Best Ideas 2018 features all the nominated entries submitted to the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition under ‘Submit your Idea’ category. All the entries consist of innovative solution or proposition for an enterprise that champions the Sustainable Development Goals. They can be on the conceptual, planning, or start-up stage. Explain your idea in details:
According to the UN, by 2050 the world will have approximately 10 billion of people, at the same time crops yields, mainly grain and corn, could decrease by 50% over the next 35 years because of altered climatic conditions. Futhermore, Agriculture is estimated to be the direct driver for around 80% of deforestation worldwide. How to keep crop production to feed world population in a unpredicted climate and still preserve natural forests? The objective of FrontierA is to solve that problem. We are going to establish vertical sustainable greenhouses powered by solar energy. As agriculture suffers labour shortage we will highly intruduce and constatly upgrade Artificial Intelligence in our process, not only by predicting data to establish a stable production but also to automatize by robots the work such as planting, harvesting and irrigation, the monitoring of crop health will be done by deep learn algorithms. Our product focus in mainly in corn, wheat and soya beans, we intend in the future to establish small vegetables production. For our sales channels, we not only want to be part of your daily life grocery shopping, but we have personalized solutions for food security such as - WeatherPlan : we offer countries a personalized solution when unpredictable weather causes a huge lost on crops affecting food supply. DisasterPlan: the future is unpredictable, and all countries are subjected to natural disaster, civil conflicts and other events that can affect food supply, throught an alliance we offer thoses countries food security in those situations until their production get stable. We believe in a new frontier for sustainable agriculture!
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
In 10 years we expect be part of 20% of worldwide production, have FAO has our partner and reduce forest deforestation for agriculture to at least 40% and impact a minimum of 30 countries. Our KPI's to measures the sucess of our solution will be: the total production we can reach in regular sales, the total recovered forest area deforestated by agriculture, number of countries and people impacted by our WeatherPlan and DisasterPlan program, our relationship with FAO for world food security.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
You can fund me to get my idea to the Silicon Valley : https://www.catarse.me/girl_on_a_mission_silicon_valley_38d2?ref=project_link The business model is separated in 6 phases. Phase I: to establish all AI algorithms. We will first establish data analysis algorithms for long term production and after that to robotics, is important to highlight that not all operations will be done by robotics. Phase II: Construct high tech vertical greenhouses in strategical places, also those greenhouses will be supported by solar energy in all functions. Phase IIIA: start production of soya beans, corn and wheat. Phase IIIB: start deep learning algorithms to monitore health of production. Phase IIIC: marketing and sales strategies. Phase IV: DisasterPlan and WeatherPlan programs implementation. Our main expensives comes from AI and our biggest challenge from our two programs.
Hello! How are you? Thanks for stopping by! My name is Thaís Morgenstern. I was born in rural southern Brazil, in the city of Maringá, Paraná. I'm a Bachelor in Forest Engineer, during that time I was awarded a scholarship from the brazilian government to study Environmental Science at University of Wisconsin - River Falls for one year. I had the opportunity to organize several events on forest politics and industries and also to participate in projects in local communities to talk about sustainability. I have experience on working in Forestry with combination of experience both in corporate and research in developing most of my work in forest economics, business, market intelligence and sustainability! I'm also doing two nanodegrees, one in Computer Science and other in Design Sprint. Through different circumstances such as having a family dependent on agriculture, the motivation to change the future, and after many studies on climate change, agriculture and the growing world population, FrontierA was born with the need to secure world food and reduce the pressure of agriculture on natural environments.
