Explain your project in details:
We train farmers to use Effective Micro-organism technology to control depletion of soil and crop health and increase farm yield to benefit Farmers, Human health & Nature. Excessive use of chemicals causes soil fertility depletion and increase deficiencies of certain micro-nutrients result in Nutrients Pollution. This threatens human health and environment. Weak and diseased soil grow low nutrient crop with traces of harmful Pesticide when consumed by people poses hazardous effect on their health. We believe that safe and nutritious food is right of every human and it should be affordable and accessible for all. Other issue is agonized condition of farmers. We emphasize to provide extra opportunity to our farmers to earn some financial premium by selling self prepared EM Compost and Pest Repellant. We assist our farmers to form Farmers Producer organization and set their own distribution channel. We assist our farmers to get their farms Organic certificated under NPOP standards and later assist them in find market where they can gain fair and premium prices for their organic farm yield. In future we will also initiate our farm to fork retail services under a unified brand by setting up our Processing unit or some value added services. Theory of Change: If we Increase awareness of the viability of intensive EM method agricultural alternatives to facilitate a shift toward sustainability which may supplant the need for damaging chemicals in food cultivation, could improve nutrients to the human diet and increase agricultural productivity, then it will pay social and financial premium to farmers community and function as rejuvenating system for earth.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Overall the use of EM is an economical way to promote a sustainable, resource-recycling agriculture. There are various benefit of EM method which are as follows:- (1) Our Farmers will benefit from cash savings (30%-40%) as EM farming technology precludes the need to purchase of chemicals fertilizers and harmful pesticides. (2) Extra incomes (10%-25%) gained by selling the surplus farm produce and self prepared EM Compost and Pest Repellant. (3) Premium prices for certified organic produce and added value to organic products through processing activities. (4) EM farms have more availability of plant nutrients and improved soil health which aids in sustaining farms for ages. (5) Food produced is enriched with nutrients and is safe for consumption. It does not contain any harmful toxic content .Therefore it is good for human health and controls nutrition Pollution . The general awareness and (EM technology) introductory session are open to all farmers.Later, a batch of interested farmers (especially small and marginal) is selected. They are provided intensive training via workshops and interactive sessions with other agricultural experts such as scientist from Agriculture University and other agro-based institutions. To round up the training program, there are around eight workshops and monitoring sessions carried out on the farmers land in one crop cycle. All this knowledge and guidance is imparted free to the registered farmers. Getting started does not need any major setup. Simple drums can be used to store and treat the EM solution. Other raw materials are agricultural waste, cow dung, cow urine, EM solution enriched with gypsum, and bone meal Bokashi for preparation of EM-compost. Leaves and fruits of various plants, easily available locally are used for the preparation of the pest repellant. The best part is that soil starts adapting to the EM method from the very first crop season.
Sustainability and future plans
Weve luckily won a couple of grants and that takes care of our finances right now, but moving forward, we need a business plan to generate revenue. After discussing with the farmers, we are toying with the idea of 40% of the difference between the premium price and market selling price. The other idea is to get 10% of the sale of EM technology products but with lesser number of farmers we cannot have a self sustainable business model. To spike the volume, we, therefore, plan to set up our own processing unit where we can directly procure, process, package, and sell the products in the market. The added advantage is that well be able to cut down the intermediaries in between, and thus enhance profit margin for farmers and EMPIWF. We want to provide A-Z solution to worries of our farmers and encourage every possible farmer in our country to go organic via EM way .we want to expand our Program to every inches of our country we want to develop our own brand and have our value added products based on agro-climatic condition and need of local population. We wish to have our own retail outlets from where we can sell our farmers produce directly as well as sell it via super market and local retailers . We are planning to scale up our work and every time we cant look towards other for fund .Therefore we Plan to have our own processing unit (flour mill ) where we can process our organic farmers yield and directly sell it in market to earn extra income for ourselves and our farmers. We have estimated that if everything falls in its place we will be 100% self sustainable within 3 years from setting up of our first processing unit.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
Back in mid 2006, Abhishek Pandey, a hospitality and catering graduate, noticed that customers were being charged exorbitant prices for organic food while interning at a famous chain of hotels. This seemed unfair to him why should anyone pay more for organic food? Why do the profits from the organic food industry not trickle down to the person who toils the hardest against all odds the farmer? How can these farmers be empowered? We all work hard to earn bread and throughout our life we continuously work for better life for oneself and our family. I belief safe and nutritious food is fundamental right of every human and it should be affordable and accessible for all rather than only to riches. Every human being deserves nutritious and healthy food and it is a human right we talk about right of food but we should talk on right of nutrition and safe food. While learning about this technology found various hazardous effect of chemical farming and pesticides to soil health, human health and environment which also poses threat to bio diversity and barren farms for future generation. Above all poverty and agonized condition of our farmers spark a passion in me to found our organization and serve humanity and mother earth. Awards I've been conferred with. 1. Winner of Mahindras Spark The Rise contest in idea Category of Season 2012-2013. 2. Awarded as Project Champion under NABARD-SDC RIF SCHEME by NABARD 2016. 3.
