Removing Organic and Inorganic Compounds from Wastewater using Omani Clay Deposits
Explain your idea in details:
I come from a country in which the desert constitutes a major part of the territory. I just wonder if you have ever been to a desert? Have you ever felt you were dying for a drop of water? This is how a huge part of the world population feels. Due to existence of the harmful and dangerous materials such as organic compounds and heavy metals in the water, it may destroy thousands of peoples lives if it is not appropriately treated. Though, water is a liquid and transparent substance in nature, the lack of access to safe water can become a solid wall of failure. It is a problem that around 2 billion people are facing nowadays. There is a rich geology place in my home country, Oman, where can help the world deal with the problem of water pollution using clay deposits. When we place a piece of this clay into the contaminated water; as soon as they come in contact with each other, the contaminated water diffuses into the inner structure of the clay and due to its strong adsorption capability, the concentration level of the contaminants will decrease. What is more, the process is entirely environmental friendly.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
We have a simple solution to a huge humanitarian problem to save millions of human lives and start breaking the solid wall which the modern problem with water pollution is. The entire process is simple, inexpensive and environmental friendly which can lead to improve the economic.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Our plan involves four phases. Phase 1 will involve characterization of the clay properties. Phase 2 will be an advanced analysis of contaminants removal from wastewater. Phase 3 will include recovery of the used clay and in the last phase, phase 4, we will approach potential investors to sell our idea/methodology.
