CONSERVATION AND SOCIAL AWARENESS
Explain your idea in details:
Conservation edge is a program with a different approach on how we can reach a certain destination this being the world required forest cover. Climate action being our passion and also the core value of conservation edge we tend to spearhead a program that will fast track this process to reach a certain target and may be surpass the required target that the government and world environmental organizations require. We tend to use government institution with examples of schools where in Kenya we have a number of about primary school of about 27489 schools and secondary schools of about 7308 schools, also the local communities involvement to make it easier for the whole general public understand our concept.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
In terms of activities conservation edge plans to plant seedlings in different parts of the country and issues them out for free to the locals and schools to plant with a research of best trees to grow in different parts of the country ,the project flag ship is to pick a few members of the public and schools and ran the project and show the whole population around the economic and conservation side of tree planting and benefits. By engaging willing local members of the public and schools we shall be able to show examples to the rest of the communities and make it an interesting venture while the whole public can engage us and work with us. This is by planting trees that have short yearling time in examples of fruits to make sure that the public sees the benefits and in commercial part of planting trees, we shall use trees that also grow faster and which can be harvested quicker and those that can have more than one use too. In Kenya as per UNICEF organization schools numbers are around 27489 thousand schools in primary level and secondary schools is around 7308 schools with both having a large number of students , with involvement of the government means they can recommend schools to use as pilot test before we venture to the whole community and public, thus these numbers are impressive and can help reach a bigger margin of the required forest cover in the country and much faster.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Conservation edge plan to implement this project in three stages, Stage one is where we request for members of the public and schools or even approach them and engage on benefits of the government and educate the public on the financial gains from this activity as we provide them with seedlings and also do follow ups on the work, stage two is involving the whole country on the successes of the pilot test members who we mentored to show progress both financially and climatic changes in the specified place that have occurred within a given period of time , stage three is creating an application to be rolled out on free education program the government ran and make it a requirement for kids in schools to learn and practice what they learn and make it interesting to the young kids to understand conservation and also information to the public on the best way to conserve environment as the members become financially stable out of the process, to schools roll out a curriculum that will teach kids from tender age on benefits of conservation.
