Establishing Statistical Consulting Services to enhance effective Research in Nigeria Universities
Explain your idea in details:
Data and analytics is all about bringing client challenges to life so we can overcome them by taking data, whether structured or unstructured and turning it into usable information and insights. All the sophisticated data and analytics in the world won't matter if it can't be consumed by an end user or decision maker, hence the need for statistical consulting services. As a statistician and a data scientist, equipped with data and analytics skills, I employ my knowledge of statistical using statistical software such as, R, SAS, SPSS, EXCEL AND PYTHON in analyzing, presenting and interpreting clients data to make informed decisions. Statistics is the science of collecting, analyzing and making inference from data. Statistics is a particularly useful branch of mathematics that is not only studied theoretically by advanced mathematicians but one that is used by researchers in many fields to organize, analyze, and summarize data. Statistical methods and analyses are often used to communicate research findings and to support hypotheses and give credibility to research methodology and conclusions. It is important for researchers and also consumers of research to understand statistics so that they can be informed, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of information, and make appropriate decisions. Some of the major purposes of statistics are to help us understand and describe phenomena in our world and to help us draw reliable conclusions about those phenomena. The innovative of my idea can been seen in agriculture; In the recent past, farmers typically use their experience and the weather to decide when to plant seeds, when to irrigate them, and when to harvest them. But now thanks to advance analytics, they can log into a system and analyze the best time to plant their seeds to obtain the best yield.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Given that The Sustainable Development Goals aim at tackling complex multi-dimensional challenges faced by humankind and set the international agenda for 2030. The need for statistical research cannot be ruled out as it provides the basic tools and steps for reliable and quality findings (information compass). Statistical approaches provides the basic directions in making actionable insight and in transforming available data into useful information to make informed decissions. Small Data connects people with relevant and actionable insights from data through adopting an approach of analyzing data at the same unit at which it is sampled (Best, 2015). Monitoring is a continuous process that requires data which is generated to assist in establishing whether planned target are likely o be achieved or not, this is another area where statistics plays an important role. In monitoring and evaluation. In sustainable development goal 16, Statistics play a vital role; we believe that corruption in government procurement happens when there is no information about procurement tenders so we need to monitor data about the percentage of publicly available procurement tenders. The same can be said about monitoring advances on peace and safety, by using government figures on violent deaths for example. Surveys (experiential, factual, opinion): these would capture and collate the experiences and perceptions of citizens of key issues related to governance, justice and peace. For example, there would be a survey asking if people had paid a bribe to access a government service or whether people feel safe. Expert assessments of relevant regulations and performance by organizations like Global Integrity, International Budget Partnership, or Transparency International. Looking at a different types of indicators to capture a full story of progress, especially on the complex issues related to peace, governance and justice in Goal 16 statistics and statistical know how is a needful field.
