Pregnant women are more vulnerable to malaria than other adults; they are four times more likely to get malaria and twice as likely to die of it. In Tanzania, malaria is the leading cause of morbidity, accounting for approximately 40% of attendance at outpatient clinics. It is estimated that malaria accounts for 22 percent of under-five and nonmortality and 9 percent of maternal deaths. In Geita district, over 6,420 ITNs have been issued out since 2008. However, malaria is still the leading health concern; in the Geita district; approximately 38% of all visits to outpatient clinics are related to malaria symptoms. The main objective of this project is to evaluate the coverage and consistent use of ITNs among pregnant women in Geita district.

METHODS: Possession and use of ITNs will be assessed using across-sectional design survey method, which will be conducted in five villages within two wards in Geita District. Three hundred and eight four (384) pregnant women will be sampled from the study communities. The data will be analysed using stata software. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests such as Chi-squire will be employed in the analysis of field data.

MY EXPECTED OUTCOMES: To better understand the prevalence of possession and use of bed nets among pregnant women in Geita District, Tanzania. (b) Data analysis method: The demographic background information, the knowledge information, attitude information, practice information and the social economic information of the members of sampled households will be collected. Socio-economic status of the households will be assessed by using Social Economic Wealth Quintile (SEWQ) which it has different scores. Collected data from questionnaires will be coded, then entered and analyzed using STATA version 13. Descriptive such as Chi- Square will be deployed in the analysis of data collected also tables and charts of collected data will be constructed using Microsoft office excels from the field. Analysis of variance one way shall be used to compare the groups and inferential statistics will be performed to establish factors that will be important in influencing variations of outcome variables. Bivarient regression will be used to determine association of the outcome variables with explanatory variables by 95% CI of crude odd ratio and p value. Variables with P-value less than 0.05 in the bivarient regression analysis will be entered to multivariate regressions. Multivariate regression analysis will be used to identify independent associated factors of outcome variables. Finally statistical association will be declared at 95% CI level, adjusted odd ratio and p value less than 0.05
