Device for helping deaf people
Explain your idea in details:
I want to develop it into a portable device which is similar to the mobile phone. It will have the digital screen, memory storage (to save peoples voices and we can store them in the contact list), recording sound function, voice recognize function (to distinguish between the noise and humans voice) and translating into language function (it could have the international language translator function also). It can work within 2 meter length. It will have a vibration when the device recognize someones voice just like the chat message. For example: When some person talking to me, I can record her voice and save her voice in the contact. And the next time shes speaking, her name and her words will be displayed on the screen. It can also be applied in a group of people talking. The deaf person can know who is saying and what is mentioned just by simply looking on the screen. And when some persons calling the deaf from the distance, the device will have the notification by vibrating. I think that this device can be developed by using the Google voice and Google translate (if it has the international language translating function).
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Since the cochlear implant and the hearing aid cost deaf patients a big amount of money and not everyone is suitable to these methods. In fact, both methods have the side effects to the patients such as nerve damage/injury or the device doesnt work or get infected (for cochlear implant), discomfort (when wearing the hearing aid), dizziness, tinnitus Besides, the purpose of these methods are just using the devices to amplify the sound for better hearing. Actually, it makes the sound louder for the patients. My idea is about finding another way to help deaf people how to recognize the sound more easily. By using the translator device, the patient can read the words on the screen without feeling the discomfort or having any side effects that maybe caused when wearing the hearing aid or cochlear implant. This device can help the deaf: to communicate with other people; get into the community easier, help them overcome the low self-worth feeling, able to hear when somebody calling them from the distance). I also want to develop this idea into an application but I think making it into the device will be better. It can have more specific functions for the deaf than an application can do.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The first thing is the price of the product. It supposed to be under $150. Because, I hope that everyone who really needs it can afford to buy the device, especially in the less-developed countries. Actually, I want to devote this idea to Google company. I think that theyve already had the manpower and finance resource to do this. Besides, the medical device manufacturer is another option to develop this device. To make this idea come true, I think that we will need the manufacturer to produce it, the engineers and the financial ability ( I think that we can raise funds or find sponsors)
My name is Phuong Que Tran. I come from Vietnam. I was born in 1990. I have worked at the Vietnam Airlines caterers in the Administrator position. I want to share one short story that bring me to here. I've got this idea since one of my friends is the hard of hearing person. I find that its very hard for her to join the community and live like an ordinary people. She could not find the fulltime jobs, because she couldnt hear what people saying or when they calling her and the managers thought that she was rude to them. This led to the big misunderstood. As the result, people didnt not accept a staff with this attidude. Until now, all the jobs that she finds are part-time jobs. This is just one of my friends problems, and I think I must do something about it. According to me, the disable in my country dont have many supports from others. Obviously, when the disable appear in the street, people still have a pitying look to them more than helping them. I want to raise this idea to the global website, hoping that it can help the deaf people who living not only in Vietnamese but also in other countries all over the world. This is the first time that I join in the humanity project. So, thank you all for bringing me here.
