Alexander and Salileji Waya Foundation
Project Details
Explain your project in details:
Alexander and Salileji Waya foundation is a non-profit organisation which has been established with the aim of empowering women and girls that have dropped out of school to go back and complete their education. Our objectives are to empower girls to stay in school. Motivate those girls that dropped out of school due to various reasons such as early pregnancies or marriage, to go back to school and get educated. Provide financial and material support to needy, deserving, hardworking and outstanding students include those who dropped out of school regardless of their physical, mental and social status. We also aim at partnering with organizations doing similar work in order to reduce school dropout rates of girls in this country and also in partnership with such organisations, fight child marriages which is the major contributor to high dropout rates in the country especially in rural areas of Malawi. Our main focus is on government schools especially in the rural areas. With the help of the staff in primary and secondary schools, we will be able to pick out the most outstanding students based on academic performance, hardworking spirit and their enthusiasm to learn.

The Alexander and Salileji Waya aims at promoting girl education regardless of their physical, mental and social status in Malawi. By doing so, we will be increasing the percentage of educated females in Malawi hence ensuring that girls have an equal shot to education as much as boys do. We look forward to seeing in world in which there is Gender equality in education through empowering girls and supporting them to stay in school.

This foundation is a non-profit organisation that aims at helping female students regardless of their physical, mental and social status in government primary and secondary schools. Funds to run this organisation will be sourced through fundraising activities and also monetary donations from members of this foundation. We will also seek financial support from potential donors to fund various activities including community outreach to empower girls and also select potential scholarship recipients and also to use the same money from donors to fund the scholarships. Currently, we are supporting two girls considering this foundation just became operational this year and we are looking forward to increase the number of scholarship recipients next academic year (Begins September, 2017) after sourcing funds through fundraising activities to be conducted from now till when the academic year begins.

My name is Chimwemwe Waya. I was born on 4 February 1995 in Blantyre, Malawi. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences (HONS) obtained from the University of Malawi, College of Medicine. I was born in a family of five girls. Most people thought our parents were unfortunate for having daughters only but they never gave up on us and 4 of us have graduated from university with Bachelors degrees. We are blessed to have parents that educated us, encouraged and supported us all through our education a privilege that most girls out there especially in the rural areas of Malawi do not have. We thought it wise to give back to our community by helping the needy and deserving female students in our government schools by providing them with necessary learning materials and supporting them financially. We are also looking at empowering girls in government schools and helping those who dropped out to go back and get their education back on track. This is all under the Alexander and Salileji Waya Foundation named after our parents for they are the source of our inspiration. As am speaking, the foundation is undergoing registration. I and my 3 sisters, Grace Ngosi, Martha Waya and Lucy Waya, we are the founders of this non-profit organisation.

Hello fellow passenger,
You might have heard the famous song "What I've done" by Linkin park. The lyrics have been beautifully carved by the late singer Chester Bennington. The song covers the ways in which our so called development has helped only a handful of the upper society members, whereas people are still living in poverty.
We have a great platform here which is urging super brains from around the world to come together and collaborate with their ideas and help make this world a better place to live in. You have been a part of this community and I congratulate you on your effort that you have put in.
Thanks once again and all the best for the future

Comrades,
In this fight for a sustainable future, what we need is innovation; something which is not necessarily new, but which makes us look at things from a different angle.
I believe this is one of the major motives of this community which we are a part of. Taking one step together hand in hand towards our goal is the only way we can achieve it.
So I wish you the very best in this endeavour of yours and hope to see you together in the new tomorrow
Regards,
Team GreenSpace

Hello,
Being a part of India's well-known Entrepreneurship Cell of the most prestigious engineering college in India, I have interacted with many startup enthusiasts, have got to know how they think and what are some qualities that set them apart from the ones who are not able to see their idea through. Reading through your idea, I have realised that your idea has that spark which can help it become a successful venture. Coupled with its aim to help the society achieve its goals sustainably, your idea can be something quite helpful for the same.
But before it's implementation, you need to do a "premortem" check on how it can fail. This would prepare you for any uncalled-for circumstances and help you prepare for them accordingly.
Lastly, I would like you to have a look at our idea, GreenSpace, and share your views about the same.
Regards,
Team GreenSpace.

Hello,
I invite you kindly to comment my idea Path To Knowledge. I would be glad to hear your advice. I have written this message after I commented almost all ideas and projects and probably yours too. I am deeply sorry if this message bothered you, but everyone on this platform wants to go to the finals with his/her idea and makes all it is possible to get there. Maybe not all the actions are fair. Some participants copy the same meaningless message and paste it to all ideas. I just do marketing. Again, I am sorry if this message disturbed you.
Kindest regards,
Andrei

There is a large need of your project. Many men, not just women didn't take contact with the basic education and they need someone to help them. In other words, they need your project. I wish you all the best, make this start-up an important world foundation and eradicate illiteracy.
Best regards,
Andrei
Thank you Jacmen Kouakou for the heads up. We are actually working on enumeration and we are hoping to get done by July. Keep on the lookout and will keep you posted. Thank you for the encouraging comment. I appreciate much.
Hi WAYA
Your project is very good. Empowering girls to stay in school and giving chances of better and quality education to them is wonderful. Keep doing the great job. But I suggest you provide the number of girls you would like to empower per year and in 10 years to come. This would help you to have a good metric to evaluate success.
Jacmen K., from Cote d´Ivoire
Thank you Dotun Adewunmi for the encouraging comment. Indeed female illiteracy is really a great challenge across Africa. Females deserve a shot at education as much as males do. There is need to put an end to this and promote a girl child. we hoping to achieve this, it can be done.
Great project! I know female illiteracy across Africa is harrowing. In Nigeria, my country, girls drop out of school before they reach the age of 10, simply because their father's think they're not economically worthy like boys and should instead be groomed to be married later on (usually from 16). This affects at least 40% of school age girls in Northern Nigeria. A project like yours should be glocalized across Africa, every dropout needs to know that they're never to old to try again and learn.
Kudos.
