Affordable and Clean Energy in Africa
Explain your project in details:
Biogas and Solar Energy are the most natural affordable and clean energies. The main objectives of this project are based on environmental concervation, reduction of electricity bill, Eliminating dependency on charcoal, increase of hygyien in kitchen and increasing households income. -Environmental conservation: By using biogas for cooking and solar water heaters in heating water which can be used in bathrooms, washing kitchen equipments and cooking, the use of firewood and charchoal can be eraducated thus reducing Green gas emissions considerably. - Reduction of electricity bills: Most of people use electricity when cooking food, when heating water in bathrooms and for ironing cloths. Also public lights consume much more electricity, this project also will be the best answer where public lights will be using solar energy. By using biogas and solar water heaters it will be the best solution to reduce electricity bills. -Elimination of dependency on charcoal: Many people in Africa use charcoal and firewood when cooking which destroy environment and cause respiratory diseases. As mentioned above the use biogas and solar water heater will replace any other means of domestic cooking and water heating. -Increase of hygyien in the kitchen: As mentionedd above, biogas and solar energy are the most affordable and clean energies in Africa. As they are fumeless, they always make the kitchen clean as they are. -Increase in households income: People will save money used to pay electricity bills, money used to buy charcoal and money spent at the hospital in case of respiratory diseases. Not only this saving which will increase households income but also people will get jobs during the execution of this project. The innovation in this project will be mainly on the ironning cloths by using biogas instead of electricity. Many people will benefit from this project where we plan to train much more technicians.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Currently we are at the phase of using biogas for cooking and lighting by using solar energy and research of ironning using biogas is ongoing about to be concluded. The use of solar water heaters in partnership with Energy Development Corporation Limited is nowadays on top in Rwanda. The success will be measured the number of users and the income generated by them due to reduction of expenses
Sustainability and future plans
This project will be sustainable due to trainings of technicians who will be assisting users in operations and maintenace. Also the materials to be used will be of high quality as we are doing so; when constructing a biogas plant we use stones, sand, cement and bricks of good quality; for solar water heaters we ensure a life span of more than 25 years.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
This is Valens HABINEZA from Rwanda, born in 1985. I started the entrepreneur business in 2010 after doing a training about biogas construction. In 2012 I attended the Entrepreurs week where I got enough knowledge about management of a small company like ours. Our company is called COGECOMO Ltd. In 2012 till 2015 also I was appoined by the Rwanda National Domestic Biogas Programe to become one of their consultants. In 2016 till now I'm appointed by Rwanda Energy Group as a Biogas Engineer. In March 2017 I was in China for a study tour where I learnt more about solar energy and electricity generation from biogas.
