SAVING THE COASTAL REGION: THE RESTORATION OF SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD IN ONDO STATE LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Past researches been done on Environmental implications of oil Exploration and exploitation in these region shows that these activities has left trail of woes in their path with so much damage to the ecosystem and problems to human life in the exploration region while turning the rivers black. The affected communities identified in this region are Igbakoda, magic, igbo, igbonla and others. Geographical coordinates: 6°21 0 North, 4°48 0 East. The main objective behind this idea is to see to the wellbeing and betterment of Livelihood of the community members in the affect coastal region by providing a substantial means of living which will serve as an alternative to their former way of life which is been destroyed or affection, we will also checking through the environment problems in the community and coming up with a countermeasure to reverse the pollution effects. With the Collaboration, help and resources of some NGOs and companies Im affiliated with, Wildlife of Africa conservation Initiative and Lagos Lagoon Waterkeeper, with others like; Environmental Rights Action, Ogunmond farms & Farmer Academy, both local and state government, the successful implementation of these sustainable development will entail some activities and innovative approach such as; Identification of the most affected and least affected will be done, head counting in order to determine the total number of the people affected in both health and property loss, locating durable lands for farming within Ondo state not far from the community axiss, health assistance will be giving to people who are physically affected by the pollution, providing a clean and usable water system means to compensate the affected water and also initiating a research teams to work on how best to reverse the oil spill pollution engraving the community and its wildlife.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
These idea will be dealing with some of the sustainable development goals which are; SDG 2: Zero hunger, SDG 3: Good health and well-being, SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation, SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities, SDG 14: Life Below water and SDG 15: Life on land. If this proposed idea is been implemented in those affected coastal region all this mentioned sustainable development goals will be achieved. In this communities, Fishing is there major occupation while fewer of them farm whereby this farms are away from the community. Well and tap waters are not drinkable due to high level of pollution in the communities, the black crude oil river which is a channel route within this communities are den of crude oil black market dealers loading crude oils way to sell. According to the informations obtained, there is a part which is less polluted where fishing activities occur. In this communities, they trade fish to traders in exchange of water, farm produce and water. With this idea, there would be accessible and usable water means in the communities, there will be low and reduced rate of health hazards, and with the help of Environmental Rights Action involvement, community people being denied of land and property loss compensation will be compensated which will make them to have an alternative means of livelihood, hunger will not be given a chance in such community and the wildlife both on land and in water would be given and chance to live which will be the measures to indicate the successful implementation of these idea.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
With the collaboration and Involvement of some certain NGOs, Local Government, State Government and Companies which are Wildlife of Africa conservation Initiative, Lagos Lagos Lagoon Waterkeeper, Shell company which is known to be the main source of this Oil spill Plolution, State Government Land Agency, Agricultural Farming company (Ogunmond farms & Farmer Academy), Environmental Rights Action and Environmental related issue research team, we will be working head-to-head and side-by-side to tackle the community environmental issue. Most of the community members complained of not been compensated for the loss they suffered by the involved company SHELL. With the help of Environmental Rights Action and others supporting NGOs, we will claim their supposed compensation for them. For this compensation funds not been squandered unnecessarily on other things, with the collaboration of both Local and state government, durable and usable lands will be available by lease at an affordable rate which will be within the state not far from the community for easy access. For the farming operation to be made easy, Ogunmond farms & Farmer Academy will provide proper counselling and provision of the necessary things needed for the farming operation which will be made to be funded by Shell. Health care will be provided for those who are in need through the help of the state government, whereby Wildlife of Africa conservation Initiatives, Lagos lagoon waterkeeper and Environmental related research teams will be working on how to provide an alternative water source within the community and also work on how to reverse the pollution effect in the community on water, land, both life under and on land wildlife. Also be doing a follow up work on the community, in order identify improvement and other problems arising.
I was born on the 5th of October 1996 and I will be 22 years old by October. I was born in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The love for people, nature and wildlife has been the driving vice which as prompt me to acquire more knowledge and skill in the field of Animal Production and Health, Environmental issue and solution, and also wildlife conservation in order to contribute a major effort in building a sustainable livelihood through volunteering and Agricultural based resources. Im an undergraduate student of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria, studying Animal production and health. I was admitted in the 2014 and expected to graduate in the year 2019. I have been awarded the most sort-after student around March 2015, and also the best class representative of the year around May 2018. I have been involved in Conservation and Environmental friendly activities like March for endangered animal species, Sea turtle conservation, Educational activities to primary schools on wildlife conservation, Beat plastic pollution and tree planting. I am volunteer at Wildlife of Africa Conservation Initiative and Lagos Lagoon Waterkeepr. In school, I work as a student veterinarian helping people out with their animals and pets issue which I get paid for.
