Grean: The Integrated Waste Management Application
Explain your project in details:
According to data from research published in the journal science in 2015 that Indonesia is the second country that throws most waste into the sea reaches 187.2 million tons. Ministry of Environment and Forestry noted that the average of Indonesia population produces 0.5 to 0.8 Kg waste per person per day. This means there are more than 200,000 tons of waste produced per day. The Central Bureau of Statistics said in 2014, from the total amount of the waste only 8.75% that were then partly used, 10.09% of waste sorted then dumped, and 81.16% the rest is dumped without being sorted first. Waste that are not managed properly not only cause unpleasant odor, but also cause various problems such as disasters and health problems which threaten the survival of humans life as well as other organism such as flora and fauna where takes hundreds of years for nature to decompose certain types of waste such as plastics. Based on the background of the problem, Grean came to solve the problems caused by the existing waste by creating better waste management arrangements within the society. Grean is a startup digital based on sociopreneurship in environmental field especially waste management. Grean has the main aim of providing benefits to the environment, especially in realizing a better waste management in society. Grean has the main product in the form of application named Grean App. In this application everyone who has been registered (called user) can be sell, save, and donation as for scholarship just with garbage. People just need to register through the application, then collect and sort waste in accordance with the type, then come to the waste deposit (Greanspot). Besides that, user can also buy the recycle and eco-friendly product with Greanmart Feature.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Environmental aspect is one of the important aspects that need to be considered in sustainable development. Because the environment has an important role in providing human opportunities to live and survive with the natural resources. No matter how sophisticated technology has been created, humans will always need nature. So that a sustainable, healthy and clean environment becomes an indicator of success in a sustainable development. One way is to realize a better and controlled waste management arrangement from upstream to downstream and Grean is committed to that. Grean not only supports the realization of the 13th goal in sustainable development (SDgs) which is climate action, but also support the realization of the 3rd goal of good health & well-being, the 4th goal of quality for education, the 6th goal of clean water and sanitation and the 14th goal of life below water. Grean has now recycled more than 484 kg of waste that reduces carbon monoxide potential by around 14.52 Kg, in collaboration with a trash bank, making product bags from recycled materials and already has dozens of users. Of course, Grean still have a lot of opportunity to continue to grow and develop. Grean has also successfully awarded scholarships that collected waste donation to two underprivileged elementary students who have outstanding achievements. Currently, Grean is focusing on piloting a Grean application project in Jatinangor, Sumedang. If it has been completed and is successful, we will begin to expand its reach to other regions.
Sustainability and future plans
Sustainability is one of three important indicators which became the foundation for Grean in achieving goals. These three indicators are 1). Benefits; how far to which the impact can solve the problem, appropriate target and proper usage to society and environment, 2). Quality; by always putting forward research and development, and 3). Sustainability; with attention to all aspects of the present and future. To realize that sustainability, Grean implements a concept of social entrepreneurship. This concept is an entrepreneurial concept that has a social impact where profit is not the main orientation but the profit functioning as a mover and expand benefits. Because in this concept the main orientation is the usefulness. In achieving financial independence, the benefits gained from Grean are currently sourced from trash transactions (selling, saving, and donating with garbage) as big as 5% per transaction and sales result from recycled and eco-friendly products. The recycled and eco-friendly products sold come from communities and companies through partnerships and products produced by Grean itself. Future plans of course we will continue to work maximally, improving the quality of our products and services by research and development. Gradually we will also expand the garbage deposit access (Greanspot) to various regions by collaboration among stakeholders (community, trash bank, garbage collector, government and other related institutions) so the other people can be feel the benefits directly and the environment can be immediately saved. We also hope in the future to create a breakthrough other technology products in the field of environment especially waste management.
