Explain your project in details:
The organo-microbial solution is an organic solution targeting mainly livestock and urban farmers.with the goal of promoting sustainable organic agriculture. The raw materials for producing the solution are provided for by nature. The main objectives of the organo-microbial solution are to promote sustainable agriculture, improve livestock productivity, promote responsible production and protect the human population from chronic accumulation of non-biodegradable chemicals into their body systems due the consumption of intoxicated animal meat.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
The solution is cheap, eco-friendly, promotes responsible consumption and production and protects both terrestrial and water life from accumulation of non-biodegradable farm chemicals. It as well addresses the challenge of anti-microbial resistance due to excessive use of drugs. Upon bathing swine with the solution, mite infestation drastically reduced on a farming unit. Lean pork was produced in contrast with pork containing high fat content from swine that was not subjected to solution. Generally, there is a net reduction in the overall cost of production.
Sustainability and future plans
Capital investments into the business initially came from personal savings and a prospective investor from an agro-processing company in Gulu,Uganda. The main target market are the livestock farmers in urban and rural areas dealing in semi-intensive and intensive systems of agriculture, while reducing on feed and veterinary drug costs and limiting chances of disease spread, by delivering cost-effective high performance organic product to the farmers with no negative health implications to both the farmer and final consumer. The cost of production of a litre of the solution is 3.00 USD, while the cost of sale of a liter is 12.5 USD, raising a profit margin of 9.5 USD. Marketing is done through farm visit consultancies, exhibitions, farm seminars, and extension services, as well as on commission basis and network marketing. In the near future, I intend to buy advanced machinery like automatic ferments to increase production and as well venture into commercial silage production using the same technology. Long term plans shall include expanding the business across the region and setting up a purely organic restaurant chains trading in organic farm animal products.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
I am a 23 year old Ugandan male agriculturalist, born in the rural areas of Gulu, Uganda. The greater part of my life was spent with my maternal side, with very scarce monetary resources. I grew up very ambitious and determined to change the status quo of my mother's family. This kept me attempting several ventures through my school years, including coaching my classmates for a fee, joining the Young Achiever's Club of the school. During high school vacation, I engaged in the processing and selling of liquid soap, putting into application the chemistry I learnt at high school. My uncle then set me in charge of managing his business that traded in mattresses. He was impressed by the returns. Unfortunately, I set off to university for further education, in agricultural sciences. While in my first year at university, I saved part of my pocket change and used it for purchasing laboratory coats and field gumboots for my course mates. The returns were rewarding. The business was however seasonal. I believe in seizing the opportunity and being resilient and persistent.
