Summary of your idea

India is a land of religion and culture, from these were born the seeds of creativity- the handicrafts. Indian handicrafts are world famous and are heavily sought after, places in India such as Kashmir, Rajasthan, Himachal etc. are famous for specific items. These items are bought at cheap prices from the creators and sold at very high prices both in the national and international market. We at i-3 crafts want to bridge this gap, we want to work for the upliftment of these poor but talented craftsmen before it is too late. i-3 crafts wants to utilize the advancement in e-commerce technology to take India-the actual India to the world. It is high time to realize that starting NGO's and social clubs will not be enough to empower a country but the proper utilization of it's people will.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

Indian Handicrafts are natural in nature and do-not utilize artificial fabric or chemicals whatsoever. They do-not withstand in the market due to their high prices which can be brought down by the utilization of modern e-commerce facilities and technology. This idea will not only empower the poor but will also generate wealth for the country.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

Personal contacts of the company with the crafts-men will be made. An e-commerce website will be started with the list of products from each state. the products will all be authentic and will be made at the place of origin. These products will be brought to godowns located in the capitals of states working from. As we get a buyer the same will be mailed to the godown which will ship the item immediately. Money to the craftsmen will always be payed in advance so that marketing and publicity will totally be taken care by us.

Your profile

I am Nishit Sangomla a student of the Chemical Engineering Department NIT Trichy, India. I am very much interested in the field of energy and environment and have been involved in projects and activities related to the same. The past year I had visited Kashmir as part of my family vacation which is famous for leather and woolen products, Seeing the cost difference between what was sold by the craftsman and the shop inspired me to start and design this system which will be fair both for the buyer and seller and will eliminate the problem of middlemen.
