Explain your project in details:

1 million deaths, 3.2 billion at risk. Why? All because of one, tiny insect, known as a - mosquito. These are not mere numbers, they were people, with lives and families. It was these countless deaths which gave birth to MustQuito. *) To tackle this major issue,we divided our project into three problem areas- 1. Prevention 2. Cure 3. Sensitization RESEARCH- SURVEYS: Both govt and private hospitals, govt schools, villages, and victims of these diseases in order to understand their grievances. The majority of the survey universe belonged to an economically weaker background, and this section was thus the primary focus of our initiative. The principle problem they encountered was that of stagnant water due to poor drainage and the lack of cleanliness. MEETINGS: Doctors, Firms,Schools,Village Heads,District Commissioner and govt officials for further insight, inputs and support. PREVENTION: 1) Effective Drainage Plan and Fumigation conducted with the MCG (Municipal cooperation Gurugram). 2) Cleanliness Rally around the city as well, mobilizing huge support and participation(published in newspapers) 3) A plantation drive of mosquito-repellent plants in the school. 4) Park Adoption for better cleanliness. 5) Donation drive of full-sleeved clothes, and of mosquito-repellents, at Maitri Motors, a prominent petrol pump and at school. CURE: TANGIBLES: 1)Conducted a blood donation drive with the Rotary Club's. 2) Treatment of workers who were suffering from mosquito borne diseases treated at the Civil Hospital. 3) Sahayak Centre (our centre) to introduce the concept of self help to those who'd already fallen victim to diseases, and help them develop skills useful for livelihood and mosquito-borne disease prevention. 4) Negotiating with five prominent firms for minimum financial assistance for healthcare to their local employees, in the event of being infected by a mosquito-borne disease. SENSITIZATION: ACTIVITIES AT : 1) Millennium City Marathon 2) Sakatpur Farms 3)Radio Show 4) Social Media 5) Panel Discussion & many other acts. PRODUCTS MADE: NeemSpray &MosquitoTraps

Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development

Sustainable Development Goal 3 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is devoted to ensure healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. This project not only focused on saving lives through its products, facilities provided and its tangibles but also aimed at reaching out to as many people as we could, to aware them about the rising cases and population of mosquitoes. Living in a country of 1.3 billion where majority of the population is poor, it was very important to make them aware about how dangerous can a mosquito be and how to fight mosquito-borne ailments. This project contributes to Sustainable Development as it is devoted to help it fulfill its Goal 3 by providing aid to not only the fallen victims but others if infected by mosquitoes will affect others too i.e women and children along with helping the public live a healthier life. The project was recognized at 1)PRAMERICA- The Spirit Of Community Awards. The team won a bronze certification and medal for carrying out a project to mark an end to mosquito-borne diseases and make people aware about them. The team was selected among-st 3200 participants who applied in the group category. 2) YOUTHPOWER- Youth Power is an inter school competition which awards the schools who have the most innovative and tangible projects. The team won two awards- 1) Best at Community Outreach 2) First Runners up The project carried out by the team are also published in the schools newspaper and the school magazine which is circulated among different branches of the school. My project has been accepted and implemented in various states of India as well as on international basis. A student was called to volunteer for this project from the United States for a time span of 6 months.

Your profile as an entrepreneur

Me and my friends MUSKAAN SAHOO,NEHRIKA GARG,ARCHITA SHARMA and YAJUR LATH are the founders of project MustQuito. We all are 16 yrs old. We've always loved to see the smile on someone's face when we can help them with their work, assist them when their unwell and be their strong support. We're very attached to this project as we've seen our friends and family lose their lives because of a mosquito and we want to prevent this. We're inspired by this quote of St. Jerome, 'Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best.' Every project requires your attention and time, which was hard to give as we were missing too many classes and our studies were getting neglected by this quote provided us with the determination and great spirit to reach greater heights. We have received awards in various visual arts theme, friendly personality along with many academic achievements.

Hello Everyone!
Lately I have been super busy working for this project.
Thank you all so very much for your feedback!

MustQuito is about combating mosquito borne diseases and what really gave me an inspiration to fight mosquitoes was seeing my friends and family getting affected by it, how my fellow citizens who are poor cannot do anything to protect themselves.
We created a Neem Spray which would not inly prevent mosquitoes but keep your skin healthy. The spray is undergoing the clinical tests and will be available to everyone at minimal prices soon.
We have interacted with almost all the government officials and have been recognised at a national platform too. So far, many domestic people have gotten minimal finanacial assistance from the firms we partnered.
I did read your proposals too and to be honest, I cannot be more proud to be a part of this beautiful journey with such good thinkers and leaders.
I hope all of you are doing extremely well.
Have a good day!

Dear Resiliant Entrepreneur,

It's the end of the competition, I want to urge you to not leave this community without the contact (email especially) of as many other entrepreneurs on this platform. You never can tell what your further conversations may produce.

It's the power of networking and leverage I'm talking about...
Here's my email [email protected] looking forward to hearing from you.

Bye fellow entrepreneur:
As I say good buy, I must say it has been an astounding time reading so many great entries.
I went through the details of your idea and was indeed very impressed. Would you be kind enough to please explain to me as how you got this idea? Equally importantly, who were (are) the people who inspired you for you to come up with this idea.
Take care and all the very best!

August 31, 2017 22:19

Hello fellow passenger,

You might have heard the famous song "What I've done" by Linkin park. The lyrics have been beautifully carved by the late singer Chester Bennington. The song covers the ways in which our so called development has helped only a handful of the upper society members, whereas people are still living in poverty.

We have a great platform here which is urging super brains from around the world to come together and collaborate with their ideas and help make this world a better place to live in. You have been a part of this community and I congratulate you on your effort that you have put in.

Thanks once again and all the best for the future

Cheers from Kabul.

August 31, 2017 20:37

In this fight for a sustainable future, what we need is innovation; something which is not necessarily new, but which makes us look at things from a different angle.

I believe this is one of the major motives of this community which we are a part of. Taking one step together hand in hand towards our goal is the only way we can achieve it.

So I wish you the very best in this endeavour of yours and hope to see you together in the new tomorrow

Dear Fellow participant,

You have done well thus far. Only few people will venture relentlessly into the things in which their instincts proposes because sometimes the goal appears too crazy to achieve, so they just retreat.

Actually, someone has said that "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

You may have seen this before but I want to remind you that it's true, only those who are "crazy enough" eventually get results.

Congratulations for been "crazy enough" (seeing beyond normal and following your dreams despite the odds)...

Best wishes,

Remember it's not over until it's over.
It may be just a few days to the end of the competition but it's not the end of your dreams
There's still a lot you can achieve.
Stay focused.

Being a part of India's well-known Entrepreneurship Cell of the most prestigious engineering college in India, I have interacted with many startup enthusiasts, have got to know how they think and what are some qualities that set them apart from the ones who are not able to see their idea through. Reading through your idea, I have realised that your idea has that spark which can help it become a successful venture. Coupled with its aim to help the society achieve its goals sustainably, your idea can be something quite helpful for the same.

But before it's implementation, you need to do a "premortem" check on how it can fail. This would prepare you for any uncalled-for circumstances and help you prepare for them accordingly.

Lastly, I would like you to have a look at our idea, GreenSpace, and share your views about the same.

Team GreenSpace.

Every time I read this project I feel like we have something to do to rescue children dying just because of mosquito bite. At least your project is doing a life saving job more than just a project. I suggest more partners should be invited to support this project.

August 20, 2017 06:50

MustQuito!!!! It's obvious such a project as this could have come from brilliant minds as yours and your colleagues. Indeed, malaria is a threat too many lives and dreams of people in developing countries. Thus, your project is very needed and apt.

As for your funding sources, kindly engage your search for international donor organizations in this area, I know of the Bill Gates Foundation and a host of others. This will help to give strength to your financial sustainability. May the best keep coming your ways in pursuit of this dream of yours.

You my read up on my idea as well, AfricEnergy. Your comments and insights will be appreciated...see it at;

Thank you.

I invite you kindly to comment my idea Path To Knowledge. I would be glad to hear your advice. I have written this message after I commented almost all ideas and projects and probably yours too. I am deeply sorry if this message bothered you, but everyone on this platform wants to go to the finals with his/her idea and makes all it is possible to get there. Maybe not all the actions are fair. Some participants copy the same meaningless message and paste it to all ideas. I just do marketing. Again, I am sorry if this message disturbed you.

June 14, 2017 05:11

Dear Varunavi
I like your project, creative what you do with those products to eradicate mosquitoes
I have some questions
Did you create the spray?
Is there something like this in the world?
Have you tested or clinically tested how long the anti-mosquito effect lasts?
What are the precautions to use?
Best Regards

June 9, 2017 06:59

Hi Varuvani,

It\'s great that you are engaging closely with the local government, so that you can complement their activites! All the best with your project.

June 8, 2017 07:21

Hi Yoke,
Thank you for your feedback!
The Health Ministry of India looks after mosquito borne diseases. We meet with the government officials to focus more on the areas which have a greater population affected by mosquito borne diseases, for help in the getting surveys conducted and reach out to a greater audience for support. We also get our data from the government sources.

June 6, 2017 19:26

Hello Varunavi , hope everything is okay there .
Mosquito is not only the problem in India , in my country too .We must do something to tackle this challenge .
I would like to know if your project your workplane ; do you plan to collaborate with international organizations in carrying out the project?

May 28, 2017 04:11

Hi Varunavi,

Interesting project! I was just wondering: Which is the government ministry/department in India with an interest in mosquito-related issues? How do you work with them to complement each other's activities?

May 27, 2017 08:06

Hi Ahmed,
Thank you so much for your feedback!
Yes, we do have brochures, story books and posters informing people about mosquito borne diseases. The information printed are in two languages, Hindi and English. We do inform people about how they can reduce the effect of mosquito bites.
The plants which help in repelling mosquitoes are-
1) Marigold- Potted marigolds can be positioned near entrances to your home and any common mosquito entry points, such as open windows. The smell may deter mosquitoes from going past this barrier. While marigolds can be used as border plants around the patio, we do not advise putting marigolds on the patio table since the bright blooms may attract wasps.
2) Catnip- Catnip is a natural mosquito repellent.
3) Citronella- Citronella is the most common natural ingredient used in formulating mosquito repellents. The distinctive citronella aroma is a strong smell which masks other attractants to mosquitoes, making it harder for them to find you.

May 24, 2017 17:52

Greetings MR: Varunavi,

This is great noble project, to save a life is like saving the whole world, that is very good for society because The human resource is the main element in the production wheel
do you make guidance handbooks for the definition of disease and prevention methods ? ~ Prevention is better than cure.
are there specific plants with a pungent smell could keep this mosquito away from the area could be planted ?
Best wishes :)

May 18, 2017 08:31

Hi Mahi,
Thank you!
The work is going great.
We are now open to approx 60 people. A lot of people have given us enrollment forms regarding our centre. The search for more volunteers is still going on.

May 18, 2017 08:29

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your feedback!
We would love to carry out this project on a much larger platform. We would like to negotiate with you over our email ID [email protected]

Mosquito traps are an innovative way to trap mosquitoes. The dark colored top of the container helps in attracting the mosquitoes and as soon as the mosquitoes reach to the top, they die because of the smell of the content present inside. Dark color attracts mosquitoes.

All our tangibles were based on helping the poor and helping them achieve a healthy and more secure life. The awareness activities were conducted for the youth. This included all the students who were studying in Grade 1 to Grade 12 ad beyond that too. These are educated children and individuals, by making them aware we not only got their support but also it made them educate other people who work in their houses for a living along with the poor who live near their houses.

What is the purpose behind conducting activities for children when you can concentrate more on poor people?

May 17, 2017 16:11

Hi Varunavi,
this project seems very apt for fulfillment of sustainable goals. I really respect and appreciate your project. I want to ask if you would like to carry out the similar opportunity in Africa. I am associated with the ActionAid. If you wish, we can negotiate and discuss this project.

Great work!

Namaste dear,
You have done a great job in fighting mosquitoes, it is our time to show you our support.
Best of Luck beta
Very happy with your project and loved to see the pictures. Your video is good too, however I have concern regarding the statistics.
151 deaths by malaria sounds too low, are you sure?

May 15, 2017 15:28

Well thats a good initiative taken by the students in order to make the surroundings free of mosquitoes. And also prevent the infections due to malaria and dengue which are life threatening.
My best wishes to the students for this intiative not only the students but also other people who are actively involved in making society free of mosquitoes.

Hi Tarun,
Thank you for your feedback!
Yes, that's true.
At first, these people lied about their treatment getting done, most of them shut us out saying that they did not believe that they had been infected by a mosquito borne disease. This was mainly because they lacked awareness.
After conducting workshops in villages, taking to the village authorities, these victims got ready to get themselves treated.

May 14, 2017 16:04

Hi Miss Swati,
Wow, that's so good to hear.
Thanks for your feedback!

The early response from people was very light, some mocked us for carrying out a project on mosquitoes and claimed that the world had much bigger problems than fighting mosquitoes. But then, when they saw newspapers filled with articles on mosquito-borne disease and understood that mosquito is one insect which is capable of eradicating the entire human race, they started participating in our initiative and showing us their support.

Hi Vikas,
Yes, as I mentioned that we invited a United States citizen to be a part of our endeavor. She helped us in conducting many activities and also helped us in negotiating with 'UareBlessed'.
However, as we believe in the saying that charity begins at home, we are focusing on preventing mosquitoes from our country first, helping Indian citizens first and then moving out to an international platform.

May 14, 2017 10:06

great project...NICE VIDEO and pictures.
who all have you met during the meetings conducted(GOVT officials?)
hope you achieve success with this
all the best

May 14, 2017 09:50

You and I have something in common. I am a big fan of Mark Cuban too.
Your project involves a serious matter. I read about your fundraising activities.
I did not understand the mosquito basket like what does it contain?
Overall the project work is inspiring.
I am proud of you that you got poor people treated but knowing the Indian poor population, I sense it might have been quite difficult.
Did you face any problem while getting these people treated?

May 14, 2017 09:37

Hi Varunavi,

I read about your project in the pamphlets you distributed to my children in your fest. I later searched your project up on Facebook as well.
It is so nice to see that you are willing to make a change. But, I'm glad that I received a mail regarding you entering this competition.
My son, Haman, was very happy that you uploaded his picture on Facebook and that you gifted him a buzz collection.
Truly an amazing job my dear.

Please answer this question-
What was the response you received from people while you started implementing things?

May 14, 2017 09:20

I loved your project and the ideology behind it.
The main highlights for me were-
The help centre
The help provided through companies
The research work
The awards you got for carrying out this project
and your product.

I have a few questions for you-
1. Did you have any big supporters who helped you by giving some of their stuff?
2. What is the future of this project?

May 14, 2017 09:13

That's good varunavi.
Since you mentioned school activities, and how you have collaborated with the government too,Have you had any international collaborations as well?

May 13, 2017 17:01

Hello Prayank,
Thanks for the feedback!

The firms were contacted through Skype, mails and websites. The firms are small and medium sized enterprises. They have promised to give minimal financial assistance to all the employees.
Age doesn't matter when you wish to bring a change. There are still so many students like me out there who have done a lot for the society.

May 13, 2017 16:55

This is a great project indeed. You're only 16 and contributing so much for the society. I loved the idea of getting people help with financial assistance. How did you contact these firms?
Great Work!
best of luck

Hi Oluwagbenga,

Thank you for your feedback!
Yes, I shall create forum in order to get to know more about problems people have with mosquitoes and also suggest them to use my products.

May 13, 2017 04:17

very nice project, well constructed, and a life saving idea. The project really deserves all the help it can get, because, the fight to eradicate mosquitoes shouldn't be taken lightly.
I will advice you create a forum for more awareness, where you get to meet people, especially those that uses your products, so as to get feedback from them.

Good job!

May 12, 2017 20:28

Hi Vikas,
Thank you for your feedback

Traditional Methods refers to Jhuda which is a rock stone found in Orissa. It has repelling properties and works when when it is burned. Unlike other products, it does not make one cough or create too much smoke in the room where it is placed.
Modern Method implies to Coffee Grounds. when these are released in water, they kill the larvae and mosquitoes present as it has acidic properties.

We conducted around 200 in-school and out-school activities. The activities were related to spreading awareness, finding productive solutions and developing more on this project.
For example, we develop our very own knowledge game which lights a bulb attached to the circuit when a person matches the disease with symptoms and the name of the mosquito which causes that disease.

May 12, 2017 20:15

Namaste Mahi,

Thank you for your feedback!

MustQuito is on various social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and has its own app as well.
We conduct many activities on social media to engage people for different age groups. For example, on Facebook we have the Mathchar( Math and Machar(Mosquito in Hindi)) series going on. This series is about solving math problems by giving them the statistics of the mosquito population or mosquito related numerical problems.
The app provides people with daily quizzes and reminders to put repellents on before going out, Contacting the fumigation department option and fun facts.

Neem Spray acts as a great indoor mosquito-repellent owing to its smell that wards off mosquitoes. As it contains a mixture of lemon oil and eucalyptus oil which is extremely effective in warding off mosquitoes naturally and both have the active component cineole in it carrying antiseptic and insect repellent properties, which makes them effective when applied to the skin. This enables the neem spray to be used on body on body as well.
People found the smell to be quite strong but claimed that the product is effective in repelling mosquitoes.

May 12, 2017 15:33

You have done a wonderful job in collaborating with the government and providing aid to the poor victims.
I loved the video, the concept, your fund activity and the product idea.
However, I have a few questions-
1) What are the traditional and modern approaches?
2) What activities did you conduct in school for awareness?

good luck!!

May 12, 2017 15:28

Hello Varunavi,

You have done a great work by helping people fight mosquito borne diseases. I loved your video and the pictures. It is amazing that you set up a centre and used different methods to fight mosquitoes.

What was your social media engagement?
What did you go with your product? Why did you chose Neem? What was the response from the people who used it?

good initiative

May 11, 2017 13:57

Hi Jacmen,

Thank you for our feedback!

70% of the Indian Population lives in the rural ares and for us, to make them aware about such diseases is our major priority. Most of these people fail to understand the symptoms and keep believing that they are down with fever and hence, they are not able to improve their health conditions.

These 70% people are our major concern and we shall be focusing on them for a period of 8-9 months. Campaign includes ground work in order to know about village ares which more prone to such diseases like Silokhara Village. Several meeting with the government hospitals and officials has already been taken place. The campaign will hopefully help out as many victims as possible.

May 11, 2017 11:01

Hi Varunavi,

You are doing a great job reducing mosquito borne diseases effect in your community. Keep up thIS great work to help poor to quit the boundAries of this plague.

I would suggest you to mention the number/percentage of people you would like to reach out in your prevention and curing campaign. You may also give a period of time for your campaign. This would help you have a good monitoring and evaluation afterwards.
