Green Haven Investments
Explain your project in details:
Elevator pitch Green Haven Investments(GHI) is an Agro-based enterprise which aims at providing sufficient animal protein required by the human body through pig production. GHI is able to produce pork meat at a lower cost by collecting cassava peels which are usually wasted and utilizing it as one of the components in pig feed production. Crop production in Nigeria is also enhanced by the supply of free dried pig manure to local farmer. Innovative approaches 1)GHI collects cassava peel from local farmers in her community which are usually wasted. These peels when dumped emit high level of carbondioxide which is a green house gas into the atmosphere thereby increasing global warming. The formerly wasted peels are hence utilized as a component of pig feed production hence reducing production cost by 20% making pork even more affordable. 2) GHI started a project called Green farmers project where farmers are supported with free manure and advice on improved methods to ensure higher crop yield. Currently, upto 30 farmers has gained from this project
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Impact so far Qualitative impact: 1) Increased food production in Nigeria through the utilization of pig manure. 2) Healthier people who would be able to carry out their day to day activities with vigour. 3) Reduction of Carbondioxide buildup in the atmosphere which causes global warming. 4) Increase in Nigeria's Gross domestic product (GDP) Quantitative Impact: 1)Several tonnes of cassava peels which would have wasted and increased carbondioxide level in the atmosphere is better utilized in pig production. 2) GHI currently raises 15-20 pigs to table size every month. With an average purchase of 1kg pork by every family, GHI is able to provide 1000 families with pork meat monthly. 3) By 2019, GHI would be able to raise at least 50 pigs to table size and be able to provide pork meat for even more families (about 2500 families). 4) Upto 30 farmers are benefiting from the Green farmer project and in the nearest future more famers would join.
Sustainability and future plans
Growth financing The major source of revenue for GHI is the sale of Pig meat, processed pork to consumers. In the nearest future, i hope to go into biogas production using pig manure and still giving out the effluent for free to be used as liquid manure. The sale of the biogas for cooking would generate more income for GHI. There are other farm such as Jaeet Nigerian Limited, Royal farms, Eugene Investments etc which are chiefly into pig farming. However, GHI stands out by: 1) Giving out of free manure to local farmers which other farms do not engage in. 2) The odour free environment due to the occasional removal of these manures. Most other farms do not have odour free environment because they accumulate these manures till they are sold. 3) Improving the livelihood of farmers through increased crop production achieved by using free pig manure gotten from GHI. 4) Reducing the Carbondioxide level in the atmosphere that could increase from the disposal of cassava peels. 5) The supply of lean pork meat to farmers at affordable price due to reduced cost of production. Two year goals and plans GHI currently houses between 70-80 pigs, make sales of 10-15 pigs monthly and produces over 150kg manure daily. By 2019, GHI would be able to house over 200 pigs, make sales of at least 50 pigs monthly and supply up to 500kg free manure to farmers. In other to achieve this, GHI would do the following: 1) Intensive breeding with quality breedstock to increase the herd. 2) Continous utilization of affordable industrial byproducts such as palm kernel cake, malt, spent grain and cassava from farmers etc to compound nutritious pig feed required for constant growth in other to ensure that the pig attains the desired weight at the expected period. 3) Sales of pig to generate revenue for GHI's expansion.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
My name is Tochi Ifediora, am 23 years old. I graduated from the University of Port-harcourt, Nigeria with a B.Agric in Crop and Soil Science and was also honoured/ awarded best graduating student in Crop production for 2016 set. I have always had a passion for Agriculture and hoped to start with Crop production and then expand to other areas. However due to the financial constraint encountered in land acquisition i had to look for other means to achieve my goal. I embraced a new opportunity to rent a piggery and started my company GHI, i also started Green farmers project as a means to reach out to farmers in other to indirectly contribute to the increase in crop production level in Nigeria. We hope to diversify to other areas as we expand and also discover better ways to support local farmers.
