Carpet weaving through engaging women from deprived and rural communities in India
Explain your project in details:
Objective- to engage rural women in carpet weaving and avail opportunity for them to lead dignified life. Activities - We produce carpets, develop new design based on the market demands and train our weavers with new concepts, design and leadership quality to produce quality and qualitative projects. Innovations Approaches - From procuring wool to final product there are 20 series of carpet construction process which are being carried out by us through man power. No machines are used in these process. we engage our best weavers to give idea on developing designs. As it does not demand massive infrastructure, women gets works at home and keeps away women away from forced labor and migration. We focus on improving well-being of communities by providing access to various socio-economic facilities , we do conduct health awareness camps, health check up and eye cataract operation camps.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Impact on more than 10000 families life can be seen through their way of living. Program has changed life of community engaged and other too along with them by participating in helping hand of the carpet weaving. Women are the invisible segment of the rural population. We work with them to enable economic independence working at home and help them assert their rights. Program supports the SGD 1. End poverty and hunger. We empower artisans to escape the sector of poverty and hunger by creating sustainable market-based solutions for them. Women learnt the skill and earning a living wages, with the regular income they are able to pay for their health care and education. Women can use money for their personal expenses which they had never chance to do. Women are free from cultural barriers to employment, they are not supposed to go out and work, they need permission to get out of house for daily wages work. With carpet weaving they dont need to go out. They get work at their homes which is safe and convenient to them. Women have enhanced their confidence by supporting themselves and their families through carpet weaving.
Sustainability and future plans
We are developing new artisans and upgrading the social and entrepreneurial development of existing artisans. We are working very hard on grassroots leadership development. There is an innate leadership capability at the grassroots level. We are focusing much in to capacity building program and their other social up lift programs side by side. We identify inspiring artisan and give them freedom to create their own art, sometimes they come up with a very unique design. We identify such weavers and bring them to corporate office to train them as designer. Company working hard to bring rural youth engage in carpet weaving, designing and in other process. Idea is to develop their leadership qualities and make them responsible for better position in the company. Second we are working hard to establish a marketing team and make our presence in social media and e commerce.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
Preeti Amanan, elder daughter of Mr. Mahesh Choudhary, and director of Saraswatii Global is an energetic entrepreneur who has brought both wide knowledge and technical training vital to the successful operation of Saraswatii. She brings a rich cultural and heritage from her home town and the state Rajasthan she born and brought up. Currently, Ms. Amanan is heading Design department Of Saraswati and involved in Saraswatii day-to-day operations. Ms. Amanan works closely with color houses around the world in order to create the fashion forward designs and color stories that have made Saraswatii a design essential in homes, offices, and buildings around the world. Ms. Amanan has done Diploma in Fashion design and groomed with a Personality Development course from Shepherd International School, Ooty
