Explain your project in details:

We are recycling farm waste into wood briquettes which is used as alternative fuel for domestic and industrial heating purpose instead of a continuous depletion of our forest for firewood and charcoal. In 2016 the energy demand for domestic and industrial purpose in Nigeria including the FCT motivated us to intensify our effort to provide solution, we started producing wood briquettes from saw dusts and farm waste, we also designed biomass stove that burns biomass effectively and generates electricity for charging of mobile phones Saw dusts and farm wastes are abundant in Nigeria and were usually burnt in open field or dumped in landfill; we started collecting these wastes and recycles them into wood briquettes though using manual hydraulic press Because briquettes dont burn effectively in open air so we designed a biomass stove that reduce soot and smoke to the barest minimum which makes it safer against the use of firewood that poses health risks on women and children. The biomass stoves also generate electricity for charging of mobile phone and is solving electricity challenge in rural communities including suburbs of urban city around northern part of Nigeria The electricity generation of this innovation is achieved using Peltier module (heat to electricity generator) TEC1-12706, the module start generating electricity at about 50 degree Celsius with a breaking temperature at 130 degree Celsius, it generates 12volts at maximum 6amps of current and is fed into the 12volts Fan that drives air into the stove and a 12v-5v USB car mobile phone charger which enables the stove charge mobile phones effectively. My innovation solves the following problems: 1. Exorbitant cost of fueling for domestic and industrial heating purpose 2. Electricity challenge in rural communities 3. Deforestation 4. Environmental hazards 5. Poverty in rural communities

Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development

The people in our target region sometimes use kerosene for heating and lighting but the price has increased from N100 to about N300/liter in the last 2years with tendencies to increase beyond that as demand increases with population growth. According to a journal, Biomass Consumption in Nigeria: Trends and Policy Issues, the use of bio fuels (bio mass) in Nigeria make up about 87% of energy use (2011 estimate). Therefore, we are determined to change that by providing a safer and inexpensive solution to cooking, lighting and electricity challenges Aside the benefit we offer our customers which are clean and affordable energy we also create a way for smallholder farmers to earn money through farm waste harvesting, briquette making and retailing, meanwhile we also offer community-based free training on briquette making too and we have initiated over 200 farmers in farm waste harvesting and have trained about 50 boys and girls so far in briquette making

Sustainability and future plans

Our stove is sold for about $15 compared to LPG 6kg cylinder and burner of $24 while kerosene stove of similar size cost about $12. Our customers enjoy the benefit of cheap fuel, aside from our briquettes customers can also use any form of biomass (dried biomass such as corncob, corn husk, rice husk, coconut shell etc ) to feed the stove and it will be as effective as ever, our plan is to sell about 300,000 units of this stoves in 2018. Based on recent analysis, Nigeria import 1.25million barrels of kerosene annually worth $175milion dollars ( and about 87% of Nigerian Population depend on bio fuel (biomass; firewood and charcoal) for domestic and industrial heating purpose. With my solution moving from state to state we will eventually cut the use of kerosene, firewood and charcoal reaching a target of about 80,000 households in the next 2year across the country though our expectation is to reach up to 500,000 households and industries within the same stipulated time but we must have achieved that production and supply strength to make it a reality Nigeria has about 26million households (Nigeria Data Portal; and our target is to have a presence in about 10% of that population in 5years

Your profile as an entrepreneur

Kabir Olaosebikan is a social entrepreneur; 22years old, CEO and founder of Craft Planet (aka Creative Planet), the enterprise is located in Kaduna state, Nigeria with the aim of improving lives through waste management and forest conservation. Kabir is a student of Kaduna polytechnic where he is currently studying architecture, his passion for creativity and socio engineering drives him unapologetically towards solving economic or social challenges. In 2016, Kabir saw the magnitude of demand for fuel in northern part of Nigeria as a result of high cost of kerosene, firewood and charcoal when the people had to pay more for fuel than what they spend on food so he decide to improvise by recycling saw dust and farm wastes (biomass) into wood briquettes which serves as alternative fuel, meanwhile, to enable these briquettes burn effectively he designed a biomass stove that also generates electricity for charging of mobile phones Over the years Kabir has been teaching primary and secondary school students in creative arts and entrepreneurship and has acquired series of certifications and recognitions from various organizations such as 2016 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program Award, She Leads Africa certification on Boost Your Business, Ernest & Ibrahim Foundation certification on Fixing Nigeria Agenda, and many more awards underway

Dear Resiliant Entrepreneur,

It's the end of the competition, I want to urge you to not leave this community without the contact (email especially) of as many other entrepreneurs on this platform. You never can tell what your further conversations may produce.

It's the power of networking and leverage I'm talking about...
Here's my email [email protected] looking forward to hearing from you.

August 31, 2017 23:44

Bye fellow entrepreneur:
As I say good buy, I must say it has been an astounding time reading so many great entries.
I went through the details of your idea and was indeed very impressed. Would you be kind enough to please explain to me as how you got this idea? Equally importantly, who were (are) the people who inspired you for you to come up with this idea.
Take care and all the very best!

August 31, 2017 22:29

Hello fellow passenger,

You might have heard the famous song "What I've done" by Linkin park. The lyrics have been beautifully carved by the late singer Chester Bennington. The song covers the ways in which our so called development has helped only a handful of the upper society members, whereas people are still living in poverty.

We have a great platform here which is urging super brains from around the world to come together and collaborate with their ideas and help make this world a better place to live in. You have been a part of this community and I congratulate you on your effort that you have put in.

Thanks once again and all the best for the future
Team GreenSpace

August 31, 2017 21:57

Hello my fellow traveler, How are you feeling as our road ends temporarily?
I have just seen your entry and have been thoroughly impressed by it. Will you be willing to collaborate incase you want to set it up on ground?
I would like to be in touch with you,
Cheers from Kabul.

August 31, 2017 20:55

In this fight for a sustainable future, what we need is innovation; something which is not necessarily new, but which makes us look at things from a different angle.

I believe this is one of the major motives of this community which we are a part of. Taking one step together hand in hand towards our goal is the only way we can achieve it.

So I wish you the very best in this endeavour of yours and hope to see you together in the new tomorrow

Remember it's not over until it's over.
It may be just a few days to the end of the competition but it's not the end of your dreams
There's still a lot you can achieve.
Stay focused.

August 30, 2017 12:05

Dear Fellow participant,

You have done well thus far. Only few people will venture relentlessly into the things in which their instincts proposes because sometimes the goal appears too crazy to achieve, so they just retreat.

Actually, someone has said that "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

You may have seen this before but I want to remind you that it's true, only those who are "crazy enough" eventually get results.

Congratulations for been "crazy enough" (seeing beyond normal and following your dreams despite the odds)...

Best wishes,

Being a part of India's well-known Entrepreneurship Cell of the most prestigious engineering college in India, I have interacted with many startup enthusiasts, have got to know how they think and what are some qualities that set them apart from the ones who are not able to see their idea through. Reading through your idea, I have realised that your idea has that spark which can help it become a successful venture. Coupled with its aim to help the society achieve its goals sustainably, your idea can be something quite helpful for the same.

But before it's implementation, you need to do a "premortem" check on how it can fail. This would prepare you for any uncalled-for circumstances and help you prepare for them accordingly.

Lastly, I would like you to have a look at our idea, GreenSpace, and share your views about the same.

Team GreenSpace.

I invite you kindly to comment my idea Path To Knowledge. I would be glad to hear your advice. I have written this message after I commented almost all ideas and projects and probably yours too. I am deeply sorry if this message bothered you, but everyone on this platform wants to go to the finals with his/her idea and makes all it is possible to get there. Maybe not all the actions are fair. Some participants copy the same meaningless message and paste it to all ideas. I just do marketing. Again, I am sorry if this message disturbed you.
