Indigenous Poultry Meat Processing
Explain your idea in details:
Indigenous Poultry Meat Processing is an idea borne out of dire need to support use of homemade products, discourage importation and to enable easy access to fresh poultry meat. My idea involves the processing of fresh poultry meat without chemical preservative. Researches reveal that certain health issues in Nigeria occur as a result of consumption of imported frozen poultry meats which are usually preserved with toxic chemicals. My idea will provide healthy and non-chemicalized fresh poultry meat to consumers. Also, my idea seeks to address the major problem of inaccessibility of processed fresh poultry meats. Therefore, we are creating an online platform whereby customers from any part of Nigeria can place their orders with ease and convenience. Once orders are placed, we deliver promptly at customers preferred location. Our processing activity will involve scalding, defeathering, butchering, sizing, packaging and sales. We will be operating a Processed As Ordered (PAO) system. This is an initiative within the idea to help deliver fresh and hygienic poultry meat to customers as soon as they order. The PAO system will enable consumers to obtain their ordered poultry meat products fresh and hygienic. The PAO system will also avail customers the opportunity to decide on how the processing should be carried out.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My idea will impact on Sustainable Development Goals- GOAL 2: ZERO HUNGER, GOAL 3: GOOD HEALTH and GOAL 8: DECENT WORK and ECONOMIC GROWTH. The expected impacts which my idea targets to achieve on the above SDGs are as follows: 1. Constant availability of fresh poultry meat. This will help to keep the constant supply of fresh poultry meat. 2. Ease of accessibility of fresh poultry meat products. This will enable customers to easily access fresh poultry meats without stress and the rigors of searching. 3. Availability and consumption of proteinous and nutritious poultry meat products in homes. With this idea, mothers have found a healthier and nutritious alternative for the family. 4. Consumption of hygienically processed poultry meat in order to achieve healthy living. 5. Discouraging the use of chemical preservatives which are harmful to the body. This will lead to a healthy well-being. It will drastically and substantially reduce the health issues encountered from consumption of frozen poultry meat usually preserved with chemicals. 6. It will promote and provide employment opportunities to the teeming unemployed youths. 7. This idea will surely help to boost economic growth and augment for the 70% of poultry meat consumption/supply neglected in Nigeria in the past.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
In order to implement my idea and make it sustainable, the following business models and sustainability strategies will be adopted: 1. Direct selling to consumers in our physical market. 2. Setting up sales/distribution outlets for sales of my products. 3. Processing contracts from poultry farmers/organizations 4. Online adverts/sales/auctions over the internet 5. Starting up an eatery for sales of fried and grilled. Our financing sources will involve revenue from sales of products, grants, savings, buying of shares and partnering with organizations.
