Summary of your idea
The main objective is to create a café (chain in future) were people can enjoy meals and can be sure that this will not make them to put on weight. Concept: Only food with low glycemic index will be used in this café. Diets based on the glycemic index suggest that you eat foods and beverages with low glycemic index rankings to help you keep your blood sugar balanced. This helps to lose weight and reduces risk factors for many chronic diseases. Secondly, only healthy cooking methods will be used there: steaming, stewing, grilling, and broiling. No fried food or overbarbecuing. Thirdly, there will be no secret ingredients and secret calories. Customers will be able to see the accurate information about their dish or beverage (calories, fat, salt, sugar) in menu. Potential clients: people who care about their health or those who can not afford eating fast food due to their health conditions. (For example diabetics.) Innovative approaches: There are no eating places of this kind neither in Belarus nor around the world. However there is a high demand for such places. Various market research reports show that fitness industry just in Belarus has grown significantly over the last 5 years and it is expected to grow. Dietary foods are very popular among Belarusians as well. People care more about their health than it was a generation ago. They are looking for healthier choices and willing to pay for it. Since no other restaurant has this concept this leaves us with a window of opportunity and niche in the market.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
High blood sugar levels are linked to a variety of health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and heart disease. Following a diet based on the glycemic index will result in weight loss and prevention of chronic diseases. In its turn this will contribute to economic growth of the country. That is because development is a consequence of good health. And state will have to spend less on public health. More so it will make life easier for lots of people. At the moment those who prefer to go for health choices almost do not have such opportunity when it comes to socializing outside. Every time they eat outside with their friends they can not be sure about the content of their plate or the way food was prepared. Many ill people are simple «locked» in their kitchen because food sold outside is not suitable for them. Our café will be the right place for all of them.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The café is meant to be for all: families and singles, young and old, male or female. It will be the perfect place to stop in for a bite to eat, for a drink or for a meeting with friends. The recipe for success: the one-and-only healthy café plus with cheap prices. The business model will work on high volume. Prices will be cheaper in comparison with other upscale restaurants due to the fact that low glycemic index products are relatively cheap. Besides, seasonality and locality of food will be taken into account. Location: in the booming, and rapidly expanding area with lots of fitness centers Advertisement: publications in mass media; through word of mouth. The café will start out as a worker-owned cooperative that would be democratically governed by their employees. As members of the team, everyone will work with one goal in mind - to keep the customers happy. Number of employees: 10 including dieting expert who will keep menus safe and will provide staff training. Collaborators: Ministry of health, international health organizations, medical associations. Funding - this business plan is going to cost 35 000 USD. Plan is to achieve 12% return on investment for the first two years and 15% for the next three years.
I have graduated the faculty of journalism in Belarus and used to work as a freelance journalist. I will use my knowledge, skills and contacts to provide the best possible PR strategy for that café. Being a student I worked as a hostess and waitress in restaurants (USA; UK). So, I know from experience hidden rocks of that business and how to deal with customers. For the last 4 years I have been working as a sales assistance for two international companies which also provided me with a good education in terms of business. I have followed low Glycemic Index Diet for more than a year already and I feel myself fantastic! I want other people to become healthier simply by changing their food preferences. I hope my idea will be realized and I have no doubts this café would be popular with local people as well as foreigners. Success of «Slim café» will lead to creation of similar cafes abroad.
