WaterPurifier is a partnership enterprise that provides eco-friendly Solar Water Pasteurizer - to purify surface water by using solar power and Rainwater Collector to collect clean rain water to ensure safe drinking water throughout the year. It collects raw materials such as Plastic Foam, Black cloth, Polypropylene bag, PVC sheet and other elements from the local suppliers. Then, it processes the raw materials to get final product. WaterPurifier serves as safe drinking water facilitator, helps to purify water; costs only $6 per family consisting of 5 members per year ; contributes to have easy access of safe drinking water. It aims to supply sustainable Solar Water Pasteurizer and Rainwater Collector to the nearly 32 million safe water insecure people of Bangladesh at low cost. Furthermore, it focuses on women empowerment through employing deprived poor women in production and sales agent. Hence, we have developed unique business model called women Partnership where women share profit based on sales. WaterPurifiers target market lies in the rural regions of Bangladesh. WaterPurifier will use two-branched distribution channels- 1st channel: through Women partnership and 2nd channel: through Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), specifically Grameen Bank and BRAC to supply product to target market. WaterPurifier is committed to achieving four Millennium Development Goals, 1) Combating Poverty & Hunger, 2) Child mortality rate 2) Gender Equality and 3) Environmental Sustainability By creating and offering an affordable, unique solar water pasteurizer and rainwater collector that will aid over 32 million safe drinking water-insecure people.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The arsenic affected rural poor people and other people who have lacking access to safe drinking water of Bangladesh are our main customer except high saline water areas. The total target market is 32 million people/ 6.4 million families or amount around US $38.4 million (6.4 million*$6). WaterPurifier will cover 5.66% of total or 1.81 million people/.362 million family and market share will be amount US$2.169 million(.362 million*$6) within 3 years. The implementation of WaterPurifier has the following impact on sustainable development Income increase for 87 employees from 0 to $600/woman yearly Reduction of medical expenditure $96,400 for 12,050 families yearly Reduction of purification expense $90,375 yearly Multiplier effect of employment for 99 employees $71,408 yearly Improvement of supplier business with expansion WaterPurifier business
Plans for implementation and sustainability
WaterPurifier provides solar water pasteurizer to purify the surface water into safe drinking water through utilizing solar energy and Rainwater Collector to collect rain water during the rainy season. The raw materials such as Plastic foam, Black cloth, Polypropylene bag, PVC sheet and other elements from the local suppliers. Then, these raw materials are processed to get the final product. The finished products are distributed through women micro-dealerships under distribution channel which make solar water pasteurizer and rain water collector available to the end customers with the collaboration of Grameen Bank and Brac Total fund requirement is $164,625 that comes from the equity such as Shareholder $89,625,Inventor $15,000 and Debt $60,000. WaterPurifier makes collaboration with Department of Biomedical Physics & Technology University of Dhaka, Non-Government organization such as Grameen Bank and Brac.
