Explain your idea in details:
Compact Community will work as a town compacted into a hotel like building. The building will include a variety of living corridors, dining, classes, shops, galleries, child care, self care facilities, and a greenhouse, being the main structure. The whole purpose of this is to not just shelter those in need but to get them back in action, to treat them as normal citizens, because they are. The classes and a small portion of the rooms will be open to paying customers as well, which is where some income will be brought in, the rest will be from the shops selling various items made on property and donations. The building itself will be made of recycled materials and the power will come from solar, hydro, and wind power, while ingredients for food and various on site class projects, will be grown throughout the property using hydroponics and aquaponics. The main classes will offer courses in botany, agriculture, culinary, visual arts, and a general studies. We will interview potential residents and help them plan out their stay based on their income or lack of and what they are looking to gain from the organization.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Overall in theory this will reduce the homeless and jobless population while helping keep the environment clean by running a green facility and teaching it's residents to live a green lifestyle even once they leave. My goal is once one opens and is a success we can earn recognition and expand globally depleting the waste of material, creating jobs, expanding education, and just flat out helping the human race.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
As of right now this is just an idea. I'm planning that once this idea gets out, donors and volunteers will want to be a part of the organization. We can also hold fundraisers and gain sponsors to help bring it all together.
My name is Heidi Morgan, I'm currently 21 years old, but I will be 22 in August. I am an artist but I like to dabble in pretty much everything. I've been a wedding photographer, I helped put the pamphlet together for "Le Tour de France" (J'ai pris deux ans de Francaise...mais je ne suis pas excellent), I've won a few art awards, having a piece on permanent display at Harrison School of the Arts, I was on the board of judges for the Denver Independent Film Festival, I've been VIP to Denver Fashion Week, and I currently work at a burger joint....which I end with that because at the end of the day I'm still a human being, and I feel we've lost touch with reality and the fact that every single person is indeed just a human being. That is why I am passionate about this project because at the end of the day we are all the same, yes we contribute to society in our own ways, but that doesn't mean anyone deserves to be treated less. I have volunteered at a homeless shelter before, and yes I was happy that people were doing their best to help, but we could be doing more for humanity, not just a specific group, but all of it, everyone.
