Summary of your idea

My idea intends to introduce youth and women from marginalized groups like my community, to our organizations "Interactive Microfinance Programme", this entails business coaching and mentorship, give them interest free loans to help them establish their personal or group poultry ventures. As a social entrepreneur, I will establish a chicken and cake/bread store and this will serve as the market for their products. Within the chicken store, I will create a social hub where young people come together and exploit their IT skills and many are trained as well, the youth will also form my staff at the store thus creating employment.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

The money repaid will be given to another group of participants and this will carry on in a cycle to ensure every needy person in this community of Kuria is established economically thus making my venture sustainable. These will ensure that many young people are not engaged in crime, cattle rustling, prostitution, teenage pregnancies/school dropouts amongst school going girls and even conflict as it has been seen since history amongst the four clans in Kuria tribe in Kenya. Being that my venture will employ the youth participating in my project, I will be solving youth unemployment that is seen to be a global challenge to sustainable development. The women also, who are mostly widows will have an avenue of generating income to feed their families and provide for other needs. This will also reduce instances of violence against women due to high rates of poverty witnessed in our community.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

Speaking of establishing a chicken, bread and cake store; will be my business part of my project, I will have them sale to my store their eggs and chicken from their farms, meaning I will use the eggs to bake cake and bread for sale, I will also have the chicken fried for sale, others will be supplied to schools, banks, and hotels in big towns outside my community, all these will earn me profit to ensure I pay my staff responsible with production to marketing thus ensuring sustainability. Through my organization that partners with other NGOs and donors I will finance my interest free loans programme.
