"Rothkia: seeding the local social needs" (rothkia=pomegranate tree in cypriot dialect)
Explain your idea in details:
The main object is to create an innovative space where social change will happen in many fields. On one hand, I want to build a bridge between vulnerable and non-vulnerable groups of population, and on the other hand to promote a greener culture, a thing that I see we lack as a country. This is why firstly I choose to create a social enterprise where people belonging to vulnerable groups will have a place to be trained and work, social economy in my country is not yet well developed and there is no place for such groups to work, even if they have the abilities to do it. I choose that this is a coffee place because it is a main aspect of the local culture. I choose that is a green one as this is an aspect that it is not in our culture and we should better fight to make it part of our it. The activities to be carried will be to offer high quality products, collaborating with local producers and also to offer the possibility for participation of the potential clients and schools in social cinema and other projects i.e. theatrical workshop to fight oppression, etc.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The main targets are: 1. to train and offer work to people with vulnerable background. 2. to offer high quality products, collaborating with the local market. 3. to promote a green culture between the consumers. 4. to promote a social cinema project and others, collaborating with the wider community. 5. to create a green space that more coffee places will imitate to promote a greener culture in the country. To evaluate the success of the coffee place will be seen in the potential clients: whether they increase but also whether they come back again and again. Also, this will be seen in the number of interested authorities, collaboration, school, producers, etc. on the projects of the Coffee place. To evaluate the progress of the work of the employees from vulnerable groups, we will have specific observation sheet upon concrete topics of desired development (soft and hard skills).
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The business model I would like to follow it the one of the Social Economy, where there is a special focus on fighting to improve a social issue. Financing sources will be found in my personal savings, in EU Erasmus+ funding for the social projects to be run, and also from collaborators interested to invest to this project. Another financing source will be from potential members and governmental funds regarding women entrepreneurship. Also, is necessary collaboration with social workers, Psycho/Ergo/Music-Therapist, etc.
PMy name is Loukia Tsangaridou, I come from Cyprus and I am 28 years old. I studied Primary Education, Ma in Didactic of Language. I have working experience in accounting, store management and secretarial-office manager tasks. The last two years I am participating in social projects, the first was in a social farm in Austria where people with mental or/and other disabilities work and the second one as the Manager in a social cooperative business in Greece, where people with disabilities (mainly autism) are trained and working (coffee place-events place). My motivation to have my own business comes from the fact that I want to work for my society and not just to be paid. The highest recognition I got is the one of the second working place where I became the Manager and I had to deal with my few experience the needs of the business, clients and personnel with disabilities. I proposed an evaluation system and a monthly meeting where in both systems my team of employees with disabilities have the chance to express themselves. I consider them as human beings that can be active in the society/work they live, and when you hear their voice is amazing what they can propose and do. I love learning languages and also cooking!
