Explain your project in details:
Currently, strokeAid Foundation raises awareness by advocacy and public education. We will also offer post-habilitation services using the following approaches: - Medical Support in terms of post-hospital rehabilitation services and periodic health screenings - Support Groups to provide the opportunity for survivors and caregivers to network and share experiences. We will use traditional and modern technologies to maximise the reach of our public education. These include social media pages, website, radio and television interviews and endorsements. Also, we will take advantage of the rise in smartphone use to develop and launch an application that will serve as an information resource and also send notifications to users. As we grow, we will extend our services out of Ghana to citizens of neighbouring countries including Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
We are committed to contributing to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. Through our work, we hope to experience a great reduction (about 60% within 5 years of operating) in the incidents of strokes caused as a result of lifestyle choices nation-wide. The target population will be able to identify the signs of a stroke using the F.A.S.T technique and seek immediate medical assistance. Generally, people will be more responsible in their choices regarding alcoholism, smoking and diet. Those who sign on to our health service will receive discounts on gym memberships to keep fit. Caregivers will learn how to facilitate at home exercises and massage techniques in order to care for their loved ones. These will make their lives better by encouraging healthy lifestyles thereby increasing the quality life. Our success will be measured based on our reach/impact. The number of people who receive our message will eventually be reflected in the annual reports by the Ghana Health Service which will be closely monitored. Most importantly, we will know the extent of our reach based on the number of likes and followers on our social media pages, the number of visitors we get on our website and the total number of mobile application downloads monthly.
Sustainability and future plans
We fund all operations from our individual pockets. We are seeking grants from private and corporate donors to expand on our activities. When we are financially sustainable we can extend our reach to all communities in Ghana and hire a Programs Director to manage our activities and oversee our volunteers. In a few more years, I believe we can set up a rehabilitation centre with resident medical staff to assist stroke survivors from all classes. I believe that an individual's financial status should not hinder their access to quality healthcare.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I am a 27-year-old Information Technology professional who is passionate about Health and Wellbeing, STEM Education, Women Empowerment and Gender Equality. In 2016, I was selected as a Queen's Young Leader Highly Commended Runner-up for pitching the strokeAid Foundation idea. This honour afforded me the resources that I needed to articulate my idea and launch it as a non-profit organisation registered under the law of Ghana.
