Explain your idea in details:
The one main objective is to step away from the routine daily tasks to have few minutes of mindful stillness without forcing ourselves. With tons of apps created to increase productivity, reduce stress, reduce distractions, reduce social network usage etc., we often forget that its a vicious circle by itself. With notifications to remind us to practice meditation or even to take some deep breathe, why not shun the outside world for a small chunk of time, not to push ourselves to concentrate on anything, or to push ourselves to do deep breathing. Because it is another form of stress to compel ourselves to de-stress. So the sole idea is to take some time off the digital and smart world out there, to take a pen and some color pencils which comes with the tiny journal, to follow the pre guided pattern, draw a tiny zenart, and color it as per ones taste. It takes less than 15 minutes to complete one, with each doodle containing a prompt, expecting a phrase or couple of words to answer them. Also each doodle contains a positive quote or a nice classic song lyric to remind that life is not as tough as we think and to take things light. It gives a sense of completeness, as an art form is completed within few minutes, something beautiful to see, something that the person can own for herself/himself. A tiny monthly journal, sized 4x4, capable of being carried in a hand purse or pocket, which could be used during any time of day, as the first thing in the morning, or while traveling, during breaks or even while using the toilet! Because it is all about reminding ourselves that life is as simple as the tiny piece of art everyone is capable of creating.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Its a versatile idea targeting people of all age groups, right from the age when kids are capable of holding a pencil. The stress is highly seen with school and teenage kids, the adolescents, high school pressure etc working all its way till the work retirement. And after that comes the stress to kill time. Making it versatile, more themed journals from easy cartoon doodles to intricate zen mandalas, attracting different demographics and interests are planned. With amazing 1960s classic songs quoted for some themes, while not overseeing the thoughtful lines of taylor swift for another set. Making it a monthly journal with options of one-five doodle a day based on the frequency of usage. Repeated customers, who make doodling their routine, would be the ideal measure of impacting the lives of people. With more mindfulness, comes more lively days. More job satisfaction and more productivity in all aspects. Financial measures arent the criteria as we solely promote the need to step away from all routinely chores just to give some attention to our mind and soul. Direct reviews from the users and direct interaction with their needs and being open to their suggestions and expectations would be the ideal way to understand and improve the journals capabilities.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Im a part-time artist and doodling is an integral part of my artistic journey. So I planned to create a complete portfolio of doodles to target different age groups and interests. Along with testing the time it takes to complete each doodle. With fellow friends and online community, I would like to get suggestions of good music lyrics and partner with pages who are into daily motivational and positive quotes, to help with compiling quotes for different themed journals. Initially we start with targeting the high school and working people, who operate on 9am-5pm schedule and create simple and tiny doodles compilation for them. After the popularity, the journal can diversity targeting people of all age groups and requests, right from tiny journals to large guided doodles and painting prompts for more artistic people. With a good platform to launch and promote, I would like to attract investors for the initial production of journals, after the good reach and repeated consumer base, I can re-invest the income earned to develop and expand the idea. Promotions should be made on online platforms even though it is ironical to the core business mission. But it is all about creating awareness of the need to note our mental stress and the need to slow it down for sometime.
Im a 20 year old self-taught chartered accountant affiliate, while being a full-time Entrepreneurship and fashion design student in the third year of college. I have always been a self-motivated person, right from school I used to find my own ways of learning rather than depending on the faculties, thats how I was able to do chartered accountancy qualification completely through self-study without undergoing any formal training. And so I have always wanted to start my own entity, which I feel would be the best way to perform my best rather than working for someone else. Through this opportunity, I wanted to create the awareness of mental stress and promote handmade art being it in any form to hold more value than the automated digital artworks. With concentration automatically directed towards the making a doodle, there is little room for distraction as your hand and mind constantly think about making the doodle look prettier. So rather than pushing ourselves to slow down, the process will sub consciously de-stresses our mind without a need to directly compel ourselves to de-stress. I have had a very difficult time preparing for chartered accountancy exams and keeping up with college and social life, which without surprise made me prone to many health ailments due to increased stress. And starting up my art journey has been a boon ever since and I never skipped a day without doodling or painting. And thats the story I wanted to share with the world. Need not be an artist to doodle some basic shapes combinations and coloring them, but you never know what that practice will bring you until you start practicing daily!
