Explain your idea in details:
Nigerias among world most populous city of over 195 million people, currently generates about 24 million tons of waste annually at refuse dumpsites across the country daily, and much of this waste is not collected. Waste management presents problems in a mega city like Kano and other major Nigerian cities which are linked with economic development, Population growth and the inability of municipal councils to manage the resulting rise in industrial and domestic waste. Haphazard industrial planning, increased urbanization, poverty and lack of competence of the municipal government are seen as the major reasons for high levels of waste pollution and flood in major Nigerian cities. Some of the solutions have been disastrous to the environment, resulting in untreated waste being dumped in places where it can pollute waterways and groundwater Environmental and Health Problems. Wastes pose serious environmental and health problems, this uncollected waste leads to clogged waterways and unsightly heaps of trash that often line the streets. Gocyclers is for-profit social enterprise working to help communities reclaim their neighborhoods from unmanaged waste using cargo tricycles called Go-tricycles to provide convenient recycling services to households in Kano by using an SMS-based incentives system. We go different community and collect waste, each community/ household is being registered on our database where we go on schedule bases, and sometimes we give each house small stipend according to the metric tons of waste gathered at the end of the month. Gocyclers would registered with local and foreign companies where we distribute the end recycle products at a fee according to the metric tons supplied. We want to create the largest recycling company in Africa.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Gocycler would use selection and application of suitable techniques, technologies, and management programs to achieve specific waste management objectives and goals. Using Solid Waste management methods include waste minimization (or reduce), reuse, and recycling before thinking of disposal. We would also collect all worn out tyres and use as fence around school children as playground, which would be very impressive for comfort, we would also use aluminum and convert to cooking pots and all plastic is transformed into plates, spoons, chairs etc. used in households. All broken beer bottles end up again as good and clean bottles for industries which are starving for raw materials. Recycling the non-biodegradable will help the individual and also the local industry. In recent years many industries are starved of raw materials. For Gocycling to be successful, separation would start at household level. paper, plastic, aluminum, iron and glass would be separated and kept in separate bins or baskets, this will reduced normal waste for clearing agent and less will be paid for service. With this we would give back to the environment and the society. It would directly contribute back to the society to support the growth and development of both rural and urban community from increasing underdevelopment and poverty. We would also increase sanity through enabling ICT. Gocycler would make change via technology usage and create innovation from waste weve thrown. We would be addressing Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The strategy we will use will be mainly B2B and B2C business strategy. We will perform sampling for industries launches our product so as to increase awareness among people and to attract customers and demonstrate its efficiency on waste recycling. . Gocycler plan to work with large corporation and industries, especially those who are production to investigate the life-span of their products and help them play a part in contributing back to the environment and the society. Our first step is setting up an effective recycling program to survey different workplace, and figure out exactly what's going into the trash. Then, we figure out which products are recyclable and which one is to be include in workplace recycling initiative. We shall collect and manage waste including synthesizing both biogas and briquettes environment and the society. What we do is helping the environment. Gocycler plan to work with large corporation, especially those who are producing leather, iron and steel and electronics devices, for efficient distribution of recycled product. We shall encourage and support projects and also maintain the online platforms and leverage on ICT.
