Bloodou - Pakistan's first blood donation mobile application
Explain your idea in details:
The main objective of this application is to provide quick accessibility and availability of blood to the person in need. Regardless of the social and economic status of recipient, one can easily generate a blood request by using our application. Bloodou intends to initiate a marketing campaign to socially aware the society especially students about the importance of donating blood by conducting seminars and presentations at the local universities. The reason we have chosen students as our target market is because their probability of taking out time for the person in need is more than the person who is busy at job or work. As for our operating strategies, Bloodou will only allow the first-time users to generate a free (without any restrictions) blood request. After their first experience, they will be obligated to donate blood to someone in order to be able to generate blood request again for the second time. This is the “give & take” system which will not only encourage people to donate blood but will also make them realize the importance of giving back to the society which ultimately serves the whole purpose of this application.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
According to National Committee for Maternal & Neonatal Health, bleeding associated to the childbirth accounts for about 27% of all maternal deaths in Pakistan; Three quarters of the women die due to blood loss while giving birth to a child; Children suffering from Thalassemia lose their lives due to unavailability of blood and they account for about one in ten of all childhood deaths in Pakistan. Blooddou will be a great source of bridging the gap between the people who have the capacity to donate blood and the people whom lives can be saved by one bag of blood. Our target is to reduce the death toll by introducing this application as soon as possible so that more and more lives can be saved. Our marketing campaign would also help in reducing the misconception people have in their mind that if they give blood, it will create deficiency in their body which will harm them in future.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The model is quite simple and self-sustainable. It consists of the following phases:- Phase 1: On signing up to the application, donors will upload blood details along with their contact information which will be turned into their profile. Phase 2: Server will put that profile into a specific geographical place on map where the donor actually lives. Phase 3: Recipient at the time of need will generate a request into a specific geographical area where he/she requires blood. Phase 4: Closest donors available will receive a notification in which they would be informed about the need of blood. Their capacity of giving blood will also be monitored by the server. Phase 5: Donor will reach the place where the recipient requires the blood donation and at least a life can be saved. As for the financing, Pakistan in known to be one of the most generous countries in the world. We are sure that Bloodou will receive huge sums of donation in response to its contribution to the society. Moreover, funding can be generated by running relevant ads on the application.
Since past three years, I have been participating and helping the needy people in my country through a community service organization that I started on my own. Just like a first drop of rain, I started it on my own but after some period of time, "I" changed into "Us". Me and my team members have been working on education sector, healthcare sector and climate change for quite a few months. On the basis of my leadership skills and community service projects, I was also selected as a Cultural Ambassador of Pakistan at the USA to present my country and perform community service. There is so much motivation around us all the time; when we see people dying due to different diseases; when we see a child being forced to hold a brick rather than a book; when we see trees being cut down and the global warming getting worse every year. But are we willing to look at it with the heart rather than our eyes ? I believe that this is just a start and we have a long way to go. But what matters the most is to have a belief that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves and that we can help the society be taking a step, no matter how late we think we are.
