Explain your project in details:
Womenite is a social initiative, a student based organization that works for the upliftment of society and promotion of feminism. The youth based organization, founded and headed by Mr. Harshit Gupta, is all for the promotion of equal rights and spread of awareness and education among all the sections of the society. Womenite has, time and again, taken steps to promote education about issues like Sexual Harassment, Menstruation, Patriarchal Norms etc. The team which comprises of over 35 students, all belonging from different regions and cultures but studying in New Delhi, reaches out to children and women from backward and remote areas in order to educate them and sensitize them about the issues prevailing in the society. The team has always believed that only education can truly change the future and in order to ensure a better tomorrow, the minds of young children have to be trained so that they know what is right and what is wrong. Womenite works to break the shackles of patriarchy and change the system once and for all. The team teaches in backward communities and holds workshops and seminars in schools and colleges on issues such as Child Sexual Harassment, Taboos related to Menstruation, Female Harassment and Feminism. This makes sure that people get to know the difference between myths and reality, what needs to be done and what is to be avoided. A lot of things that children grasp at a tender age goes with them as they grow up and if they are taught about equality and respect, they will grow up to make a better world for everybody to live in. Womenite makes sure that this happens, works today for a better tomorrow.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Womenite as an initiative advocating for SDG 4 laid by UN to provide quality education that Womenite does to the children and sometimes, women of backward and remote communities. Womenites mission is to create awareness about feminism and its real meaning being quality for all regardless of the sexes, as a part of SDG 5. The campaigns are designed to bring about a change in the future generation by the means of moulding young mind so that they grow up to have right mentalities. This substantially reduces the chances of them being the victims of crimes or the perpetrators of the same. Womenite believes in evaluating its success through the kind of change they have created and the amount of trust that they have won. During the workshops and talk sessions, many young girls decided to confide in the team members and the team ensured that they got justice and a friendly someone to talk to. People called and thanked the team for doing what it does and that kind of love creates the parameters for Womenite. That is how they keep track of what they do and what kind of response it garners. Talking about achievements, so far they have conducted around 50 workshops targeting more than 10,000 students and adults. They have collected more than 10,000 commitments for HeForShe campaign, UN Women solidarity movement for gender equality. The founder was invited at UN Women to present their work and was chosen as the runners-up for Queens Young Leaders award by HH Queen Elizabeth II. Out of 250+ events conducted in 50+ countries on World Merit Day to promote SDGs, they were the co-winners in the whole world. The fact that the organization has achieved so much in such less time makes it stand out from the rest.
Sustainability and future plans
Womenite does fund raising campaigns in order to generate funds for their projects. Mostly all the projects are self-sustainable and do not need much of an investment. Teaching, educating and spreading awareness is a skill and that cannot be measured in pennies. The team has a dedicated lot of students who like to go and teach people in backward and remote areas. The benefit they get is that they believe they are creating a better future. Quality of education matters the most and that is what the team has always aimed at. For other events however, funds are generated through processes that also contribute to the society as a whole. Selling of handicrafts made by women belonging to backward and remote areas was done which benefited both the not-so-financially-independent women and the Womenite team. Other campaigns such as the Raddi Campaign to collect Raddi from households and sell them to dealers thereby promoting Modis mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, were also done in order to raise funds. The team aims to start paid campaigns in schools in the future. This ensures both fund raising and awareness. Harshit would like to launch a community development programme, that is, to work with marginalised and backward communities in order to uplift them and provide them with employment opportunities. They plan to structure all their campaign under the theme of SHE: Sexuality, Health and Education.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
Womenite was founded by Mr. Harshit Gupta. He is an Engineer by Education and Social Entrepreneur by Choice. He is an undergraduate engineering student doing his BTech in IT from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi. He has big dreams to change the world and a firm hand at entrepreneurship skills. He believes that plans were formulated to incorporate technology for some constructive use. He wanted domestic engineers to use technology in order to make life better for everyone. His mother has always been an inspiration for him. For around 21 years he had seen her doing the same monotonous work every day. He always used to wonder how he could do something concrete for all the women who sacrifice their whole lives as daughters, sisters, wives, mothers and friends. He wanted to challenge and change the system of patriarchy for good. This gave birth to Womenite with the aim - Women Empowerment. But after working for a few months and researching about what could be done in a better way, he realized that Women Empowerment is an umbrella under which there are various issues that need to be addressed. This initiative was founded with a purpose of moulding young minds and changing prevailing ideas about the position of women in the society. Something needed to be done to ensure that old and dogmatic ideas do not creep their way into the future generations. Womenite is essentially a foundation stone to a better tomorrow. He has been chosen as the Global Youth Ambassador for A World At School campaign which aims to promote quality education. He was also selected as the runners-up for Queens Young Leader Award by HH Queen Elizabeth II and was invited at UN Womens headquarters at New York to present their work.
