills they learned. With an understanding that inequality can be viewed differently, for instance, the difference in cultures, background, family status, gender, and the likes. Container village is focusing its operations on bringing together people with different cultures and backgrounds, share knowledge and experiences that will help them break the cycle of inequality within the society. With the additive of employment, individuals will be able to raise money and support their families hence moving them from a lower class to the working class.
