Zero Waste Store
Explain your idea in details:
To accomplish this idea, it would be great to include local farmers and their source of vegetation and products into the market. In current urbanized grocery stores, the vegetables and other fresh food options already have few plastic products. This can be further reduced by letting people use their own containers and such. The idea is applicable in all purchasable items. Even from laundry detergent, soap, shampoo and other packaged things can help. All that needs to be done is to have an agreement with suppliers not to deliver them in single use plastic as the products would be package free. If the buyer does not have any available container, produce bags, jars, bayongs and other items would be available for purchase or deposit. Much like the system of sari-sari stores, there are bottles where you can pay for a deposit fee that you can get back once you return the bottle.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
With this entire concept, it would help in waste reduction, due to the decrease of pollutants from the production to the actual packaging. The future would seem brighter with the cut of production of non biodegradable material, as businesses that produce them will eventually seem unprofitable due to the decline of sales. With the reduction of plastic, the climate will not further overheat as it is currently doing. Prices would most likely lower down due to the removal of packaging as it's sold with just the product itself, cutting cost for distribution. Local farmers of either agriculture or fishing would increase in exposure and sales, producers would get a higher percentage of profit as opposed to commercialized products that have to go through too many With the decrease in price and the increase of salary, families that are not as fortunate would now be able to afford things they wouldn't usually be able to. The consumption of products bought would not impact the planet as much as non biodegradable packaged products.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Business model would be subscription, physical store, or a combination of both. Buyers could prepay for their subscription of household products and others. To have a fixed time frame and quantity of products to be delivered package free. People could also go to the physical store and purchase whatever they need. Partnerships could be made with interested investors for the, to have a store built in their area for accessibility purposes. To give more options for the people who would prefer not to have their items delivered because of the use of energy. Collaborators would include designers who would help set up the physical store and make sure the products are kept fresh as needed and minimize contamination of products that are perishable. Since the main reason single used packaging was made was to keep things fresh and prevent contamination. Although, they went overboard with the unnecessary packaging such as peeling oranges and placing them in plastic containers. Suppliers that are directly producing and/or harvesting products, as well as the store owners. The latter could be the initial investors for this zero waste concept.
As a 16 year old, I've grown up in a middle class family will values and efforts of sustainability in different forms. Spending most of my time with my equally invested sister on zero waste and the wonders it creates, I am further pulled into the idea of these concepts. Motivation can be seen from the businesses on zero waste in other countries that were able to have accomplished their beginning goals. Although, my eyes have started to open with deep care I have for animals and their suffering due to the alleged "innovation" humanity has created. Qualities that are suitable for this entire concept include determination, motivation, the ability to express ideas in a continuous flow and the concept of inspiring others to do the same.
