Summary of your idea

Tanzania is one among the less developed countries in the world. In 2011 an estimated 1.6 millions of Tanzanian were living with HIV/AIDS, with 1.3 millions were aged 15 or older. HIV/AIDS have resulted to 1.3 millions orphaned children in Tanzania. This idea aims to improve community health, mostly to people living with HIV/AIDS. Probiotics are microorganisms that some have claimed provide health benefits when consumed. The term probiotics is currently used to name ingested microorganisms associated with beneficial effects to humans and animals. The objectives of this idea is to assist in the establishment and sustainability of probiotic yoghurt community health projects. To assist HIV/AIDS victims with free yoghurt since majority of Tanzania community are unable to sustain medical expenses. To link and partner with groups, networks, and individuals to share experiences on community development, probiotic yoghurt production, business promotion, marketing, trade, success, environmental sustainability and other related issues.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

The expected impacts of the idea are; to have a community that is free from diseases and extreme poverty. Since this idea will be improving the community health but mostly with people living with HIV/AIDS. We are emphasizing to HIV/AIDS victims because they are our direct beneficiaries. Our activities are also going to involve fighting against spread of HIV/AIDS so as to reduce the wide spread of the disease. We have target women and youth to participate in ensuring the idea is a successful one. This is because these two groups in the Tanzanian Community lacks opportunity to economic activities. This activity will result to economic empowerment of youth and women. The beneficiaries of this idea will be strong and health, and that will make them to spend most of times in economic activities, hence improves their lives as well as the general economy. So our beneficiaries are the entire community regardless of being women or HIV/AIDS victims, but anyone in the community will get access to the probiotic yoghurt, thou we have put an emphasis to women and youth in operations and production as the way to motivate them in economic activities.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

The actual plan to implement this idea, firstly is establish a network where by youth will be mobilized to produce probitic yoghurt. Getting milk is not hard in Mwanza since the region consist of many livestock. The mobilization of youth and women will be conducted by providing education and training that will be conducted by me and my team members. We have an ability to work with NGOs that are willing to support the campaign, but we will be the main participants in achieving this goal. Also finding fund for free yoghurt for HIV/AIDS is a hard things but we will look any possible way to find the fund. But our main strategy now is to sell yoghurt as much as we can, and from each package sold we will take 10% of the profit so as to offer HIV/AIDS victims with free yoghurt. With our experience in working with the community and probiotic yoghurt production, we are confident that we will utilize our hard working for the sake of our community. There is nothing valuable as commitment and emotions to your work, and that is the quality that makes us to be confident that we can bring some changes in our community. The community will get plenty of benefits from the idea, and we are going to work with them perpendicular since they are our main stakeholders in this idea.

Your profile

Mazigo, David and Steven are all university students from Saint Augustine University of Tanzania. We are all 24 years of age, and we are very motivated young Tanzanian. We came across one probiotic yoghurt where by one of our member Mr. Mazigo used to volunteer in an NGO known as African Probiotic Yoghurt Network (APYN). The project was dealing with probiotic yoghurt but it was not a successful one despite its potentialities in the community. The community enjoyed the project but the scenario for implementing the project was not clear. We were moved by this experience and that is why we have a good idea with potential and strategies that will help the community. We believe we can achieve this goal since we are all motivated, and we are ready to work for our respective community. We will find different angles to implement this project and we know we can.
