EyE+ : Let's see the world, smarter

Summary of your idea

There are a lot of interesting things about the world around us that we would like to know but we hardly get the chance to read about them in books, internet, etc. What if we could see this information tagged on interesting places around us and we could see them by just having a look through our mobile devices / smartglasses? Smartglasses are one of the emerging technologies and in near future great amount of people will see the world through these glasses. This gives us the opportunity to add information to our environment with virtual tags using applications on the smartglasses. For instance, Julia, a tourist in Athens, is interested in historical places. With our application, she will see the city from the historical perspective with tags about the historical places while Leon, who is an architect, will see another set of tags about the architecture of the city. This can be extended to cover the advertisements, as well. At the moment, it is possible to have targeted advertisements but only in some websites (e.g. Yahoo); however our application forwards the Ads to the interested users while they are in the real world environment (e.g. Shopping area). We believe that our idea creates positive changes with: Enhancing the education: because the information we provide for the users will help them to acquire knowledge about what interests them. Supporting the environment: as the virtual tags and Ads will replace the current large billboards and printed banners, etc. Therefore, the printed labels (Ads, building titles, etc) will not affect the architecture of our environments and we can help the cities to go green. All in all, our mission will be to let you see the world, smarter.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

First of all, we will develop the core engine that serves as the base layer of our future applications. Second phase is to build a mobile application which is able to show transparent tags on the places based on their GPS locations. The application will search through the core engine to find information relevant to that place or object. This information will be provided into different levels of details. The third phase will be to extend the mobile application to provide more specific information based on the interests of the users including the advertisements. For instance, only the artist users will know about the art related events going around them, etc. Finally, in the fourth phase, we will start with developing an application on smartglasses with the same features as the ones on the mobile devices. The difference will be in the user interface and the way users interact with the application. Application Stores (e.g. Google Play) reflect to which extend the applications are favored with the reports about the rates and/or number of downloads, comments, etc. Therefore, we will measure the success of our releases with the feedback that we get from the customers in application stores.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

The authors shipped several products to mobile market based on outsourcing the development to the countries in which high talented developers do not have the opportunity to work on great companies. After development phase, the channels to provide the product to the customers will be the existing mobile application stores such as Google Play, Appstore, etc. Momentarily, the idea is on the progress of building the business plan with the support of transferring technology and science center (UniConsult) of Paderborn University in Germany. Then, the business plan will be submitted to several financing sources. This type of supports will help us to start developing the core engine and the initial version of the application and providing it for free in the mobile application markets. The revenue stream will start with the later products. Second application will be provided into free and premium versions. We expect that the number of users grows enough that we could consider the smart advertising strategy to be our final type of business model. This way, the final application on smartglasses will be for free.

Hi Esben,

Thanks for your comment and support.

What we presented so far as a proposal in this competition is exactly what you mentioned, a head-up display for location based wiki. However, there are a lot more about this idea that we didn't write about because this website is open to public. The idea goes beyond this when it comes to social networking.
We certainly believe, with or without us, this is how the future will look like. I hope that with our passion, we would be those lucky engineers who get the chance to realize this dream.

Best regards,
Mohammad
