Explain your idea in details:
USP of present idea is to utilise unused spaces of buildings to produce vegetables by organic farming along-with installation of solar panels for electricity generation. This requires liasianing with different organisations and taking roof space on lease basis.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Inspite of already available technologies which are being considered for implementation of Green City concept, present idea has following advantages over others: 1. Growing plants for production of vegetables on unused roofs, will reduce the city pollution level 2. Giving training to the locals in roof farming this solving unemployment problem too. 3. Encouraging organic farming and increasing organic vegetables availability to local population 4. Organic vegetables at a cheaper price as this method saves transportation costs. 5. Availability of fresh vegetables as vegetables are sold in local market on same day. 6. Installation of solar panels on same roof, will produce power that can be consumed by that building and excess power can be fed to the grid to supply to other parts of the city. With the above, it is seen that by utilising unused roof spaces for production of vegetables and installation of solar panels is a step towards sustainable development of the cities.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
1. Check climate conditions of a place for vegetables production. 2. Check availability of water and load bearing capacity of a targeted building. 3. Getting permission from building owner 4. Training of local persons to work as gardener 5. Preparation of roofs for production of vegetables and installation of solar panels 6. Production of vegetables and electricity 7. Selling the production in local market 8. Consumption of generated electricity for local use and distribution of excess power to the power grid for utilisation by others.
