UNITE TO GROW
Explain your idea in details:
The idea is basically to create a network that connects different youth entrepreneurs as well as aspiring entrepreneurs. This network will take the form of a mobile Application that will profile each entrepreneur as well as their activity. It will also profile the aspiring young entrepreneurs who will be linked to their various mentors. It is intended to create a business chain for every youth entrepreneur, whereby, each business connects with another business whose activities directly relates to the formers. For instance, a youth involved in agriculture can connect with a youth that deals with sales of agricultural products and of course they can connect with another youth that is involved in transportation business. Secondly, the Network will also entail connecting these youth entrepreneurs with other youths who wish to start their own businesses but dont know how to go about it. They will be assisted in the creation of theirs. The App. will also permit the creation of a community where opportunities can be shared so the young entrepreneurs can benefit from and grow their businesses eventually. However, rural youths will be encouraged to carry out group initiatives. The objectives of the initiative are; - Keep youths busy and fight the spirit of individualization. - Give equal chances to youths from underprivileged backgrounds or rural areas to succeed. - Facilitate business partnerships between youth entrepreneurs even those from other countries. - Create new markets. - Reduce rural exodus by enabling youths in rural areas establish businesses in their communities and collaborating with those in urban areas to do the marketing. - Lastly, promote youth entrepreneurship.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The initiative will enable the countrys youths to drift from the idea of depending solely on the government for employment; thereby reducing the probability of the occurrence of civil unrest and unnecessary violence. It will also permit the government to face the striking challenges of poverty, high insecurity issues (due to the involvement of idle youths in theft and scams), and high rate of unemployment. We intend to create a future where at least 60% of youths are occupied with an activity. Thereby, reducing hunger and foster economic growth. Lots of youths will be motivated to create their own ventures.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The business model that will be adopted for the project will be that of a Non-profit Organization and will have as sustainability, a well-established and coordinated Network comprised of diverse youth entrepreneurs and aspiring youth entrepreneurs. The Network will have as its managers, successful and highly rated youth entrepreneurs from different economic sectors who will guide and advice the others in their different business or social enterprise transactions. As for the implementation, the procedure will have the following phases; Phase I: It involves meeting as many youth entrepreneurs as possible in different communities and creating contact with them. Phase II: Creating an android Application that will contain; the profiles of each youth entrepreneur, their contact information and details of their enterprises or businesses. Phase III: Organize trainings on the usage of the Application and its functions. Phase IV: Getting youth entrepreneurs to mentor and assist other youths in establishing their own businesses..especially establishing groups of community youths and implementing large scale agriculture for urban markets etc). With regards to the sources of finance, we intend to personally finance the first stages of the project but as for the last phase, we plan on using the money from the sales of the agricultural products to assist those, who participated in the farming process but dont wish to continue in the sector, to establish the business they love after a considerable amount of money has been made. Of course, we hope with time, we shall inspire other collaborators to invest in the project.
Ethel Dredda Orock is a young African woman, aged 29, who has refused to let her family background determine her fate. I am a Masters 1 graduate of Business Law from the University of Douala, Cameroon. I have held a few paid positions in Non-governmental organizations but have never really had the self-satisfaction I wanted. Each day, a youth gets to me and says Ethel, I am tired of searching for jobs and receiving rejection emails. It is frustrating. That is exactly how difficult it is to make it in Africa when one comes from an underprivileged background but I believe it is time we stand up for each other. The only desire I have is to assist other youths break the chain of poverty and be able to provide for their families just like I did. Right now, I am in the process of registering an organization that promotes youths entrepreneurship and children in informal alternative care. I believe in a world where everyone gets an equal chance of success.
