Pargadongan: Change to Realize Food Sovereignty
Explain your idea in details:
Family-based agriculture is known as the home garden system. Through the garden home system (pargadongan) although on a narrow land, farmers can cultivate a variety of crops commonly consumed by families such as vegetables, chilies, and so on where the fertilizer is obtained from small-scale cattle sufficient for the plant. Pargadongan advocates that peasants return to harmonious agriculture, no other way the agricultural system should change to realize food sovereignty. The farmers should be back to the ancestral farming system which turned out to be very good, wise and effective technology. Farmers diversify the plant or known as intercropping (various) planting, as well as crop rotation, and use of protective plants. It relies on renewable resources in locally managed farming systems, also recycling wastes from plants and animals to restore nutrients to the land so as to minimize the use of non-renewable resources.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Economic impact: Increased land ownership of farmers: Farmers are more independent because they have their own capital of fertilizer, seedlings and so on. The gap will be bridged by independence and optimizing existing resources. It does not depend on agrochemicals. Cultural Impact: Enhancing the sense of mutual cooperation (Marsiadapari). Improving local wisdom. Reviving local culture. Political Impact; Export increases. Not depend on foreign country. Ecological impact: The ecosystem is getting better. Go Green and Go Organic. The land is getting green and beautiful. Increasing local seed production.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Its implementation involves all villagers. By socializing and growing mutual cooperation (called masiadapari especially in Batak land). Creating an alternative market. The market in question is to attempt to do mini-aligned agricultural education to the consumer (urban community) directly, by building a fair-price agreement. Make farmers' cooperatives more organized, and involve vocational high schools (vocational education).
