Dear Sheher,

It's been a lot of fun learning about everyone's innovative ideas and projects in this competition. I'm so glad I've been introduced to this community with great minds like yours. I really love your idea to shift the innovation process forward through changing the knowledge acquisition from parents to their children. The improved guidance from the parents, especially in regard to options in professional fields, will help the youth develop and strategize how they can succeed in life. This is an important undertaking, and I wish you all the success in the world.

Meanwhile, thank you for your positive comments and your support in this competition, our journey. It's been an honor to be amongst yourself and some of the most proactive and innovative people on the planet! Hello Emmanuel,

I'm in total agreement that winning and losing in this competition doesn't determine the ultimate success of our ideas and projects. What's important is that our projects help our communities and improve the world in which we live. Then, we will all be winners.

Dear Aviva,

Thank you for your kind words and wonderful comments! I was inspired in the design academy to come up with a sustainable project, and was really happy to find the opportunity at the aquatic park to solve the problem of eutrophication. I hope to be able to implement the project in the future if the research and the engineering turns out well for the project. It would mean a lot to see that human development can coexist with the natural environment, and animals and people won't suffer from negative consequences.

Thank you much!

Hello fellow passenger,

You might have heard the famous song "What I've done" by Linkin park. The lyrics have been beautifully carved by the late singer Chester Bennington. The song covers the ways in which our so called development has helped only a handful of the upper society members, whereas people are still living in poverty.

We have a great platform here which is urging super brains from around the world to come together and collaborate with their ideas and help make this world a better place to live in. You have been a part of this community and I congratulate you on your effort that you have put in.

Thanks once again and all the best for the future

As the YCEC draws closest to close take this from me, Those who win a competition are not always the best but they are the ones that put extra effort and got that little push they desired. On the other hand those that doesn't win are not always the worst either most times they always go ahead to become the better ones on the long run. So selected or not never give up on your idea or project, try as much hard to make it a reality. Congratulations in advance. Changing the world begins with you. CHEERS.

Comrades,
In this fight for a sustainable future, what we need is innovation; something which is not necessarily new, but which makes us look at things from a different angle.

I believe this is one of the major motives of this community which we are a part of. Taking one step together hand in hand towards our goal is the only way we can achieve it.

So I wish you the very best in this endeavour of yours and hope to see you together in the new tomorrow

Dear Fellow participant,

You have done well thus far. Only few people will venture relentlessly into the things in which their instincts proposes because sometimes the goal appears too crazy to achieve, so they just retreat.

Actually, someone has said that "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

You may have seen this before but I want to remind you that it's true, only those who are "crazy enough" eventually get results.

Congratulations for been "crazy enough" (seeing beyond normal and following your dreams despite the odds)...

Best wishes,
Seth

Great project, Chloe! These kinds of solutions are much needed in today\'s world. My hope is that others recognize the potential of this contribution to our greater ecosystem and that this project continues to move forward regardless of what happens in the competition. All the best!

August 29, 2017 12:45

If i had the chance I would say let all the projects be in the finals but my advice is, beyond YCEC continue to develop your project and make the world a better place through what you have. For me Money is synonymous with IMPACT. The more people you impacted with this project the more money you have and more better he world becomes.
God bless you. Thanks for voting for my idea as I did voted for you too.
CHEERS.

August 29, 2017 09:36

Dear Shuhra,

I am truly honored by your interest to implement my Algae Energy Pavilion in your community. I have not actually thought about ideal countries or locations for first implementations. The preliminary choices may be based on a study to find where there's the most urgent need, ideal environment, and most efficient process for implementation. I know this much, if Afghanistan turns out to be one of those countries ideal for implementation (once it's ready), you will get a call from me.

Meanwhile, best wishes in your quest to bring knowledge to those areas that have little access to educational resources. I wish you the most tremendous success in your endeavor and in life.

Hi Ajith,

We have changed this world so much to fit our civilization, but thus far, our innovation have served our selfish needs. From here on out, we should look to change our civilization to harmonize with this world so that our existence and development can improve our natural world while we thrive within it.

This is a community that will change the world, and we'll keep moving forward and cheer each other on.

Thank you much!

Hello Team GreenSpace,

I really appreciate your words of encouragement as well as your advice. I believe I share in the enthusiasm that all of us in this community has in wanting to help the world with our creativity. I'm really glad you can see that quality in my project description.

I understand that the project is a massive undertaking, not only in terms of its size, but also the due diligence in research and testing prior to implementation. The pre mortem check is definitely a part of this process.

I also wish you success for your project.

Thank you much!
Chloe

August 29, 2017 08:59

Hi Zeba,

Thank you for your positive comments! The human interaction element was important since the design was originally a project specifically assigned to an aquatic park, but it works in general since we want to help clean up environments whether they are in population centers or not. I also want to emphasize that man-made projects can be a part of the Earth's environment, and contribute to its health.

Thank you much!
Chloe

Good wishes to you.

Hi Andrei,

With my late start to this competition, I especially have to thank you for your technical advice about making comments. Prior to that, I had wasted a lot of time writing comments that disappeared after submittal, so thank you very much!

Meanwhile, I also want to thank you for your support during this process. This is a community that will change the world, and we'll keep moving forward and cheer each other on.

Congratulations!!!!!!!
Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable. So change this world with your idea.
Wishing you all the success and hope you will be there in the finals.

Hello,
Being a part of India's well-known Entrepreneurship Cell of the most prestigious engineering college in India, I have interacted with many startup enthusiasts, have got to know how they think and what are some qualities that set them apart from the ones who are not able to see their idea through. Reading through your idea, I have realised that your idea has that spark which can help it become a successful venture. Coupled with its aim to help the society achieve its goals sustainably, your idea can be something quite helpful for the same.

But before it's implementation, you need to do a "premortem" check on how it can fail. This would prepare you for any uncalled-for circumstances and help you prepare for them accordingly.

Lastly, I would like you to have a look at our idea, GreenSpace, and share your views about the same.

Regards,
Team GreenSpace.

August 28, 2017 18:40

Hi Chloe,

This sounds like an incredible project and has the ability to make a sustainable impact. I think that the fact that this can be integrated into a park makes it more practical. Best of luck!

Hello Chili,

Thank you very much for your positive comments! I tried to mimic the pavilion structure and functions with the tree so it could work well in locations where people may interact with it. So having good aesthetics while balancing production and recreational functions were important considerations for the design. I'm so glad you like it!

Thank you much!

Hi Lincoln,

Thank you so much for your encouragement and positive comments! I have learned to be more environmentally conscious and think more about sustainable practices as my education has provided me with good knowledge and information. I believe everyone should do their part in reversing negative climate effects, and the youth should be able to contribute given the right education and opportunities.

So thank you very much!

Hi Newton,

Experiencing California's severe drought brought even more meaning to the water problem. From my observations, eutrophication becomes an even bigger problem as water evaporates. The algae blooms take up more of the water's surface, and create hypoxia which kills plants and animals that live below the surface. With climate change on the rise, eutrophication may become more prevalent. I hope the pavilion will be a useful solution to the problem.

Thank you for your kind words!

Hi Chloe, reading about your project makes me really proud that young people today can come up with great ideas and achieve great things! The pavilion looks beautiful, and should become a landmark attraction wherever you build it. The biomimicry concept from a living tree is very innovative, and it's magnificent that it even mimics its functions.

Very cool! Keep going, keep innovating. I want to see more from you in the future.

Wow Chloe! I'm really proud of you for coming up with such a creative idea! Fresh water is an extremely precious resource since life and civilizations flourish around it. It's so sad to see good water resources spoiled with heavy human development. This pavilion not only helps to clean up water, but it also aesthetically pleasing, and allows for human interaction. Good for you! Hope you can implement it soon.

Hello Emmanuel,

I'm so glad I was able to answer your questions, and even happier that it might have contributed to your local community. I remember from research for the vertical farm article that Japanese technicians were meeting with universities of Bangladesh to study the feasibility of vertical farms in Bangladesh. The key problem is the high up front initial cost of building an enclosed vertical farm. So if you want to initiate vertical farming in Ghana, that may also be an issue you'd need to address. But I would be extremely excited if vertical farming could become a solution to Ghana's most prevalent problems. So best of luck if you could initiate such a project, and best of luck for your current project as well.

Finally, thank you for your positive comments. It means a lot to me that my answers satisfied your questions, and I'm encouraged by your kind words.

Thank you!

Hello Chloe,
I should applaud you for what you are doing. Your algea pavilion energy is one of a kind.
Do you know why am asking a lot of questions. The climate change conference I attended recently showed that agriculture expansion alone contribute to 50% of biodiversity loss in Ghana, now it bothered me a lot because we all know the importance of agriculture. But if the figures are true, then its causing more harm than good. Now I was thinking on an innovative ways to curtail the challenge. You just gave me an idea of vertical farming, which is very interesting. Your project is very great and will always remember it.

Hello Emmanuel,

Thank you for your further inquiry! You are correct in sharing the fact that using algae to produce biofuel is already in existence, in fact, many of those researches and companies are my inspiration to create the pavilion. In my other comments, I mentioned that I stand on the shoulders of giants, so I claim no invention nor discovery. At my age, I am also not sure how much my concept or idea is considered innovative. But in studying the Campus Entrepreneurship Online Training lessons, I am reassured by Chapter 4 "Discover Potential in What Exists Already", and Chapter 6 "Recombining What Already Exists".

Couple of years ago, I interned in an environmental lab at University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering to study an innovative approach to produce biogas and electrical energy in wastewater treatment using anaerobic processes. Although using anaerobic fuel cells to produce electricity and biogas is not novel, combining it with wastewater treatment could capture the potential of the approach, especially in large municipal treatment facilities where a lot of energy could be conserved and provide efficiencies and savings to metropolitan Los Angeles, one of the largest cities in the world.

For the pavilion, a sustainable design problem-solving assignment, I was ecstatic to learn the energy potential in algae, and used it as the basis of my problem-solving design. Another design element stemmed from an article I wrote in the LA Times HS Insider which detailed some of the vertical farming efforts around the world. As vertical farms innovate what already exists in the greenhouse concept, I combined the vertical farm element into the structure with the inspiration from a living tree, which provides production and recreational elements within the human world. So if there's innovation in my design, it may be to see the potential of building a vertical farm with algae conversion technology at the source of where excess algae is located. (I was also looking to lessen the headache with the process of mitigation between polluters and municipalities.) Without any part of my combination of above-ground, vertically situated growth pods, transporting tubes, solar panels, algae-collecting pumps, and algae conversion plant, the Algae Energy Pavilion would not so fully mimic a living tree.

Most importantly, I feel we are here in this forum to solve some of the world's most urgent problems in innovative entrepreneurial ways. So I hope the Algae Energy Pavilion has a good home amongst some of the great projects and ideas such as yours, and I hope it will play a part in improving our world.

Thank you.

Hello Emmanuel,

Thank you for your comments and questions! I had found the statement that eutrophication was one of the most prevalent water problems in the world from the United Nations website. I don't have the specific link currently, but I believe it was part of the speech given by former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

You are correct about the project having a long road ahead, there is a lot of research required prior to implementation. But if the project solves a significant enough problem and produce positive results and projects, it should be a worthwhile process.

Thank you very much!

Hello Ntoko,

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments! It is with the support and wisdom from people such as yourself that we find strength and knowledge to solve the world's problems. Throughout the history of human civilization, development has come at the cost to Earth's natural environment and brought about negative consequences such as pollution. Myself included, I hope the youth can focus on new developments that will involve positive impacts to restore Earth's environments and improve the balance with natural systems. I see a lot of ideas and projects within this community that will change the world for the better. I'm really happy to be amongst so many inspirational people.

Thank you!

August 26, 2017 00:24

Dear Anita,

Thank you very much for your continued support and positive comments! In regard to your question, there are definitely challenges for the pavilion project before it becomes a viable solution to cleaning aquatic environments and providing renewed energy. As you said the scope of the project is massive, so it's not to be taken lightly. The most challenging aspect is that it would require a challenging initial investment to go into the research to balance the system and produce net results and enough positive gains for the institutional market to accept its implementation. If the pavilion works as it should in utility, and the institutions can value its environmental impacts and recreational utility, I believe it can be more successful.

Thank you also for referencing today's inspiration. I'm a teenager who has benefited from the knowledge of my teachers and the expertise of the scientists and technicians whose innovations became elements of my design. As we are provided the foundation, the youth can change our innocent thoughts, and contribute with our new found knowledge.

Thank you very much!

Dear Uledi,

Thank you for taking time to not only study my pavilion project, but also study my interview. I'm really glad the interview answered some of your concerns. In many ways, my conceptual design stands on the shoulders of giants. It is a tribute to my teachers for providing me with knowledge and critical thinking, and to the research and innovation that formed the basis of the pavilion's utility.

Thank you once more for providing me with support within this community. I'm humbled to be amongst so many inspirational people who will positive change the world.

Hi Vegah,

Thank you for your compliments! A lot of times, we look at problem-solving in a singular way, and we come up with a singular solution. But sometimes, solutions can be multiple and in combination. I saw the opportunity to resolve the excessive algae bloom problem as needing to not only remove the excess algae, but also make the algae useful. Luckily, both solutions combine to make the pavilion greener for its immediate environment, but also harnessing the potential in a renewed energy resource.

Thank you for your support!

Dear Hsueh,

Thank you for your wonderful comments! This project began as a challenge in an aquatic park at an empty field next to a man-made lake. I wanted to create a sustainable architecture that would enhance its natural elements, not look too artificial. I found biomimicry, in this case, drawing inspiration from a lakeside tree, the solution to the design challenge. The tree concept gave me the idea to also look into how the functions for the pavilion's utilities.

This is truly a wonderful idea, Chloe. I am surprised at how many ways this pavilion works just like a living tree!

Photosynthesis to grow algae while converting carbon dioxide to oxygen, taking organic waste up and converting the waste into something "fruitful" in biofuels, and maintaining water quality, these are all good qualities a tree provides in nature.

Keep coming up with ideas like these, and good luck with your development of this project!

August 24, 2017 08:24

Hi Pi-Shan,

Thank you for your kind words! Human development has been creating a lot of waste. In case of algae blooms, they are the result of excessive nutrient concentration in bodies downstream from the polluters. But I found out that algae is not just organic, but contains a lot of raw materials for converting into biofuels, so it naturally fit into the sustainable architecture project I designed. When I learned that eutrophication was one of the world's most prevalent water issues, I decided to share my project.

Thank you very much for your support!

Hello Abel,

Thank you for your comments, and I hope I have your support, as you have mine.

You are right that water companies have less and less resources to draw from for clean drinking water. With the level of water pollution, they also have to spend more and more to treat polluted waters to the level that is potable. That's why we are together in our quest to clean up what available waters there are, and to find alternative sources of water where it is not accessible.

Thank you very much!

August 22, 2017 05:11

Hello Chloe, It is well known that water companies have fewer and fewer opportunities to obtain clean drinking water.
Environmental studies show that water companies do not attempt to supply drinking water to the entire country because some regions are difficult to access. The costs of supplying water have recently increased in Colombia and they will continue to increase in the coming years.
In addition, studies examining environmental recovery after disturbance appear to show that recovery rates are slow, and no cases revealed an impacted site returning to pre-disturbance conditions for all parameters.
Studies show that the facilities that perceive environmental regulations as being stringent tend to have a higher environmental performance.
Disturbances, intended to aid both the supply of drinking water and water for environmental preservation, show that reclaimed water and water reuse are determining factors in raising the value of water.

Hello Manasa,

Sincere thanks for your encouraging comments! The idea that our beautiful rivers, lakes and pools have become polluted with toxic algae blooms really bothered me. In thinking about designs that could clean the waters for the enjoyment of the community, I came to know about the biofuel conversion from algae. You're right. Any time, we can recycle waste and produce something useful, we clean up the environment and turn something deemed as useless to become useful. I hope my design proves to be very functional while also having the aesthetics people will enjoy.

Thank you!

Dear Anita, thank you for your encouraging comments! As I mentioned in my comments of your project, we have a lot in common that we are taking organic waste and converting them into renewed energy. As you mention, both our project also succeed via human development and population growth, while providing a cleanup element to enhance the environment. Let's cheer each other on. Good luck to you!

August 17, 2017 06:08

Dear Seth, thank you for your positive comments. This was originally a design idea. I had not thought about implementing it until I read some articles about the prevalence of toxic algae blooms. As I developed the details with biomimicry inspirations, it became pretty complicated. However, I believe the combination of these concepts is what makes this project multi-dimensional, and I hope it makes it more widely acceptable. In the end, I hope it'll be worth it to pursue. So thank you very much, I hope to make the impossible possible.

August 17, 2017 06:01

Hi Andrei, thank you for your technical advice about commenting on others. IT WORKS NOW! I have been busy catching up on making comments. So thank you so very much for your help! I hope you received my comment as well, and I wish you good luck with your project.

August 17, 2017 05:58

Hello Uledi, thank you so much for your suggestions! You are right on about my needing to bring partners and NGOs to my project. I remember reading that eutrophication is one of the most prevalent water problems in the world, so I hope this solution would be one that could be widely accepted internationally. Having partners and supportive NGOs will be a key step toward implementation for sure.

August 17, 2017 05:54

Dear Emily, thank you for your kind comments and noticing my inspiration for my design. When I looked at the aquatic park with the open space, I imagined having a tree there with all the natural functions while providing shade and recreation. It really gave me the concept for the aesthetics. I'm so glad you like it! Thank you so much!

August 17, 2017 05:49

Hello Sebastian, thank you for your encouragement! I have checked out your project and left my comment there. I wish you good luck on your project! You have a noble cause, but implementing the value at the right cost is crucial for deployment and acceptance.

August 16, 2017 06:24

Hi Chloe,

I'm wowed by the thoughts in your idea, was almost thinking it's going to be impossible to execute but then, i remember the famous wise saying "Whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve." I believe this is workable and I wish you the best with it.

Kindest regards,
Seth

In the same aura of community, I'd like that you please also read through my idea and give a commenton it,

Hello Andrei, thank you for your positive comments! I know my project is not small, and require a lot of research and manpower to accomplish. I hope it is important and attractive enough to find support of the concept so it can progress to implementation. Fingers crossed! Also, I tried to comment on your project, but it keeps telling me that I need to "fill out all fields". Appreciate any insight for this. Thanks!

August 14, 2017 04:19

Hello Harry, it would be so exciting if the pavilion could become part of a community development project! Thank you for the vision. I will look into the real estate development aspect of the business as well.

August 14, 2017 04:17

Dear Ibiaye, thank you for your wonderful comments about my project. You are absolutely right that there are still research and studies to be done regarding the effectiveness of the project and the balance of the system. I hope to see positive results in the future so the pavilion can be "brought to life".

August 14, 2017 04:07

Dear Monique, thank you for your comments! As I designed the project with photosynthesis in mind, I quickly remembered how plants use carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. Just as trees and other plant life produces oxygen for us, I'm glad to use this concept to provide fresher environment for park goers who stroll, jog, bike and play near the pavilion. It was really a bonus to the recreational aspect of the pavilion.

August 13, 2017 06:59

Hi Chloe Huang
I real inspired with your project. As population increase and industrial development increases, the level of pollution increases just as you explained. For sure we need international projects like yours.I suggest that you invite more partners and NGOs because this is international issue to be awere
Congulatulation
Best wishes

August 13, 2017 06:47

Dear Brian, thank you very much for your positive comments! I think creating a win-win situation is very important to acceptance of environmental solutions, so I wanted to make the pavilion not only clean up the environment, but also produce something we can use. That way, we can get support from multiple sources, and the pavilion can be more widely accepted.

August 13, 2017 06:37

Dear Gabrielle, thank you for your kind words! Since the original site for the project design was in a park, I wanted to design the pavilion to be pleasing to park visitors while it enhances the park's environment.

August 13, 2017 06:33

Hi Angela, thank you for your kind words! I hope we, the young people, can make you proud. I'm into encouraging the youth to be more environmentally conscious and learn to protect the Earth so it can become a better place. So thank you, we'll do you proud.

August 13, 2017 06:29

Hi Katlego, you are absolutely right! That is why I want to combine university research with governmental or non-governmental support initially. A team can be built with better expertise and purpose from these organizations. Thank you for your support!

August 13, 2017 06:18

Dear Olivia, thank you for your encouragement. I hope the project can be feasible enough to allow for many municipalities to consider using it. I believe once the high construction cost can be justified with immediate environmental improvement and alternative fuel production, the project could be embraced.

Emily

August 13, 2017 05:08

What a great project you have conceived! I like its aesthetics, the multiple functions and the recreational interactive element. What I love the most is how it works just like a living tree - the photosynthesis, the carbon dioxide/oxygen exchange, etc. It certainly shows us that nature can be our best teachers. Go girl! Hope you get this developed.

August 12, 2017 05:23

Dear James, thank you for your comments. I would love to learn about the eutrophication in your area, and see if it\'s suitable for the pavilion design. Please let me know.

August 12, 2017 05:20

Hi Jerry, thank you for your kind words. They reflect how I felt when I was working on the project. The aquatic park I designed for had long stretches of recreational paths, and I really wanted to fill the space to bring more attractiveness and function to the park-goers. I'm glad you like it!

August 12, 2017 05:15

Hi Frank. YES! I was very excited to learn about algae biofuels when I first read an article about it. So imagine my excitement when I saw the algae-filled waters for which we needed to design an architectural solution. Taking the yucky stuff to produce something useful was perfect for my project. I hope to be able to invite you to relax in one soon!

August 11, 2017 05:17

Great Project. I want to invite you to vote for my project and comment if you want it.
Thanks and good luck

Skulpturesque design looks beautiful! This would work well in public parkland with its recreational and environmental functions. May work into community development.

August 9, 2017 22:41

Really interesting and educative. Never had a more concise information about algae in just one read. Way to go girl. Just got one more research topic. The impacts on sustainability are well outlined, and you were able to analyse some possible limitations to this project. I hope you get the funds you need, this work has a promising future.

We can make fuel from algae? I didn't know that. I'm often worried about the rate of climate change today, so I'm inspired to see young talent such as you come up with creative solutions like this pavilion. Let me know when the first project is built, I want to relax in the pavilion structure and see it work first-hand.
