Others and You
Explain your idea in details:
The idea of a never ending poverty cycle is prevalent in third world countries today. Children from countries like Zambia, South Africa, and Zambia are born into uncontrollable, and often horrible circumstances. They are denied of a voice, and have their opinions overlooked. As a t-shirt brand, Others And You serve to overcome this type of unhealthy stigma towards voices in third world countries. By printing childrens drawings on the back of our t shirts, we show people that these children are capable, bright, and deserve more recognition. Within the past year, executive members of Others and You have travelled to Zambia and worked with two organizations called UNICEF and Twende Education Centre. The Twende Educational Centre focuses on providing children in sickle cell centres with education while they receive their treatments. We were all very fortunate to meet 20 bright children who have great hopes to use their voices to make the world a better place. In the very near future, Others and You plan to print the pictures these children have drawn on the backs of t-shirts and sell it to the general public. It is crucial to us that other privileged members of our society acknowledge their worth and capabilities. All profits made from these t-shirts will go directly to Twende Educational Centre, and hopefully UNICEF as well.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Others and You hope to target all social and educational deficits existing within todays society. Our initial plan is to aid children who are deprived of a thriving chance within their societies. We help them specifically by guiding others to realize those childrens potentials, as well as provide them with a good and consistent education for long term success. By using a T-shirt to illustrate a child in needs potential goals for the future, such as becoming a president or a pediatrician, we hope that fortunate individuals acknowledge the fact that children in third world countries have dreams and should also have the chance of achieving them. Once we achieve our goal of sending at least 10 children to school, we will expand and target other social issues as well. We acknowledge that gender and racial stigmas are issues within many third world countries as well. We hope to promote equality for current victims and raise enough awareness to stop inimical events such as child marriage and limited access to resources for women in those areas. There exists many more pressing issues within our international communities, and Others and You plan to target as many as possible and help cater to the needs of those who lack necessities. Through Others and You, we hope that people acknowledge that those who live in poverty have a voice, and that they are capable to achieving their goals like others and you.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The main objective of Others and You is to reach out to as many people as possible. Therefore, our primary marketing strategy is to start a website detailing our works of promoting those in needs capabilities of achieving their dreams despite certain circumstances. When an individual clicks on our website, they are directed to a front page detailing major social deficits existing within our society. Based on each purchasers interest, they are able to look into a specific issue and read personal stories about hardships those in third world countries endure. It is in our hopes that their stories encourage the purchasers to see that the individuals in third world countries are also people capable of achieving their dreams in life. With the website, we hope to build a strong personal connection between the purchasers and those they are helping. As a Non-Profit Organization, a small portion of the funds raised will be used to cover any operational costs, such as the costs of printing t-shirts. The rest of the funds will directly go to the organization of the consumers choice and will be used to help those in need in the best way possible. Currently, as the CEO, most of the operational costs have come out of my own pocket from my jobs. However, we are optimal that such costs will be covered with future purchases. As for collaborators and possible sponsors, representatives of Others and You have spoken to UNICEF Zambia and have gained their seal of approval for possible support on future projects. We also have two sponsors willing to pitch in and support our projects in the near future. We hope to gain support from more UN branches as they will truly impact our ability to change lives for those who are less fortunate.
I am a fifteen year old student who resides in the beautiful province of British Columbia in Canada. To be completely honest, I was born with a silver spoon and up until now, took many things given to me for granted. Growing up, Ive never had to worry about going to bed on an empty stomach. Ive never had to worry about walking 20 kilometers with a heavy jug to fetch fresh water for the rest of my family. Ive never had to worry about not getting a good education. All of that was handed to me, and I took them for granted. Now, fast forward to 2017. In December of 2017, I was fortunate enough to go on a service trip to Lusaka, Zambia. I have previously contacted UNICEF for ways I can help and they directed me to Andrea Mualula, who was the founder of Twende Learning Centre. When I arrived, Andrea showed me her current project which involved a non profit learning centre located in the primary cancer hospital in Lusaka. I was truly inspired by Andrea and the amazing kids at her learning centre. Each and every one of them had amazing dreams. There was one girl who stuck with me. Her name was Inonge and she dreamt of being a pediatrician. Although this angel is no longer with us today, I feel obligated to spread her goals in life out to the world. Living in a country where the internet is not accessible to almost everyone, these childrens voices and dreams are forgotten. I didnt want them to be forgotten, because every single one of them was filled with passion and potential. Therefore, I established Others and You
